this has been happening since a few years, i feel sleepy when i am at office or after lunch, but many a times i lay awake at night and get some only during early hours of the morning but by that time i have to get up and start geting ready for my day as well as send my children to school, it is a tough situation, i often feel the climate is the culprit, but is it only the climate, may be it is in my mind, my doctor says u have to cultivate a habit of getting sleep otherwise it is very difficult to sleep

Let's see here... exhausted during the day, awake at night.... Sounds like me! I can tell you right now that this is just stress. During the day your mind is dreading the slow-passing minutes, "Why am I still here?" and when you're laying bed, you have the time the time to think about your day and so you can't really sleep. "Man I should really take care of this at work," or, "Today was just too much." I can tell you one technique that I looked up a while back for stress relief. It's called EFT ((Emotional Freedom Technique)). It would be better if you look it up because I may not be able to explain it fully. It's basically acupuncture without the needles. You tap certain points of your body like your cheeks while repeating a phrase pertaining to your situation. It sounds bogus but it works wonders for me. Bath and Body works also has this pillow mist... It's amazing! It's milk and something else. I always pass out almost immediately, no matter how my day has gone. Good luck :)

Well well well, i use to have the same problem, so i cut on stuff like caffein, garlic, onion, pepper. Cutting on those items help to relax the mind, if you are a vegetarian makes it better, when the mind is relax you can have full control over it, then u can relax at anytime you choose to, be it day or night. this really works. so other things that helps is simple yoga practice. try it out and good luck if it helps on you.

Really? Cut out all the spices? Huh.... I didn't know about all that. Fascinating. I don't agree with the vegetarian part though. I was vegetarian for a full out year and it didn't really change anything. Though I'm not saying I'm having trouble getting sleep all the time, just that when I do, I know what works. I don't think vegetarian works ((sorry)) but I haven't tried the cutting down on pepper... Interesting...

Hello, Pricess knightrider let me tell you : I got the same indications when I was a student, now I am already 55 years of age and retired. Fortunately I got a very good doctor which directly recomended me to visit any psychiatrist where I got a lot of experiences, this pshychiatrist practice at mental health unit of hospital and asked me to visit him to his place to practice/hospital unit. There I have much occasion talking to some patients, some of them was panic dicease or may be schizoprenic, that he run amok / get very angry and destroy anything near him. I also talked to a very handsome young man, look very nice and as if nothing bad to him, he told that he already months in this unit because of depression. He told that the first indication was that he can not sleep several days respectively, and later feel frighten very much for irational reasons, he is indeed a good man frightened by little SIN in his mind !!! please dont be late, you can first take tranquilizer such as diazepam 5mg or Valium 5mg, it is cheap, only $0.5 for 10 pils, ok ! You would be better NOT postphone to visit your doctor... good luck.

i used to have a similar problem ages ago i used to have a busy day physically and i would feel tired. But when i tried to sleep i couldnt i used to lie in bed thinking of stuff with things going through my head, then once i got my self tired out physically and mentally i found i was able to sleep again. So it could be that you cant sleep as your worrying or stressing and have too much stuff going on in your head as it seems like its the only time you have to yourself to reflect on things. If you can try to clear your head or get it organised before you go to bed then you should be able to sleep.

I have same problem with you. Always feel sleepy in day, but night is coming , energetic is coming aslo. though, I hope to sleep early, when on bed, all kinds of thinking will swarm into my mind, so as to dream with them. Depending on coffee or tea helps to pull through day work, i know, constantly drinking coffe or tea is no good for my health, but what can i do ?

If holding for long time, this habit may influence your normal life seriously. When you feel asleep on day, you should force yourself aweek, to adjust your biologic clock. Obeying above word for 3 days at least, you will get a perfect sleep at night. We all are the children of nature and we had better not break the exist rule. Wish you a good health.

I have had insomnia problems for years.I'll tell you what helps a lot. Before you go to sleep. Not to bed but to sleep drink "Sleepytime Tea"Take it to the bed with you.Drink it,then lay down.It will not be very effective if you drink it,then get dressed(or un dressed for bed). All that moving around will wake your body up.Keep the attitude in your mind that it will work also.Attitude is a lot do do with everything. The tea is better then pills.I do not take pills unless they are very necessary. The pills can mess your liver up.I know from my husbands medical conditions.

I think you can do some sports before you go to bed. Then you will feel tired and can have a good sleep.

Awww...you really should set the time, when you will go to sleep or not. Maybe it is helpful if you do something in the morning to divert your attention from being too sleepy then relax in the evening. It would be best to consult a doctor too, if there are any medications that you need to help you fall asleep. It is best that you rest at night, it is the most ideal time within the 24 hour day.

You should try either making yourself super tired or see a specialist. But, don't make yourself sick.

I have been having this problem too when I feel sleepy during the evening and cant sleep at night. In my country there is currently a heat wave happening in our country which is really exhausting and probably the only time where I feel energetic is at night and this probably a good explanation on my sleeping habits. What I do is sleep at 8pm and wake up at 12am and then sleep at 5am and wake up at 7am so I dont wake up too late.

Sleep is an important factor of our health. Sleep controls the amount of melatonin in blood which functions as the biological clock of our body. If you mess it up everything from digestion to circulation can go haywire. The doctor was correct. I am a medical student and I know the importance of sleeping. Yes, make it a habit- give it exact time table and you can be a very cheerful and healthy person. Regards, A.J.

Well, there may be different reasons to why you don't sleep at night. If you are used to stay awake till late everyday, then it becomes a routine for your body.In this case, you should sleep more early to get your body used to sleep early. Secondly, i have read in a book, that if your mind wanders while trying to get sleep, you won't get sleep but instead your mind stays in a subconscious state. Well, personally i have passed through, the day when i had a very bad time at work, when trying to sleep, i was thinking about all the things about what happened at work, and then my mind wandered away thinking about these things that i forgot everything and was drown in this another world, my eyes were open. And then, i realized how late it had become and i did not get sleep at all. The only remedy for this was to stop thinking about something who stresses you and disturb your sleep. Instead, think of something you like and you'll get a nice sleep.

Your doctor is surely right but there are some tricks that may help, it is not really sure they will but... why not to give them a try? Try to go to bed always at the same time: this will make the "sleeping time" a routine and your body is likely to get accustomed with that. Try not to go to sleep right after a heavy meal: digestion is a hard work, and it keeps your body busy for quite some time; this may disturb your sleeping. Have something relaxing just before you go to sleep, like a hot shower: this will ease the stress loaded durinig the day. Plus, a worm bath loose the blood pressure a bit, just like it happens in heavy sleeping: so when you get to the bed you are already in the perfect condition to sleep. Finally a old traditional sleep help: drink a cup of warm milk or tea. My grandma always had one in the evening and she slept tight in whole her life. That's it. Good luck with your sleeping!
