Why is this your favourite book and is it a work of 'Literature'? For example, mine would be Huysman's 'Au Rebous' (Against Nature) and this is generally considered a literary work, although it is immensely readable. I enjoyed reading it because it was so different from the typical novel, because the author showed so much erudition and because I identified in many ways with the subject of the book. But what about yourself?

My favourite book of all time is 'memoirs of a geisha'. I've read it about 20 times. Its the one book that I come back to time and time again. I wouldn't say it was a work of literature as such, but I do consider it to be one of the most beautiful and moving stories that I ever read. I read it long before it was made into a film and probably before alot of people had even heard of it. I now have a geisha tattooed on my back because of it. The writer, Arthur Golden, really draws you into the geisha world and describes the scenery, fashions, arts of japan with such beauty and elegance that it is just a pleasure to read this book.

my favourite book of all time is the autobiography of malcolm x by alex haley. it provides an insight into, in my opinion, one of the most interesting civil rights activist's thoughts and life. the book changed my life in the sense that it made me more humble and i always think of how malcolm x went through his life and how he conducted himself, making mistakes along the way, and in the end came out stronge, freer and a more complete man. a person really worth respecting and i just love how, nearing the end of his life, his eyes were opened to the world and became a less aggressive person but yet a passionate leader. :)

I haven't been reading books lately and I have not read sooo many for me to judge which one is the best. But, so far, what I really appreciate is "Tuesdays with Morrie". It taught me about life, love and other things. Guess, many like this book too.

My favorites are fiction rather than literature work. Not much intersting. It was Ann Rice and Stephen King's work. Am I too shallow on reading. Because I rather want to focus on good stories rather than something I have spend time to figure out the idea and emotion of the characters. I once read Jane Austin's book, but I never finish it.

My favorite book would have to be "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint Exupery. I'm not sure if it's considered a literary work or not, but I know it's extremely popular.
I think the writing is absolutely brilliant. I read it in its natural French version. I don't really like the English version because it gets simplified too much in translation, I think, where some of the beauty of the words is lost and some of the wording gets changed so they don't mean quite the same thing.
