I'm trying to save some money to maybe buy a new Tv some day. Both of my sets are like 20 years oldbut they work great. I also like to save some money be course you never know if you need to move suddenly or have to have some kind of doctor visit. You just never know. So do you like having a little nest ache or are you saving up for something special?

First, about those "old TVs." While we do pay the expense of Comcast for the www, here in Colorado we have an TV by antenna tradition. We did the two government antenna box coupons and bought 2 boxes. Afterward I inherited a digital widescreen TV less than a year old. The older the analogue TV, the stronger the receiver. Our old TVs hooked up to converter boxes bring in a better quality digital picture than the new wide-screen digital that can also interpret analogue. Also, the converter box has captions so these old TVs can now have a caption AND a controller when I am in couch potato mode... HANG ON TO YOUR OLD TVs! In 1970 I did a season of search and rescue as a Seaman in the U.S. Coast Guard before I went into helicopters. Ever since I have dreamed of owning a sailing an ocean worthy sail boat. I have no idea how much they cost these days... For a few years I did sail a wind surfer on a neighborhood lake and learned the hands on mechanics of sailing as well as my spine being the second mast. Talk about hard work! Dreamin' of sailing into the sunset. Steve, the seaman.

Hey missy! You are such wise woman! It is always good to try to save money just in case of some sort of emergency! Lord knows I have sure had my share of them! And then I had to use all the money that I had put away and now I have nothing left! And I don't know if I will be able to save anything again. So if you can get the chance to put some money away, I certainly suggest you put all that you can because you never know when you are going to need it!

Having spare money lying about never interested me over the years, if I had money it would be spent! Nowadays though I realised I needed to have an emergency fund and so started one up last year, I also started making more of an effort to save too and so now I have 2 little nest eggs building up just in case and for special things. I only wish I had started doing it years ago.

Yeah, I am saving for a reason. We both are college teachers and whatsoever savings we have that is for our son. He is a sharp boy and surely get into the Oxford University when he would grow up. Actually I personally wanted to study in the Oxford University but somehow it did not materialize and wish to see this getting a shape in the form of our son.

Hi. I am not saving for anything right now but some day I'll be saving for a red Ferrari. But before I reach that point I have to earn a lot for other things as well.

I think you need to win the lottery or a jackpot to buy a Ferrari

I won't mind it if it comes that way, but yes, I am waiting for an opportunity to get anywhere near it, a big opportunity.

Right now my reason for savings would be to just have some security. We were in a situation recently and had very little savings to rely on. I don't want to do without in my regular routine just to save but want to be disiplined enough to put some away each week. Small steps and I know it will grow.

Right now my fiance and I are saving up for our wedding plus I am trying to pay off debt before it gets on him. I really need to keep my eye on the ball here about this one because I really need to make a lot of money, lol. Well not a lot, but then again I'd like to make more then what I have to pay the debt collectors. My fiance and I have / are trying to pick up odd jobs to do here and there. Of course after the debt gets paid off we're going to be saving the money for a vacation, and for a rainy day. It never hurts to have a little extra.

Yup sadly I think this gets overlooked sometimes, I mean the "rain day" fund. Or it gets used up and not replenished...

i am saving but actually there is no sure reason of why i'm saving. i mean am a stay at home mom so i do some online jobs because the internet connection is here so why not make it pay back somehow? my husband gives me a personal allowance and i try to save abut 10% of it because i know that one should save no matter how little the amount of money one has. also, in all of my 34 years, there are times when i wonder where all my money had gone...at least in savings i see numbers as proof of my sacrifice.

I'm saving up for maternity leave, my husband is saving up for a new TV. I think it's good to always have a little stash of money set aside for those emergencies like doctor visits and the like. You just never know when something will go wrong.

Don't I know it! Seems like as soon as you are making good progress something happens and sets you back a few steps. I have faith though. I'm just going to keep working hard and have the trust that it will pay off in the long run.

Yes, my younger brother will be entering college this June, and we all know college tuition fee is higher that we could imagine and it will increase per sem, so I have to save more money in order to provide for his tuition. My brothers needs is my priority now.

Hi there Missy Bear. I do save money, and this phenomenon only increased after i met my girlfriend, not because she or i am a cheapskate but because we have many plans together and for their accomplishment we need money. We have been to Greece together last year in the summer vacation for a 10 day trip (by bus) and 7 days at a hotel on Olympic Beach. It was my first time out of my country and i was really happy that i could do this with the person that i love. I agree that it is always good to save some money because you never know when and why you need them. When i was single, i liked saving money because i liked to treat myself from time to time with various things - like improvements for my computer, or a special kind of food.

I think you mean nest egg. I think that saving is important for the sake of saving so whenever possible money should be set aside even when there is not a special reason or goal for saving.

I am always saving. I only spend when I have to. I recently saved so much I was able to buy a new car upfront with cash. That was exciting. Now I am back to square one saving again. But with no car payments to take away this month, I will be able to save more than before. I need to save to move out and for emergencies and for whatever else I may need in eth future. I can’t live paycheck to paycheck..that scares me too much.
