cat chewing up stuff

A few months ago my husband brought home a kitten. I've had cats before, and I'm used to them clawing on stuff but chewing is new to me. He chewed on a pair of my shoes, he loves chewing on cardboard, and recently chewed holes in some of my shirts! Does anyone else have a cat that chews up things?

if he's between 4 and 7 months, he's getting his adult teeth if he's been chewing since day-one, well he probably didn't get enough "mom" time and that maybe because he chewed there I had a trio of kittens that got into the the pigs ears we gave the dogs and chewed them, they did out grow it. But now I have an adult cat who likes to chew on fingers when he's happy. I suggest looking around for some thing like the cat "greenies" or even something like a pigs ear that he can chew on and mean while, keep all the stuff you don't want him chewing on put away.

ohhh, he's a carrier, you might be able to train him to retrieve, if you are willing to work on it Rygel, one of my cats, used to carry his toys from where we put them to where he wanted to play with them - even if they were attached to a string, he'd just break it.

It's hard to say exactly how old he is, we got him from a rescue, and they said he was about 6 months old, which makes him 11 months now. The best thing about him chewing is that it means I have to keep the place tidy to keep my shoes and shirts out of his reach. Other favorite activities are knocking things off tables and carrying around his toys (or sometimes my thread spools, kitchen sponges, and once an empty plastic milk jug). He keeps me on my toes.

I think he likes the comfort of something that smells of you. Maybe you could make some small strips of old sheet etc and wear them close to your skin leaving him one as something comforting to play with if he has to be left. You can get plug in cat pheromones (I think that's what it is) that makes them feel more secure too. Maybe he is just a natural predator and is practicing for birds and mice. My kitten chews cardboard shoe box corners and my fingers. He's done it since he was tiny, if he was hungry he'd come grab my finger, bless him. He still does seem to like to get his teeth and occasionally claws in to hold me still or a lick clean. This morning he has chewed the head off his first bird - under my bed - eeeek!

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll sleep in one of the t-shirts he chewed a hole in and cut it up to give him. He does bite at me, or swat at my legs when he wants to play. Thankfully he hasn't killed anything bigger than an insect yet.

My cats will chew on my foam flip flops cardboard but never clothes. They will also chew on paper I have come across paper that has little pin holes all over the corners and only found out it was my cats causing it by watching them do it. Cats are funny like that some times.

Cat's are funny, each one has it's own weird quirks.
