Gyms use human power

China

A growing number of American gyms are making use of a new green technology which allows the momentum from running and walking machines to be converted into woltage. A typical 30-minute workout on one minute generates enough electricity to run a laptop for an hour, or an energy-saving light bulb for 2.5 hours. Wow, isn't this great? We can save money, energy and meanwhile buid up, what's more, it's enviromental protection. I love the idea. I wanna get this gym, when will it come to the market in China for sale?

That's the kind of gym I want to be a member of! I hope they bring it to the YMCA as well! I'd love to be able to exercise, and know that I am powering lights, etc. It'd really move me to well, KEEP MOVING! lol. I hope it comes to you in China as well. Happy Exercising!

Here's what it stands for http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/YMCA or atleast a few different views. It's basically a gym with a pool, daycare, track and sports that I believe can be played in teams / versus with different districts... Not quite sure on that.

That really is nice. Could one manufacture or I mean 'save' the energy that is made from those machines for later use? or is it direct? I mean when someone is running or walking on the machine its connected to the house/place's electrical system that gives the whole house some extra energy that they wont need to use a lot of it..? Maybe even turn the electricity off on a section of the house and power it with the energy transformed from human efforts? Well, I do hope those inquiries made sense. Still its a nice concept. A double save on the environment and on people.

That's definitely a good way to save energy and power for more things.. Just imagine how much of power is generated when one is running on the treadmill?? IT's such a waste if one does not make full use of it.. haha =D Just like how windmills generate energy too, treadmills do work the same way.. Actually, they should have come up with such a concept long time ago, but i guess it's due to the amount of number, whom goes to gym, that's quite unlikely in the past.. haha =D BUt now, with so many ple being health conscious, this idea will work for sure ^_^

Hi lynette, this is something I have not heard of as yet, maybe it will be more well known in the not too distant future, but it does sound great, yet another way to save power and carbon footprint it's amazing with the things that are coming now that do save electric, etc...littleowl

I think it's like we're going back to the old times.. the "manual way" but i think this is a great idea!.. if all gym equipments have this kind of feature converting mechanical energy into electrical energy then we can save money..
