Many of us has a stigma attached to the fact that 'wanting to get rich' is 'immoral' for us and the society. I feel, it's NOT. In fact it gives us comfort, peace and resources to pursue our dreams.
My question is, do you want to get rich? If yes, why?
PS: Rich is not a metaphor here. I really mean Rich as in money. Honest opinion is most appreciated.

There is a stigma attached to it as immoral and yet there is an ambition for everyone to get rich.
My understanding of being rich is not in comparison to someone else but more in terms of having more than what i consider as sufficient.
There is nothing wrong in being rich .I too would like to have more money to go about achieving my dreams and all that i have set out to do including my responsibilities/obligations to society.
The only thing i should always remember is money corrupts easily. It brings with it a power of superiority which is overwhelming and needs a strong will power and determination to resist. And there's another thing i've seen with a lot of rich friends. Once you have reached a particular level of richness or wealth, you are always trying to maintain or better it. Money on thier mind always. Family and the world around them does not matter any more. This is where the problem is. There is a lot more to this but that would be digressing away.
In a nutshell, i would like to be rich if i could, but without having to think about money all the time and then go about doing the things which i have dreamt about.

My view point is pretty much the similar. The truth however is that money starts to affect our values and only people with strong values and beliefs stay in the run. The crave for money, power and fame could get us to nowhere.
I want to earn money but for chasing my dreams of helping myself. We get stuck at one point when we need more money to see our dreams come true. I just want that much money. I think, I have enough of physical comfort now.

To be perfectly honest, yes, I want to get rich. Not filthy as in owning 20% of the worlds richest rich. Just be 'rich enough to be comfortable and not having to worry about anything plus a little extra' rich.
I dont think that its immoral to want to be rich. Its just that sometimes the execution and the means that people take just to get there are a bit off the mark that it costs other people as well as themselves, there by making them less 'richer' than they already are. Hope that made sense.^_^

That made perfect sense. Riches get to become filthy when we misuse it and I do not see myself there. Comfortable living, also needs money and materials but then, I think its essential to nourish our dreams.

Well said BJ! Comfortable living could be subjective but I would like to take it generally for anything excess and extravagant is wastage.

Hi mIMPI! THis discussion seemed to have not got a response from me so far. To your question,--'rich' is a pretty relative use. I do not want to get richer than I am at present;I was born into a reasonably affluent family and throughout my young life I have not thought too much about money at all ;after marriage, I always had enough for my needs and these were quite simple well within our means. When means were slightly less, I could pitch in and earn my own and have my own.
Personally I still would like to earn as much as possible because it gives me a sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction of being productive .I baulk only at physical intense work and would like to be rich enough to pay for comfortable commuting, a cook and a servant.Other things do not matter. Not too many desires.

Hi Mimpi!
Everyone like to be rich in terms of money, so would be I. However, I would like to be rich by pursuing honest means not through dishonest means or by cheating anyone. If my skills and hard labour can fetch me good amount of money or I get to know such an 'art' which can bring me loads of money, I would like to be rich. It is said that money is not everything, yet the simple fact remains that to run our day to day life and to fulfill our never ending desires/demands we require money.

So true. We cannot be happy by pushing others on our way to the top. Money is good but not at the cost of others.

Hello mimpi. I think that it is one of my dreams to get rich, but I have to say that I am not ambitious enough to have my dream realized because I find that while trying to get rich, I do not want to work too hard as to lose my spare time for some fun. So I think that I can only live a somewhat moderate and peaceful life without too much striving for it.
I am quite different from one of my former colleagues, who uses every moment of his time working for some ideal extra money by tutoring, which doubles his real working income. He is a success and even owns an apartment in the largest city of China, Shanghai. You know, house price in big cities is rather high, let alone in Shanghai.
While I admire him for his spirit and striving stories, I prefer my current life somehow though I also want to make some change. It is not a bad thing to want to get rich because it changes our life and improves our life as well to a great extent...Take care, mimpi.

Thanks William for a beautiful response. Indeed today we are so after our dreams that we are forgetting to stop by and enjoy the fun time, real time with the nature or something that we love doing. It's sad.
While I appreciate your friend, I really congratulate you for a beautiful life that you have been living. Life is all about living it and living it with a smile. And you are doing just that.

