I am not an atheist per see but i believe if there is no religion then there wouln`t be these undue differences right. There wouldnt be taliban, jews, christians, etc. Everyone would be the same with only color difference. Gosh i love that.
How many of them support a world without religion. It can be still cultured dont you think.

I honestly don't think religion is the cause of it. Everyone should be able to believe whatever the heck they want to believe without anyone telling them they're wrong or stupid or inferior or whatever.
I think the main root of the problem is ignorance and intolerance. Imagine a world without either of these! That trumps the religion problem because it would eliminate the concern of not only religion but different skin colors, races, ethnicities, languages, cultures, etc.
Religion isn't the main problem with the world, so to say that everyone would be the same except for skin color isn't right. There's still all those other things that seem to divide us. Once people stop caring about differences and start looking for similarities and accepting people for who they are then all these petty differences cease to matter.
Of course, that'll never happen and all this is is useless babbling anyway, but it's nice to dream.

I don't believe in Religion as such, but I believe in ones Faith in the Almighty one.Cause even people under the same religion have different outlook on their personal beliefs. And no, I don't think that the absence of religion would be a good idea. It's what keeps people sane.
There is violence cause people exploit their beliefs and pervert them. So it's people who are to blame instead blaming their FAITH.

Hi choudhary, I believe that we are all one and that we have all gotten away from the original intent of all religion which is a way of life, not the worship of a deity. If we all realized the truth and saw everyone as our brothers and sisters, religion would be about everyone having at least the basic human needs. The money now spent on building huge structures to worship a God that we imagine cares more about his pride than about human hunger, could be spent to eliminate poverty in the world. There would be no more war because we would all know that hurting another is also hurting ourselves. I think that this is what religion was meant to be, but the teachings were changed many times over until we have what we see in the world today. Sure we would be better off without the fighting and killing in the name of the religion that we have today, but true religion, practiced rather than talked about, would be just what the doctor ordered. Blessings.

Religion only teaches people to become good, it's the people who are bad actually.
If there were no religion then even some people who become better humans because of religion would also be lost and the number of bad persons would increase not decrease.
You can see that fights always happen between people irrespective of whether they have any religion or not. People even from the same religion kill each other !
In fact my religion (Islam) calims to stabalize society and decrease unrest and crime making the world more peaceful.
You can watch peace TV and see what Islam teaches.

We could never really do without religion. There are a million lessons to learn around religion and none of them about God. Isn't religion just an excuse or justification for how they truly want to act?? In the lesson of how not to hate, diversity in many things is necessary. Think of all the things people hate, religion, race, sexuality, size, looks, ever big feet or ears. How about hate to prove I'm right or better? Hate to be more popular or rich? There are an endless supply or reasons to hate. The reasons must exist so we can see the consequences of hate. We are really being taught unconditional love. It would be so much easier if we chose that to start with!!!

I would be the happiest person alive,if we had a world without religion. I am spiritualy inclined.I am not religious at all.
The root of all religion is the same. Love, peace, respect, help the needy, so on and so forth. But several humans forget this and then there is killing, pain and blood-shed, all in the name of religion.Something which is a shame!
So I believe we can be good humans ,even without having so many religions.

i don't agree with you... i still prefer to have a world with religion... we are created by God according to His image and hence we have a spiritual aspect that have to be fulfilled inside us by worshiping our Creator... and our soul will never find peace and fulfilled until we find Him and seek solace in Him... so i believe that religion is a must for human beings... take care and have a nice day...

I would not really welcome a world without religion. What we see around us today and what you have mentioned are the negative aspects of religion only because people have forgotten the true spirit of religion i.e. love, humanity and compassion.
Religion has many positive aspects on our life. The way that most people around us would think twice before committing a crime is only because their religion teaches them about heaven and hell, about sin and how to avoid it. The way people give to charity to help the poor is only because their religion tells them to do so, if they want a place in heaven. Religion and its various rites and rituals add colour and variance to our everyday life, reliving it of boredom. To many people around the world, religion instills a sense of discipline in their lives.
Ideally, I would have liked to have secular democratic government in each and every corner of the globe with public display of religion in any form being banned. Religion is a very private issue and it should be kept that way, within the confines of our homes and minds.

Yes a lot many wars and killings have taken place in the name of religion only because selfish leaders, for their own gain and glory, have allowed and promoted religion to spill out from the privacy of our rooms and we, like blind, deaf and dumb sheep, have followed them without any questions.

What can you learn from the teachings of the Buddha? You can learn compassion and tolerance of the beliefs of others. You can learn that the concept of sin is man made and that there is nothing you need to be saved from. Most importantly you can learn that no dogma should be accepted without question.

