Hi! As student, i raised in the public schools since elementary. When I'm in that level, the minimum students in every classroom was 60.Even today we can notice here in the Philippines that in public schools there are 60 students in high school or even in grade school. But in the private schools we can easy think that it is not crowded classroom, but hmmm. the tuition is very much expensive. I don't have any question about it, because i consider myself as students without any questioning. i don't want to involve myself in any problem specially in the schools I encountered. focus only for my studies. If i were given a chance to predict how many students in the classroom I can say that 30 students is enough for each classroom, so that classroom is conducive to learning. Every students can perform will, can acquire knowledge. Happy Mylotting!

We don't have a budget, that's what's happening. Its sad... and annoying at the same time to hear a politician saying its better that we can get education eventhough the classroom is really overcrowded. You'll hardly hear your teacher speaking coz you get distracted for the number of people who are talking at the same time. If you get a seat at back you'll hardly learn anything. I'm also from a public school way back elementary and most my classmates smell, lol, and that's because they don't have water at home. The educational issues in our country is has its roots and I'm not really sure how to resolve it but really a complete reorganization starting from baranggays to presidency. I prefer young people sitting there coz they're still untainted and idealists. The average student per class should only be around 30 so the teachers can accommodate all unanswered questions. I'm not sure if we're still lucky, or what, coz in Africa they have no classrooms, no teachers... nothing at all...

I agree with you.. not only that we're having budget issues but also our POOR leaders are taking advantage of their positions.. politics is very dirty here in Philippines and considered the most corrupt country in Asia.. No wonder that you can't see any progress.. i've been observing schools for 10 years and it's still the same..

having only 20 students in the classroom is ideal. in this quantity the teacher can really attend to their needs. with this number, no one can escape form doing things not related to school works. it would be easy for the teacher to look after them. but this is not possible in our place.

i've been a teacher of elementary school students and there is this rule in that exclusive school that the maximum per classroom should be 35. more than that and the class had to be divided. that is not to include the preschoolers which should only be 15 max in every class with two teachers in charge!

It is so nice and good if we have 25 children in the class. Its good to teach a small number of pupils rather than have it many or crowded. Learning is different if there are so many . The real problem is no exact number of classroom to be used by the students and also no extra fund to hire new teachers in school. So that is why this is happening in the country " no choice " but to let it go and happened.

60 is really a lot, i'm pretty sure a lot of the students are in need of catching up with the lessons. i would say 30 would be okay but for smaller kids, i'd say a maximum of 15 will do.

In Australia we have strict guidelines about how many students are allowed in class. I believe for primary school, the maximum is 27, and for high school, the maximum is 30. Ideally, a class of about 20 is the best in terms of being able to give your full attention to all your students, but having such a small class is very rare.

In my experience even 30 is far to big for a regular gradeschool classroom. Here in Canada the public schools classify a large class or full class at around 32. As one student in 32 i have a really limited timeto interect with the teacher and has to be really acessible either during class time or outside class time to attend to everyone. I'm curious as to how much differently the classrooms in the Phillipines operate as opposed to their Canadian counterparts. Atleast in my province a higschool will likely -and ideally- have no more than 30 students and the teacher spends about half the time lecturing and the other half guiding students through assignments while leaving plently to do for homework; this of course varies from teacher to teacher but very seldomly will a teacher lecture on for an entire class as they do in universites. An entire day will last 5 hours in which we have 4 classes with a 45 minute lunch period.

For me there was forty students minimum in every classroom. It also depends on the number of rooms we have for three standards. When i was in the ninth standard we had four rooms with divisions a,b,c and d.But in the tenth standard we just had three rooms a,b and c.Only the best students could reach tenth very easily.Yes private schools are not crowded.Happy mylotting.

