There are more and more people knowing about torrent and downloading via p2p. This is a great way to sharing every kind of file without any restriction. Not only for simple one like mp3, but also complicated file like software installer. In the other side, there are still pro & contradiction about that, about piracy or also about virus spreading. Is it p2p download legal or illegal? How do you think of that, is it torrent have more good side than a dark side?

Every time a song is downloaded, a record executive cries.
Not an artist. They don't care. Money for them is in the shows, not the records. Metallica only cried because they play the role of exec for themselves.
Torrents wont be stopped because the govt lets that happen so that distributors put pressure to force services and NOT ownership - pay monthly for itunes, etc. OnLive is for anti-game piracy, but really it is ALL created to STOP making trash and debris with the wasted, unneeded plastic cases and CDs, and to STOP paying truckers, and so on, who ruin the environment as well.
This is NOT with ANY care for the environment as the green movement, global warming, is all a lie as well - this planet will get hotter and hotter until it meets the sun halfway - period - with or without us, it has been melting for ages, and is soon to begin heating for ages - Period. Your teacher is a liar.
So, the whole point of allowing piracy is to "prove" that YOU can't be trusted with copyrighted stuff. Which makes a lot of sense if you have any intellect for the matter at hand and why they want to lock things down.

I take yours as support of legalizing torrent. If metallica really said so, may be because their band's main stream income is from the show not from the record. But I think for many new band that depend on the records selling, they'll absolutely don't agree with that. That's only my opinion.

I can go anywhere online and watch a movie, a TV show, listen to music and it will be legal, except in a p2p networking system. The reason p2p's are illegal is because the user does not own the copyright or have permission. The only time you can legally download something from a p2p network is if you own it already - this is considered backing up. Fun Fact for you: if you purchased a DVD, CD, etc and it breaks the company that made it will replace it for free.
Back to p2p networks. P2P networks are similar to me taking a CD and loaning it to a friend. If my friend makes a copy of that CD, without having bought the rights to it (buying the CD), he/she would be breaking the law. The same goes for p2p networks. Even though it is illegal, they can not press charges without your IP address and to get your IP address they have to get a court order first. To do that they have to be aware of the fact that you are illegally downloading.

Torrent software is just a tool, so I definitely agree if that one is legal. Is like a knife, of course it is legal but if that knife used for killing people that making it a part of illegal action. Yeah, "the action" is surely make torrent illegal, if that tool used for sharing non-patented file it's just ordinary tool, but the problem started when people abuse it for wrong track.

hiii dear friend..nice to meet you here..who told you that torrent is illegal..This is the illegal one..Thousands of members now are downloading through torrent sites..I will also download many files from the torrent sites..But it takes more time to download files from the torrents if the seed peer ratio is less...And also i will download more from the rapidshares..This is high speed and we can download files with more speed than the torrent..There are many torrent sites which are having more and more files..I usually prefer Demonoid and Torrentz to download..happy mylotting dear friend..have a nice day..happy mylotting..

Back to which term do you use. I think when we talk about just sharing our file, this mean file originally made by us, of course it is not illegal. But when it has a patents of other side outside us, from law view it is definitely illegal. So it will be never ending debate when no person or no formal institution like government don't give a damn care about that. I'm as one person in a global community just want the best for us

Downloading material via torrents is currently illegal - unless you have permission from the copyright holder. How would it be any different than if it wasn't a torrent?
That said, I, along with many many others, disagree with the law; and studies have shown that illegal music downloads actually help artists in the long run, both financially and otherwise. Regardless, it's still illegal, whether or not you like or follow the law.

Help artist in the long run? I don't really get it. But if you think torrent illegal, why the government let it loose. I think they have not take any step, like making any policy about it. For more technical side, there are no effective way to reduce that. Filtering ip address, or even placing a firewall to every service provider to block p2p stream? No, that still can be fooled by using proxy
