i find it very amazing seeing people who use chopsticks to pick up foods. it's as easy as picking up by fingers for most chinese and japanese people but for me i find it very troublesome. whenever my husband brings me to japanese foods (because those are his favorites), i felt pity for myself. every time i turn around, i see everybody enjoying their meals in their chopsticks. i don't have no choice but to use the conventional spoon and fork. In fact, i have chopsticks at home. my hubby taught me how to use it my fingers wouldn't really move. i wouldn't let myself suffer from hunger just because of that.how about you?

Yes I know how and I enjoy using it. It's easy when you've got the hang of it. Try using it when you are really, really, really hungry. Then you will learn naturally. Just relax and don't stifen your fingers.

No, I probably yet don't know how to use chopsticks as the place where I live don't have the chopsticks in the restaurants. But I have seen it eating in the T.V. and would love to have that experience one day!!

i was taught to use chopsticks at about 5-6 years old, my parents used to go to a place in nyc regularly to eat so i was taught at that age.now i buy x-tra long one's and use them to stir food in a frying pan as not to scratch the pan's. and, at 35 i met a chinese woman and were together 14 years so it came in handy, who knew.

Hey Hey
When I was a kid my family would always go to this one chinese resturant called the lotus garden and we never used chop sticks , and they would bring us out the forks ya know . Then one time we were there we all tried to use the sticks and it was near impossible for us kids and well my parents as well
My dad went thru a phase where he used chop sticks with everything he ate and got the hang of it . You get to enjoy your food more , because it takes more time I suppose . It was good for his diet , and kinda cool . When I am out and have the chance I will for sure use the chops !

Yes I know how to use them. I love to eat at Chinese and Japanese restaurants. And because of that I really need to learn how to use those chopsticks before I also can't eat using them. My foods always fall and my friends always make fun at me that's the time I started to learn how to use chopsticks and after I learn how to use them I treat my friends to our favorite Chinese restaurant and show them how I learned to use chopstick. Since then I started to enjoy eating Chinese and Japanese foods more using chopsticks.

Practice makes perfect! Keep practicing with the ones you have at home. It is just like learning how to use another utensil. I bet the first time you picked up a fork as a child, you didn't know the proper way to hold it, did you? That took time and practice.
I was horrible with chopsticks at first, but I kept asking for them every time we went to a Japanese or Chinese place, and struggled through. I have been doing that for so long, I haven't even thought about how adept I've become at using them. I go for sushi once every few months, and I never get a fork and knife. I can even eat rice with chopsticks now!
Just keep working on it, you'll get the hang of it eventually. :)

Me, I know how to use it, I just learned. I have a chinese boss way back and he treated the staff to a chinese restaurant and I just observed him on how to use chopstick and I learned to use it. I bring the chopstick at home and tried using it with our meal, I hardly can't use it on rice.

I don't know how to use chop sticks.I see here in India chinese food is served in five star hotels in chopsticks. Some people learn eating with chop sticks fast. Some manage to eat the chinese with a fork and spoon.I am used to eating food with a fork and spoon but it someone taught me how to eat with chopsticks i will readily learn as it is nice to have a unique style of eating.

my husband insist of using chopsticks at home. they grew up using that though they're not chinese.their parents, i mean my in laws worked with chinese boss so i guess that's the reason why they are using that.it's nice to try something different too.it's just that my fingers won't really move in chopsticks.

I do, anytime I eat Chinese food I request them. I think it goes along with the meal and people always look when you are eating with them. My kids are learning how to eat with them too. They think its fun.

that means im lucky in that part of eating with chopsticks because i haven't eaten with chopsticks till now.i always eat Chinese food with the help of spoon and fork, because none of my friends know to eat with chopsticks so we prefer to eat with fork and spoon. its not like we haven't given a try to chopsticks but none of us were so comfortable with those,so we opted to go with a spoon and a fork.but some day i will try to learn with those hard things and learn Chinese skills too.hehe

Yes my roommate in high school was asian and taught me how to use them because I really wanted to eat with them. I just think it is more interesting and feel like I am fully enjoying the food. I am sure if you just keep trying a little more you will be just fine. My fingers were stiff and disobedient when I first started learning as well so I know how you feel. but it is worth it.

yes you're right. i always also end up with forks before. for safety, forks and chopsticks are like scissors. you shouldn't run around with them, or you'll hurt yourselves. as of now, i get used to using both, whichever is available. chopstick has an advantage when eating noodle.
i'm getting so used to chopstick that when eating soup, rice, i still use it rather than a spoon or fork.
Research found that people who use chopsticks (China, Korea, Japan) are generally smarter than people who use folks&knives, as using chopsticks involves more fingers. However it seems that Japanese people are slightly smarter than Chinese, the reason for that is because most Japanese use metal chopsticks while the Chinese use wooden sticks. Now because metal chopsticks weight heavier, japanese people get "better" practises when they eat, thus they become smarter. THIS IS NOT A JOKE, I'M SERIOUS K? I HEARD IT FROM SOME RADIO PROGRAM.

I have a little problem with chopsticks, well OK it's a big problem; I can't use them! I went to a Japanese restaurant once and the chef came over to our table with the perfect solution for my dilemma; he had been watching me struggle for a while and when he came over he handed me a pair of chopsticks tied together with a rubber band; they worked perfectly!

My skills on chopsticks is way way way too basic. I can pick up food of larger sizes like siomai, or a cubed veggie or meat. But I can see some who can eat rice using chopsticks and I think that's so expert! hehe

it's hard to learn that when you're not used to it especially when your at age of 25 or above.. like playing guitar, when you practice at an early age, it's easier for you to learn than start learning guitar at 30 ^_^ for me i'm now skillful with guitar but when i try to practice keyboard, i find it hard to move my fingers.. i think learning chopsticks would be effective if you practice it daily like japanese and chinese do..

i find it difficult to use guitar too. i don't also follow the home casing in keyboards. i think i had a problem with my fingers dexterity. i noticed that i find it hard doing things related to the use of fingers. i don't type that fast too.

I came from a country where it is more popular to eat with your hands rather than use chopsticks. I tried using one before out of curiosity, but I always end up getting no food. I think we need a lot of practice to really be an expert in using a chopsticks.
