I would really like people to come to my country for a visit...way too many bad things had been written about this wonderful country. I am afraid that only a few people know the real truth about Romania, about its beauties and the warm of its inhabitants. Maybe the myLot Community, its members, would be interested in knowing a lot more about this country and maybe...to pay a visit around here. What do you say?

I too was born in Bucharest, and although I left my native country quite some time ago, my memories are still alive and pushing me to revisit over and over again.
Here's some info on the Capital I convinced one of my teachers to join me in a fortnight journey back home:
Bucharest, located midway between the Carpathian Mountains and the Black Sea, in southeastern Romania, has not earned the nickname ‘Paris of the Balkans’ by accident. Its astonishing range of architecture – from Wallachian wooden and bell-towered mansions to Byzantine-style chapels, neo-classical buildings, striking 1930s modernism and even the post-Stalinist absurdities of Ceaucescu’s megalomaniac regime – cannot help but leave the visitor in awe at the varieties of vision that have taken place in this city, over the centuries. But Bucharest has also been the epicentre of the country’s many upheavals, with the stages of the country’s history like vivid tattoos etched across the city’s surface, each telling a different chapter of the story.
I even convinced some other friends to go visit it after talking in so high terms about it. But the reality is somewhat in the middle between the Little Paris, luminous European Metropolis, and the filth, pollution, poverty the communist years and post-communist years brought upon it.
At present, however, the almost total lack of tourism infrastructure or facilities can be frustrating. There is no tourist office and even basic brochures in museums can be hard to find, leaving one to fend almost entirely on one’s own. Although Bucharest enjoys a temperate climate, tourists should avoid mid-summer visits, since temperatures soar, air conditioning is rare and much of the city shuts down, as students return home and locals head for the coast.
It's worth a shot, though.
And it's only improving.

I have always wanted to travel to Romania. My father's family immigrated to there from Germany rather than being persecuted. My grandparents came directly from Romania to the US. I know that I still have many relatives there. I have seen pictures of the rich countryside. Everything I have seen or heard about has been good. There is "bad" history about every country. Frankly I find Romania and it's history facinating.

My friends boyfriend is living here in Ireland but from Romania. He hasnt been home in ten years and is looking forward to his first trip home in Jan 07. He speaks of his country with great pride but also great sadness. He says it is beautifull but it is hard to make a living there.

I would consider visiting romania if I wouldn't already live here. But because I do, it seems to me that I'm looking for a way to get out of this country. A comparrison between Romania and other countries is rather rethorical seeming the fact that we all know our daily living conditions and strongly disaprove them. Romania seems a worthwhile country tio visit just for a vacation, but it's an unhealthy environment on long term :)

dear thank you for this discussion. I don't know much about Romania but I have read some articles about it. There was nothing negative about Romania there and I do want to visit there once. I know some professors there who are from India. I have also read that there is a good center for Culture of Rabindranath Tagore. In Shantiniketan I have had some Romanian friends in my college days unfortunately they are not now in touch with me (then I didn't know Internet). I hope you will be a good and authentic source of the information about Romania. Thank you once again for this loving topic please continue it.

Well, I think you have to cross the ocean. Meaning the money, I think it will be rather expensive, but its worth it. Maybe, some day, you will be able to come and visit my country and me...
