i was told yesterday by my dad that the music i listen too, the movies i watch, and the games i like playing will make me get into more evil things or have me do them
my thing all my life and i belive playing games, listening to music, and watching movies dont people do evil things. it's the person who dont know the different between real and fake life.
i know my kids we let them listen to almost anything that they wanted. not only my kids but other kids who play the vedio games with shooting and stuff. they are good kids never been in trouble with the law.
so you really think music, tv, movies, and games make a person do stuipd things? or is it the person themself.

You know what I think influences young people the most? Their parents and their level of involvement with their child. Sure, TV, video games, music, etc. can all influence you. So can the type of food you eat, who you like to hang out with, where you live, etc. But in the end it's how you were raised that I think shapes and influences you the most.
At the end of the day, though, objects don't make people do stupid things. People choose to do something stupid through a lack of judgement. I'm a firm believer that objects are just that - objects.

I think that blaming violence, bad behavior or evilness on things around you like movies, games or music is simply looking for an excuse for the problem. The fact is that ppl make choices everyday and if they do something wrong, bad or evil they need to be held accountable for their actions and not blame it on something else.
I will say this though, alot of times in movies the person who has done wrong, doesn't face any consequences...alot of kids get the idea that's how it actually works. Also kids need to be taught that what they see in movies, for the most part, is made up.
My Nephew loves Freddy Kruger movies. For a long time he was fasinated with him and believed he would come in your dreams...One night when he stayed over we sat down and watched the Behind the Scenes of one of his movies...all about how they made the costume, the razor hand, the blood and gore scenes, everything. Now he understands that it's just a man playing a part. I think more parents need to do that so kids understand that the evil things they see in movies are just acting...it's not real.

Hi syankee, I'm not sure but I don't like the idea of violence. It may not affect the majority of young people but it will affect some. While I know some wonderful young people who grew up with all this sort of thing, I can't help but notice that that there is a lot more violence in our society in resent years. I know that there are other factors that may be the cause, so I'm not ready to put all the blame on video games and movies as yet. I would not however expose very young children to it. Blessings.

I believe, as a Christian, that Satan DOES use certain things as tools of destruction. But I also believe that all things with moderation are okay. Yeah, if you sit in front a violent game and movie and that is ALL you ever watch and play then your brain is going to interpret that as fun and bring it out to reality. However, there is also that part about people wanting to blame other things and other people rather than take responsibility for their own actions. It goes both ways I guess.

People choose to do what they do... not movies, not music, not the devil. People.
One way to look at it is that there are know serial killers who weren't allowed many of those things because of their parents and they still turned to crime.
People do what they do. Some times it' how they were brought up but then they may have siblings who grew up with those same parents, those same abuses and they become great members of the community.

If it was only T.V. and movies that made people evil, there wouldn't have been any Hitler or any other monster who lived before t.v. You Have to be born evil or good. Or it is life that can change a person, but not just images on a screen.

I don't feel that these things make someone do anything, although people try to blame it on something. I do believe that peer pressure and the wrong choice of friends do influence kids.

I have always played pretty graphic video games and so far I haven't had any violent tendancies from them. I think it would depend on the person as to if it could effect them or not. It might "harden" someone to the sight of blood but I don't know about causing them to be violent. Same with movies. Music would be more persuasive in my opinion. I do develop a mood depending on what I'm listening yo. I don't think it could cause someone to commit a violent act. I think it's the person that does the stupid stuff and not so much to so with those things.

Goo question! THumbs up! I think music, video games, movies, whatever can desensitize a person, and can send the wrong messages that certain things are okay. I think it is ultimatly the person who are responsible for their actions. I don't know how much people should be sheltered from it though. We should be bale to be mature enough to know what affects us badly and what we can handle and allow into our minds.

