Do You Eat Balut? :-)

I started eating balut when my Korean friends dared me to eat one because I also dared them to do so. So I started acting brave enough to eat it until i found out that it was actually delicious. :) However two consecutive baluts makes me vomit and I don't know why.. How about you? Do you also eat balut? Why or why not?

I can eat up to 10 baluts in one sitting. It tastes good, the only problem affixed with eating is the possibility of getting a high blood pressure. I like my balut hot and with an enormous almost developed chick inside. Hehehe

balut is loaded with cholesterol, mike! one balut every week should be enough.
to get back to the question, i don't eat balut because it's like eating an aborted chick or something.

Hehe. Just said I can eat ten baluts, but have done that twice only. I usually get contented after two to three eggs. I really know the hazard and experienced it as well.

i'm filipino yet i have probably eaten the whole balut only once. i didn't enjoy the texture of young bones and feathers in my mouth. it was hard to swallow imaging stuff like that and i'm such a vivid person. since then, i can only enjoy the yolk part and the juice... it's really good. then i'll have one of my friends or brothers (whoever i'm with) eat the young chick for me.

i tried that before. didn't work for me because i could still visualize it. hehe
but for the most part, i really enjoy the other parts of balut. just not the young chick. :)

Hi cecillecarmela. Are you a Filipina? Anyway, it surprised me that it was your first time eating "balut" because majority of the Filipinos, young and old, are no strangers to the said delicacy (unless if you grew up abroad, which would explain it).
Anyway, I used to eat (and enjoy eating) balut but my decision to change my diet has resulted in me no longer eating it for many years already.
Balut is rich in protein but (unfortunately) it also has loads of calories, cholesterol, and uric acid, which can contribute to health concerns. But I guess, it won't hurt if you eat it sparingly.

Yes I'm a Filipina but I'm not really used to eating exotic foods. Thanks for the response :)

Hello! Oh good for you that you eat balut. Me, I do not eat balut but I eat Penoy because I do not like the "sisiw" in the balut.

The way balut is presented is a bit gross to look at but the taste is just same as eating a boiled egg with a bit of the chick's meat in it. The water inside it acts as somewhat a soup. Well I would not recommend you eating more than two since this delicacy is really high in cholesterol and if you have the problem if having high cholesterol this food is not recommended for you.

I only eat the yellow and white part... but never the chick part... even if someone dares me to... i don't think i can... everytime my husband would buy balut... the chick part will be his... i don't know why... but this is one Filipino delicacy that i wouldn't dare eat...

I do eat balut but I exclude the chick from it. I only eat the yolk (the yellow part) and munch on the white, hard part. Then, I drink that certain soup contained in it (which I heard was the urine, but not really sure about it, though). I don't like the look of that raw chick, and me thinking about eating it just makes me gag.

Yes, I love eating balut. I can eat 2 in one sitting. It's delicious. I wonder why some don't love the taste of it.

Yes as a Filipino I love eating balut. I know that some foreigners can't eat it because they find it ackward. I think it is because of the chicks inside the egg. It is delicacy for us some says it is aphrodisiac and give you strength. It is a good source of protein but high in cholesterol so if you have high blood avoid eating it. I think it is acquired taste I feel the same way if someone introduce me of delicacies of other countries.

Yes, I eat balut. I love it! :)) Actually, my sister and I dissect the chick part before we eat it, because there are bones if the egg's old enough, and sometimes the feathers don't suit my mouth. Anyway, I found out in a countdown that it is the world's most "bizarre" delicacies. I think I watched that countdown in discovery channel.