In America, in my opinion, I would say an optimal classroom size would be about 20-25 students. Our classrooms are not usually big enough to hold more than 30 comfortably, and when it comes down to it, 30 is a large class for a small room and one teacher. I attended a private school until 8th grade, the average class size was probably 14-22. In public school our classes were obviously larger, I estimate probably 25-32. They still weren't huge, the only big class I remember having was a combined PE class, that one had about 45 but it was two classes. I really don't see a problem with classes being larger with say... 35 students, after about 3rd grade. I do think that for kindergarten and at least 1st grade, class sizes should stay smaller. That is when kids learn to read and comprehend, write, and do all the basics that they then build on in later years. That is the building blocks for learning, so it's pretty important to get those solidly learned. If you have 45 kids in a class and one teacher, it's probably not going to be very easy to make sure that the majority of those kids have grasped the bare minimum to promote. The sad thing is, since it's hard to measure that, way too many kids promote anyway and still cannot read well when they head to junior high...

We live in Australia and my daughter is in year two junior public school and her class has about 24 kids in it and I think that is perfectly adequate. Sixty is a huge number for one teacher! I wouldn't like to see more than 30 per class. I guess having a large number of students wouldn't be so bad if the teacher had an assistant, still it would be hard for the children to receive the individual attention that they may require.

My choice of minimum student in a public schools for a class is 25 to 30. If it is a college my choice would be 45 - 50. So that, a teacher can take care of every student...

Hate to see the fact, but what you said are all true. I personally think that if a student will be going to a public school, entering at the provinces public schools are better rather than here in manila. Classrooms are over crowded and the time alotted for their learning are like 4-5 hours only. Sometimes I couldn't stop comparing a child coming from a public school from a private school. Ideal number of students in a classroom is 30-40 students max. Through that children could learn and of course the teacher could somehow monitor the students more.

Even 30 is too many for one classroom. It makes it difficult for a teacher to give every student the attention they deserve. In the states when we have 20 or more kids in one class we consider this over crowded, especially with dealing with young children. With older students it is different, but even then it's hard for kids to get time with instructors if they need something explained to them.

Anything beyond twenty in a class room is a crowded for me.But as the population keeps increasing it is highly improbable to have that much of children alone and deny the education to the rest.Especially in the developing countries where the uneducated families and the children population is more we just cannot help the class rooms being crowded.

hello mymaria! i think the maximum number of students in a classroom should be 30 or better if its lesser like 25 or 20 so it will be very conducive for learning and the students can focus more on studying. Learning will be much easier if the surroundings is peaceful. and i think a teacher can be very effective with less students to handle. the teacher can give enough time to each of the students and she/he can give focus on each of them, identify which subject they find difficult and identify their skills and talents and hone them. of course this is the ideal scenario for a classroom. we all know that in a lot of places, this is impossible to happen because of poverty. and sometimes corruption. there are poor places who can't even afford to provide education for all the children. and there are places where government officials corrupt the money intended for education. there's also a school here in our town where in a classroom, the number of students even reach up to a hundred! i won't be surprised if most of the students won't learn anything. the government should really look on this because the children are the ones whose gonna be sorry in the future.

You are right , it has to be 30 minimun student per classroom so as the advicer will take on the needs of the students. If it is 60 per classroom, the room will be crowded and a little noise is irritable, students will make it hard to participate or even concentrate on the subjects. If the students are crowded inside the classroom it make it change their mood, I am speaking of the students because they are motivated to talk to their seatmate rather than on listening because they are crowded they will not be notice in any way.

For me, i would say minimum of 20 and maximum of 30. In that way the teacher can teach the all children specially in elementary and high school. So the teacher can assist the pupils on how to read and write properly individually and on the other projects. And also it's not so much hard work for the teacher.

wow..... you are fortunate! in some part of the Philippines they have more than 60. the biggest class that i saw is 115 in a section....... this is not a joke..... its true! i really saw it with my own 2 eyes. Just imagine a teacher handling 5 section.lets say that there are 5 absent.... she would still handle 110! and 110 X 5 is 550! my goodness!this is "hanap patay not hanap buhay" i think 40 to 50 student..... but if they can make it 30 or less much better!