Hmmm, well, I imagine the stuff your dad is calling 'evil' is probably child's stuff compared to what my siblings listen too! There is such a thing as discretion on the parent's part when children are very young, but there comes a time when teens are going to start making some of these choices for themselves. Now, the music I listened to as a child was very controlled. My dad ruled the radio dial with an iron hand! Haha. Me and the brother directly after me actually got in soooo much trouble for sneaking in the middle of the night to listen to country music on our clock radios! Oooooo. Haha. Anyhow, I think that the siblings of mine that now listen to 'evil' music were pretty much personality wise drawn to that type of music early on. I don't think it's the music that made them the way they are... it's that they are the way they are and it draws them to that type of music. But, then again, these things seem to be all relative. And I'm sure that what my children begin listening to as teens will leave many backing off in horror... Haha, because I think the nature of music is to be shocking. And I do believe that music has been delivering on the shock factor. Haha. Besides, it's not the music that is evil... it's the lyrics if anything.

They can desensitize you a little to the negative effects of violence, but they don't encourage you to go out and be violent.

i do think movies music and games can affect people... but it dont always have to be evil neither, that is up to the person on how they want to act.. games can cause your reflexes to get better and your motor skills to inprove, so they are not all bad, and i think it is on the self control that one would have to determin how all this would effect them.

Hello, I believe that any mass media has its own influenses either good or bad, books, lectures and shools of course has its influences to student and so, music, movie and games we do. Bad or good should be measured by proporsionally indicators: does peoples play it all the time that he/she forget to eat or sleep etc., some games, moveie andmusic can make some one "addicted" means that for examples he/she dont want to eat before listening his music, or children do not sleep all night long because he/she is very fond of e\somes games. Some or Pastor remind poeples the danger of Peter Pen serial stories, even their ideas that can contamine to ur faith, spiritual educations/trust. But I think it is only a kind of TALE, fictive and as reliefer, or consolation only, but sometime there is book or idea which can make someone not good, so according to your topic primarily we are reader or player must limit aour self and aware and criticaly, dont take everything in book or movies we see for granted.

I don't doubt that there are some people who will be influenced by these things, but not the majority. The problem I have with the media is that they don't always show that there are consequences for actions. It's up to the parents to teach their children about these consequences.
I have a friend whose oldest son (still in elementary school) loves to play games on the computer. One day at school, one boy was picking on his friend. My friends son suggest to his friend that they get a knife and kill the other boy. Needless to say, he was expelled. When his mother explained to him what the consequences of his actions would have been, he broke down in tears. Until she told him, he had no idea. In the games he played, you could kill the bad guy all the time and he would be back the next time you wanted to play the game. The real world doesn't work that way. He still plays computer games, but he has a better understanding of real and not real.

I think children under the age of 6 are generally very impressionable and will imitate almost anything they see on TV. The less real life experience a child has the more they will rely on TV to teach themselves about the world. As people grow older and see for themselves how different real life is from TV the influence of TV becomes less and less. I think TV and video games are more likely to influence a person's behavior than music because they are more engrossing. People tend to be doing real life things while they are listening to music. My children are 6 and 4 and I prefer for them to only watch PBS and Nickelodeon. When they do watch other things I try to watch it with them and expain which parts of the movie could happen in real life and which parts couldn't.
When i was a teenage my mother didn't like for me to listen to Gangster rap . i listened to it anyway but knowing that she didn't approve of it made me look at what i was listening to more critically than if she hadn't paid attention to it.If a person has good thinking skill being exposed to violent entertainment can make you want to avoid violence.
I do know some adults who had very sheltered childhoods and are still unduly influenced by what they see and hear in the media. These people are not violent they just hae unrealistic expectations about romantic relationships.

In my opinion, i do not think that musics, movies or games can make people evil or do bad the things. I can agree that some musics, movies and games do contain violence, horror or acts that is bad or have negative effects on people's thinking. However, it is still up to the person himself or herself to filter and consider the things which are good or bad for him or her. Parents do have the responsiblity to give advice or guidance to their children regarding the things which they should and shouldn't do, but the children themselves also have to know and distinguish between real and fake life. As long as they have the correct and positive thinking, i think there won't be any problem letting them to have the freedom to choose the things they like to do.
