Trying to decide on which book to read next...

I have two books to choose from.
I get most of my books from my sister. She is a major bookworm and apparently has a bigger budget than I do. And maybe more friends. She exchanges books with several people. She is always bringing books over for my dad or myself to read. My dad lives about 1 block away from me.
So right now, I have two of those "hand me down" books to choose from.
They are "Plum Spooky" by Janet Evanovich and
"Sail" by James Patterson
Have you read either of them? Did you like it? Which one do you think I should read next?
If you've never read either Author, I highly recommend both of them.

At this stage I have been needing my reading to be real low key. I just re-read Mary Steward's Merlin Trilogy plus the epilogue book "the Wicked Day," being my favorite visit to the days of King Author.
I have all kinds of unread, serious stuff I cannot face just now. Last year Vicki & I donated literally a pickup load of mostly unread by us books, cleaning out the garage.
Currently I am reading an old Sci-Fi titled "city of Illusions" by Ursula K. LeGuin, copyright 1980.

I know what you mean about not wanting to read the more serious stuff. I go through phases like that too. Real life is serious enough, sometimes books are for escape! Janet E. is usually a fun read.
Sometimes I like the Merlin type stories, but sometimes those are a little too involved for me. The more I talk about myself, the more I'm convinced I do have ADD. I rarely have the attention span for long or involved books.

Oh my stars - Mary Stewart. The first book I ever read as a 13 year old and loved was one I found in my aunt's book shelf. It was called Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart. I subsequently picked up a couple more of her titles from a seconhand book shop in Changi when I lived in Singapore for a couple of years, copyrighted in 1964 and thereabouts mind you. I'm astonished to find a kindred fan. I had not realised there was a Merlin Trilogy. I have The Crystal Cave and the Last Enchantment and The Wicked Day...there must be another. I love re-reading my favourite books (they're ALL favourites...lol) so guess what my next book will be?

Stewart's crowning achievement is the Merlin Trilogy. It is a literary romance style but does not fit the romance genre. It is quite successfully written in the first person. Also, as an author myself, who has published a first of a series, each novel stands by themselves, and would not strictly speaking, need to read them in order. In extreme contrast is Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings," with is truly a 3 volume story and not in any way, shape, or form a trilogy. (And if one has not read "the Lord of the Rings" then by all means read the "Hobbit" first. Truly, "The Hobbit" is a prologue to "the Lord of the Rings.")
Her following of millions did not want the story to end. The fourth book, "The Wicked Day" is that book. It is written in the typical third person. When I re-read I sometimes forego this last book.

I haven't heard of any of the authors. Right now I am in the company of a Dan Brown book. Yesterday I finished a thriller in Italian and now want to finish this. Since you highly recommend both, what type of novels do they write?

I haven't read either of the books, or authors. I'm more into historic novels and English History; King Arthur and Merlin; and Robin Hood. I think I would tend to get a feel of the books by reading what the critics have to say because I've picked up a couple of good novels that way... nothing to do with my usual reading. lol.
It's nice that your sister drops books off for you. My Mum seems to do the same and a friend who lives closeby. It's a great way to run a library without the fees, lol. We can pass them on to the next person!
Brightest Blessings my friend and happy reading!

I appreciate your dilemma. I've read both those authors and like them very much. Janet Evanovitch always makes me laugh. I wish I could read more than I do. I'm a very slow reader unfortunately. I need to do a speed reading course.
If I were you I'd flip a coin.

nope I have never read them, but maybe your sister would be interested in my books that could be purchased from the companies and one you can even purchase and read over the net.

I don't know Ms. Evanovich but I am familiar with Patterson who I have enjoyed reading. I would as a result pick his book.

I haven't read either one of them, but I just finished reading "Beach" by Patterson and I recently read "Plum Lucky" by Evanovich and they were both good. I am gonna pick up "Sail" and "Plum Spooky" when I can. I can't get enough of either one of these writters. Patterson's Women's Murder Club is great reading and Stephanie Plum's Grandma Mazur keeps me in stitches.
Thanks for the discussion.
Happy MyLotting...