HI Mimpi,
I'd say having enough is good enough, and it means being able to send the kids to school so they get the education they need to survive in this very competitive world. It means having enough food for the family without worrying where the money for the next meal will come from. It also means living in a shelter that is comfortable enough for all my loved ones. Having extra for the nice-to-haves when all the "needs" have been addressed is most welcome too.
Rich people have more things at their disposal, and they have the power to make other people's lives better. They can help save the dwindling economy by putting up businesses and provide jobs. Their ability to help is boundless because they have the financial capability to do carry them out. For these reasons, I wanna be rich.

That's so well put! I think, nothing like having to go to bed with a nice smile in our face and peace within. We all aspire to secure the future of our children and see our family and loved ones the happiest and for that we do need to resort to money.
Thanks dear for this. I wish you all that you want in life. Blessed be.

I don't necessarily wish to become rich, no; but I'd definitely like to get to a level where I can live my life without having to be concerned about my finances! It would be a wonderful position to be in if I could live my life completely devoid of monetary related stress. I don't see rich as immoral either. Not if the person looking to achieve financial greatness is able to balance their lives positively and not become consumed by the money itself. Philanthropists for example..... What an inspiring balance between money, success and conscience they're able to portray!

Hi Mimpi,
What a question you asked and my answer is ‘yes of course’, but sure I am not a greedy person. (Are you going to reveal any secrete for getting rich soon, just asked for fun, as I am getting junks mails with these subject lines). For answering the ‘why’ part there are many reasons dear. I had met many people in my visit not only the relatives but neighborhood people also. Many are well settled and at the same time some are struggling too. When I met the struggled people I really thought if I have enough money I would have share with them. The heart touching story was about a girl she is doing her degree (a neighborhood girl) struggling for her studies and even for dress. I felt really bad while thinking about her especially in her age; it is natural to wish good dresses and other things like her friends. I helped her by my own way but then also I am thinking if I am rich I could have given more helps to her. There are many other reasons like these.
So definitely I wish to become rich for others and it is true I am against the immoral way of getting rich.
P.S. My trip was good and am doing fine.

That says it all Sree. Money achieved by wrong means never going to make us happy, so what's the point. Money is good. It helps us to help ourselves and to help others.

Well, for sure it's not a stigma to me at all. I have always strive to get rich everyday of my life but unfortunately I am not there yet.
In my honest opinion, it is reality that a person has to be rich in order to do many things in life. This is a reality in the world we live today.

Of course I want to get rich, there is some trouble around me which all can be resolved by money. Now I am working as a job which I hate it very much, I always want to resign but I can't do that, bucause when I lost it all the living source will be cutted, how can I continue to make my living? If I have enough money all the thing will turn easy, I can resign my job everytime and not necessary to worry about the living.

Who doesn't want to be rich? If I have the opportunity then why not? It would be good to be able to live comfortably and help those who are need. It's not bad to dream to become rich as long as you push your way up without stepping on somebody.

I don`t want to get rich.Well, even though money is very important without doubt,I think we cannot get everything with it.There`s no need for me to get rich,I just need to earn enough money for myself and my family. It`s more impotant for me to enjoy the happy life anyway.Maybe I will get lost if I really get rich.

Hey mimpi! I guess it would be silly to say no to this question!
Who wouldn't want to be rich! I would of course! I would love
to not have to worry about paying bills and being able to do
the thinks that I want to do even if they are just the simple
things like going out for a nice dinner! I would just like to
be able to live comfortably and make sure that both me and my
Mom are taken care of without having to continuously worry
about money all the time! But, that is just a dream, I guess!

I'd have to say no to the question Reason Being is because Rich People get an ego higher than the sky and they are snobby. I'd rather just have enough money to get threw. People think they need money but you really dont for the most part. Rich people think money buys everything and it dont. You cant buy your way threw life.

I only consider wanting to get rich 'immoral' when it exceeds the morals and standards of society, i.e, killing, robbing, etc.
Personally I do want to get rich, I want to be rich because I want to experience what it feels like to not want for anything, to be able to see something and spontaneously decide whether I want it or not without concern for price.