What a wonderful world it is because we all know and understand the teachings of the sun and the stars, every person on the planet has a star sign and the reason for this is because it is our true religion, the day we are born is significant in the way we act and think for the rest of our lives. With the recent confirmation of the Lemur Monkey being the link between us and the animals, we know for certain where we came from - we evolved. I believe that religion can help you like any meditation or practice, It has a set of rules and a set of beliefs - all of which are good. There are two kinds of people in this world - people who practice religion and people who don't. I personally don't so I class all religious people as one, I don't differ or prefer each one like they do themselves, it's a sad state of affairs, I believe that as we grow smarter over the next millenium - extreme religion will die out as all the different religions realise that they are all based on similar values and the points for argument shall be pointless to exploit. Religion can only be truly good if people from different religions can be happy for each other and treat each other as fellow faithfuls. People who can't or won't accept or don't like other religions are the cause of hurt, pain and suffering, and I personally don't think they will be granted peace when they die.
PS Chang - I have been to Dharmasala in North West India and I would love to become a buddhist because it seems like the most peaceful religion, but I am from England, I couldn't just become a buddhist - I have a life to live, people I love who might not see me because I am in a red robe in the north of India. For some people religion comes first, for others it comes second - for me it doesn't come at all, I am a pleasant person and I can safely say my mothers religion of honesty, hard work and happiness is the only religion i'll ever need!!!

I believe there is a vacuum in each one of us which can only be filled by our belief in a greater power than us, it will not be possible to have a world without religion.
What would be more interesting (and possible) is a world with only one religion. We Christians believe that this world is coming and we wait for it with anticipation....

as for me its a big NO. it would be better if you said that its wonderful to have a world with only ONE religion.
i think the problem with this undue differences that you're saying is not the religion itself coz i believe that no religion would teach to do bad things or terrorize others, i think it is the people who practice such religion makes it complicated or give it a bad name. There would be no problem even if we have different religions or beliefs if only we all know how to respect other people and their beliefs.
we can't force other people to believe on what we believe but we also have our own mind to know the difference between right and wrong and if only we practice what our religion is teaching us i think it would not make a problem coz i believe that every religion is teaching only good things for the welfare of their people come judgement day!

People are born needing. We need food, clothing, clean diapers, love. Without religion, how would we learn to take care of basic needs, learn to love? The basic religions of the world teach respect, love, honor. Some of them come from the same beginning and branched off into their own interpretation of what their heritage would grow into, but, a few of the major religions/faiths came from the same starting point. They should therefore teach the same principals, but, they did choose to differenciate from each other in theology. Back to the point that most religions teach positive behavior for prosperous, or victorious living with the other humans and nature we share. If we didn't have a basic outline for life we would have ciaos and we would have worse crime and abuse then we have now.
Not everyone that has religion or faith is perfectly walking in their beliefs, and that is where we have trouble. Even the thought of one religion for all would be wrong, because deep inside each of us we want choice, and inevitably, there would be people that don't want whatever was picked, would rebel, and then we recycle the behaviors we currently have; people not getting along.
Religion is designed to structure people that need guidance. Faith is beliving that you have chosen the right path for your life. Faith and religion aren't the same. Faith is inside, what you believe. Religion is your works that support what you believe.
I know there is a mess out there, but I think it would be worse if there weren't true Believers and DOers of their faith, trying to love and care for each other and also for those that don't believe as they do.
It is too bad we can't have all our individual choices line up into one perfect world. And because it never will, we need to continue to choose to respect the differences we have and see that each of us is here now with the same rights to live in choice.
Great Discussion.

Religion is only one of the methods that people use to create differences between themselves. There are many other ways that groups of people create differences and strife. Tribalism in many African nations, Colonialism was about creating differences, racism is about how one group thinks they are superior to another for whatever reason. All of these things are the brainchild of the human psyche, including religion; which is why they cause dissension. Now if you are talking about a world without faith; it would most likely end up being more chaotic than the way it is now. Faith is what helps people hold things together even during the most trying times.

I dont think a world without religion would be the answer..I think that tolerance and more so acceptance of all other religions (along with cultures, races, lifestyles etc) would make a HUGE positive difference...
Everyone would be the same with only color difference
we wouldnt be the same though, we all come from different countries, backgrounds etc..we would all still be very different as we should be

You're right, there would be no taliban, jews, or Christians. There would still be criminals and violent groups, as well as countries who war over the slightest differences. Even as an atheist, I am under no delusion that the world would improve without religion. It's a shame some atheists delude themselves with that belief, though.
Quite frankly, I like the world WITH religion. It makes things more interesting.

Without sounding too pessimistic but knowing the people who are creating all sorts of trouble in today's world,I feel that even if there was no religion in this world it would simply not matter.Man can at his own will and using his own perceptions and thoughts create his own problems and these snowball into controversies and slowly develop into full blown issues involving an entire social network that thinks and supports the cause. This is what has been leading to modern day violence.Man has this ability to invent problems out of things like money, land, vote banks, egos, minority rights, reservations etc.Anything in fact.So religion's existence or non existence does not matter a bit.

Sometimes, I do think of that when ever i see war and terror between Religions all over the world.but i am not really if it's a good idea to allow religion to diminished. some people are not strong and able enough to survive with out religion that they will create their own God.But if there's no religion, probably we aren't prepared for the unknown in case it comes to our lives..

It would have been better if we handnt called ourself Jews, Christian,Hindu,Buddhist,Muslim or anything. Why dont we call ourself just religious(religious is spiritual) man and not specify the name.
What is there in name? You call yourself a chirstian or muslim doesnt going to change anything. What really going to introduce a change i our behaviours. To be honest to be truthful, helpfull to everyone is the base of every religions. And to add up every religion tells us to be a good human beings.
