it is not because i look terrible in pictures but i just hate smiling or making poses. is it weird? my friends and relatives were always annoyed by me whenever it is picture taking time. i love taking pictures, but of others and not of mine.

Clearly you need a better photographer! I have a team of 5 photographers I can call on or different projects. They all have good basic technical ability (that is, I can rely on them to frame and expose the photo accurately) but they can't all manage people equally well; one is really great with kids, but adults don't respond to her in the same way; another is excellent with sports and action, where the subjects are unaware of the camera; but one is just magic with people; they relax, some forget about the camera and others just respond to his direction like they were pro models... even people like YOU! When people are in the frame, good photography becomes a question of relationship skills.

I love taking pictures of others too, but I can't stand being in them either. It is terrible because I can count on one hand how many pictures I have of me, my husband and my 5-year-old together. I feel like I look terrible in most, if not all of my pictures and will avoid the camera at any cost.

Hey, I love taking pictures. I just need a camera and bingo! Its great fun taking pics. Just not humans but i like to take pics of animals birds and various other forms of nature. I love saving them in my computer and then uploading it in my space or orkut sharing it with my friends. I mean whats wrong in it. I dont pose or some thing but u have to do creative things to enjoy life. Taking pics is great fun. Hope u will soon get over it and have fun if not yrs then taking other forms of nature. Cheers, Tutul

We have the same sentiment. I absolutely do not like getting my picture taken whether it was stolen or posed. Ill try to avoid it as much as I can but I do occasionally smile on those group shots or pictures with close friends. I know what you mean by not being bad in pictures but also not liking to be in it. I soo love taking pictures as well. Of people, places, things, almost everything. I love bringing out the beauty in everything even if it might look hideous on the outside or at first glance. I guess its just that. We love to be behind the camera, not in front of it.

So do i.Although i have no camera,i often take pictures of my friends with my own mobile phone. On the other hand,i hate picture taking just for i look worse than the reality in most time. Then, for my friends,it's so disappointing, but i believe they will forget this qiuckly.Because, when i really really don't wanna take pictures when we go for travel,i will choose buy water or something ti skip it.At last,i will cook some delicious food to brible them.

Nope not weird at all. I'm a photographer and prefer not to have my picture taken. I keep that thought in mind when taking pictures and prefer to keep my camera set on motion shots so that I don't have to make people "pose" so much. I can get natural expressions, mannerisms and let them relax more that way. I love nature photography and I implement that into my wildlife photos by not harassing the wildlife to get my shots. I don't approach if its not going to allow me to just be there and watch it. I take pictures of moose regularly...you respect them or they can trample you..and I prefer to not get trampled..its also illegal to harass wildlife here so I try to leave them in their natural state, and not spook them. One gets good at being sneaky when dealing with 1500lb creatures. I've learned over time that patience is not only a virtue but a necessity with photography and even when I photograph people I wait for the right shot to present itself to me instead of finding it by making them pose.

I think I am like you. I really don't like taking pictures. I see some people who are so addicted to taking pictures. They also don't mind putting up the pictures on social networking sites like facebook and the like. I think they are a very brave to put up their photos online.

I don't think it is weird. Really, I emphasize the "To each their own" saying on this subject. I don't quite like having pictures of myself taken, but it's because some of the pictures of myself are just HORRIBLE.

Yes, I'm the same way. I really enjoy taking photographs of others and capture moments... Everytime someone takes a picture of me I don't like how I come out. I don't think it's weird at all, maybe you will enjoy it later when you have more confidence.
