It is problem which one of my friend who travels with me to office was telling. It is very weird. It is also making me embarrassed to ask. My I know there are many mylotters who will answer this. For few days they have given shelter to a 21 yr old young man. He has no place or none to turn to. The guy stays in their house. He does some household work and also studies few books as he is nearly illiterate. Now the problem started last friday. They noticed at night that someone is shouting. they rushed where the guy sleep as the sound was coming from his room. They saw that he was sitting clutching the pillow and was seeming very frightened. The main problem is that he had wet himself. Seeing them, he was ashamed too but apologized saying he was very frightened at night seeing at some shadow outside window, which might be just a tree so he wet himself. My friend's parents are very kind. They took him to their room to sleep. What can be the problem? Is it very natural for a 21 yr old to wet getting frightened?

This is a psychological problem and this guy obviously needs to see a proper doctor for this. It will continue and there miight be other things too that may not be too obvious right now. Its okay to be nice but when people are emotionally disturbed they should be treated.

I'll just reiterate what others have said here, I think it's very important he go to a doctor about this; a psychologist would probably be best. This doesn't sound normal, and I think you would find out he had some kind of traumatic experience, when he was younger; if he was evaluated.

Honestly it is not a weird problem... when I was a teenager I still wet the bed... I use to have nightmares that made me wet the bed.. I have that problem, every blue moon now... The best thing for this young man to do it to seek professional help.. there could be one of two things that could be happening; he is also having those problems or something might be wrong with his ability to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bath room. I can understand why he was embrassed that he did it... along with getting him some help for that, have a trash put over the couching, and then a fitted sheet.. along with an extra fitted sheet and trash bags so when he wakes up to find out what happen he can fix it before they get up.. I was very upset when I had a problem too.. I was worried that someone was going to make fun of me..

hmmm seems a little unusual I think but then I guess there are all sorts of people in this world with all sorts of strsses and they are affected in many different ways..Like I have a bad habit at night thinking I have forgotten to take medication that I am not on and I think I am going to die because I haven't taken them, I actually go searching through draws and try and figure things out..after awhile I realize everything is ok....so I guess everyone is different.

i think, most probably he must be recollecting some traumatic experience he underwent,or maybe he had a bad dream or something of that sort as he doesnot wet his pants daily.

Your friend's family really seems to be a kind people . I heard there is one one problem with few people who are not able to control themselves from getting wet . My cousin who was about 16 at that time still used to wet his bed because of that problem . They are not able to control it or make notice of it like all of us .

well I don't think it's common, but it happens. He could be remembering something traumetizing that happened to him. In my opinion, he should see a doctor. They could diagnose him and hopefully help him. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was abused.

i think it is a bit unusual... but sometimes people do wet themselves when they get frightened or have a bad dream... may be your friend can bring him to the doctor to get him checked... good luck... take care and have a nice day...

This is not normal Subha. You did not mention about his background and past but I think he must have gone through something traumatic that's bothering him sub consciously. Your friend and his parents are really kind to have sheltered him. I think they can go and see him a doctor.

Nope, definitely not normal. At 24 I had a person actually stick their head in the window of my bedroom. I screamed at the top of my lungs when I saw him, but I didn't wet the bed. I think this guy has something in his past haunting him, because a shadow from a tree isn't enough to scare the urine out of a grown person. There has to be something else going on. How lucky is this person to have found such kind friends. Not only did they take him into their home, but they also allowed him to sleep in the bed with them as though he were a child.

I have gone through this topic on one of our classes at college before since I studied nursing this also involves some psychology. One of the reason that someone whose not a child anymore(or also may be a child) who wets his/her pants may have undergone a very traumatic experience in their lives. Usually in a household the abuser happens to be a part of the family which also causes the abused to develop fears on that person and at night dreams of it.

Yes that can happen to anyone at any age. Depends on what they have been through in the past. I have a niece at 27 that still wakes up screaming at night now and then, it isn't as bad as it was, still when she is stressing about something it reoccurs. The only thing I can suggest is talk to the young man and ask what has happened to him in the past. That is how I found out about my niece's problem with sleep. The more they are able to relax and discuss it the easier they will be able to overcome some of that anxiety..

it is kind of weird, but it is something we may explain it.Maybe he has some prolems in his body,or he has some bad memories wicth made him so scared and wet himself.if this happened often ,better take him to a doctor.there is always something that is difficult to understand.

He must have been suffering from some psychological issues. You can try talking to him yourself and if he is not really feeling comfortable to open up with you then it will be really helpful if you can take him to some doctor. I am pretty sure a counseling with some trained psychologist will work out in this problem.

I think that things like that happen and that it's most likely he'd been frightened for quite some time and had needed to use the toilet but hadn't and had scared himself, screaming and then wetting himself. I think that it's very kind that your friends parents have let him sleep in their room. The best thing I can think to say is that maybe he needs to get used to the home before feeling comfortable. Being in a weird room or house can be quite frightening at night.

The thing is sometimes people have to wear diapers and what not their entire lives because of how their muscles and bladders are and what not. The main thing is that there are steps that can get taken to where he can build the muscles etc. so it doesn't happen - but that is only if there is a problem. The thing is I would take him to talk to a physician to see if there is something medically wrong or if there is something that truly needs to be done at all and maybe its just something that happens every once in awhile so its not a big deal. Also - there might be something wrong with him mentally considering the story. If he is getting so frighten, and if he is having trouble learning, there might be a mental disability. Again - seeking someone medically can have a lot more answers than any mylotter can give you.

This is a very interesting topic that I have come across. As for me life has got full of surprises.Whatever happen to your friend's home is a surprise that life has to offer.Since, the young man is a 21yrs old and on the top of that he wet's himself means to me, 'doctor' should take care of that particular subject.
