Hi all, Well, the doctors have had my husband jumping though hoops with all these test and scans and drawing blood and alot of it..We have been at the doctors office almost everyday for one test or another for the last two weeks and every time they draw blood. Hubby is starting to feel like he was sucked dry by a vampire. They had trouble getting blood out of one arm, and hubby told them they already drained it dry they will have to start on the other one...lol I am just glad that we get a few days rest before they have to do a small heart procedure on his heart on Monday in Ashland at King Daughters Hospital..He still has a long way to go till he is through, since he has the gallstones to get taken out next week also and his liver surgery and prostate. He said by the time they are done he will be a new man..taking out and and putting in..might just might have my own biotic man..lolBut I ask that he please be kept in your prayers thoughout this ordeal. Thanks for lending the ear..

My prayers go for your husband as he go through all these.
I had a similar experience when I had a dengue in Bangkok in 2007. Day and night they had to take blood samples for about 30 cc each time to monitor my platelet count. Don't know why they had to take that much. And one time a stupid nurse aid checked my Blood Pressure on my left arm where the IV was inserted. What a torture!
Might be good to suggest you find the book called "Eat right for your type" by Peter J. D'Adamo. It's a very interesting book which tells us what is the right food according to our blood type. Most helpful especially for people with infirmities.

Oh, and forgot to answer your main question... I am not a phlebotomist (phleobotomist or hematologist/tech), but I do know that they often do have to use all the blood they draw in one test. I know that it's not fun when they call you up to ask you to come in again as one of the tubes did not have enough blood in it. Or one of them dropped, etc.

thank you for your comment.once they try to get blood and they couldn't get any out of his left arm,he told the they have took all his blood, that they would have to try the other arm.and if they keep taking his blood they would have to start giving some blood back to him.

Sorry I hadn't seen your 2nd reply. How's it going? Has he had any labs drawn since your last posting (May 29th)?
Drawing Labs:
1) Any chance that he could have a visiting nurse to help care for him each morning or afternoon? During recovery, I had that before, for a while, and my blood had to be drawn every single day. But to keep it easier for me, we drew my blood at my home, and nurse would drop it off at lab clinic.
2) - Tip on widening blood veins (though I bet you've done most of them): On the way to get labs done, make sure he is pumping his muscles (squeeze arms tight, hold it, and then release plenty) to get the blood flowing. I also bend arms on most of muscle flexes.
- Keep arms as warm as possible (hot/warm pack can also make veins wider).
- Lightly hit your (he taps himself on veins) to make them rise up.
- Each time, ask for experienced phleobotomist, as there are many out who stink, and a some who are great.
- Ask pheobotomist (and see for yourself), which are largest, main, biggest veins on you, for needs when they are searching on low vein ays. (Like my main one is the elbow pit on my left arm, the inside, about half an inch down from the bending "pit" part).
Hope that helps. Good luck!

I'll see what I can do. Not sure how much he is gonna listen to me but I guess I can still send the prayer up. I guess the fresher the blood the better, not really sure if they use it all or not. Well, talk to you soon..

Blood drawn almost every day stinks!!!!! That often happens when an inpatient at the hospital, but at appointments is not any fun. I would make sure to speak to the doctors (best if there is a head of the team), and ask them to all communicate and order any needed tests so they can be done in one drawing, instead of multiple ones.
When poked so often, it gets more and more painful to suck out of the dried up, poor veins. If it is several doctors he has been seeing, and each one who orders a blood test, different, that's why I'dsay to have them coordinate whenever possible.
