How do you feel about dogs in clothes? And bags?

May 28, 2009 12:11pm CST
you see all these celebrities with their chihuahuas in there bags, what do you think? do you think it's cruelty? and putting them in clothes... is that right? Personally i think putting them in a bag is acceptable, maybe dogs get tired of walking around everywhere and walking them through the airport with millions of paparazzi wouldn't be suitable.. so dogs in bags is suitable if it gets excercise too, so not everyday allday in a bag. clothing however is just abit too far, i don't think the dog likes it tbh and they always look ridiculous

I really don't mind it. Sometimes it is hilarious for animals to be dressed up. (Yes even cats.) I mean of course it looks a little ridiculous. But you know to each his own. I put clothes on my cats because they are funny walking around with a scowl. XD

yeah we've all put something on our cat to make it look funny, ha! but i mean.. some people take it serious and actually take their pets out with them fully clothed.. i think it's ridiculous

silly little dogs like that are safer in bags in my opinion as the likelyhood of them getting trod on in the street is very high, i dont disagree with clothing if it is for a sencible reason, i have a short haired dog (will post a pic if i can)he gets cold when he goes out in the winter so he has a jacket to go on when he goes out to stop him getting too cold but i wouldnt dress him up just so he looked nice or was a fashion statement as i think that is cruel as it is restrictive to the dog cant put a pic it wont let me sorry

yeah i agree with you, a jacket.. okay, but when you see dogs with boots on and a hat and all that :S too far in my opinion.. aww what kind of dog have you got?

I find it degrading to the poor animal. Like chihuahuas need to be degraded further...

i have 2 small dog one is a dachshund/minpin mix who weighs about 3lbs he likes his bags he has little short legs that keeps him from keeping up with my rat terrier and i have a rat terrier (she stays cold most of the time and shivers so much) who love to wear clothes in fact she actually will go to her clothes box in the morning and pick out her own tee shirts! i think she looks so cute in them.
29 May 09
thats cute! post a picture? i think that it's okay for little dogs that are cold to put on a little tshirt, do you keep it on all day though? thanks for replying.

Stupid, gross and bad mannered! They are ANIMALS! for Goodness sake, why are we disturbed in our brains and try to make them crazy and dumb like a human? Come on, people, if somebody would pick you up and put you in a bag...or undress by force, or something like that, what would you think.... You would go crazy, like those stupid animals, I saw some gay dogs! Unnatural I tell you! Perverted and dumb humans!
29 May 09
I guess, you get gay people.. gay dogs.. whats wrong with that? are you implying that because gay dogs are unnatural you think that gay people are unnatural to?

You know something just because these celebrities are going crazy about their pet dogs, companies had begun manufacturing dog cloths and now you would find stores in big cities selling dog cloths and accessories at a high price. Now that's really incredible. After all companies do what markets tell them. you are right though, Dogs are just not comfortable wearing cloths and staying inside a bag. It's a torture to them. But who will explain to these celebrities.

Absolutely, I mean strange things are happening as a matter of fact. The world has become such that doing strange things is actually being seen as a style, and if that comes from a celebrity then what do you have to say. People will just go crazy about it. Anyway that's how life is and it will be.
29 May 09
yes i know, big companies sell dog clothing.. in new york they go crazy for it! you can pay big sums of money for some clothing too! and it's tiny!!! and as for explaining to celebrities, nothing goes into their mind.. i mean it's probably a phase and they'll get over it eventually, maybe not.. who knows, something else may come up soon... lizards in a bag maybe? haha who knows!

I agree dogs shouldn't be clothed, bags are alright when they are tied. Heck my stepmother was so crazy about her dog, she used to bring it in her purse out to eat with us. We would be at the table the waiter comes up and goes would you like to order and the dog barks, its like how do you hide that. I think dogs should be left on the ground how they where made. Carrying them and dressing them up only hampers them and messes with there mind. I don't think either should be done but some places i think you should pick up your dog encase of emergency's.
29 May 09
I agree, but if the dog has been put in a bag and clothes from the moment it was born wouldn't the dog know any better? How would it mess with it's mind? I'm not saying i agree with clothing and bags but i don't think it would mess with it's mind if it didn't know any better. thanks for replying.

I think putting on clothings on the chihuahuas and keep them inside the bags sounds quite alright. However, they shouldn't be kept in that position for too long period or the whole day. Dogs have their fur to keep them warm, adding on the clothings will make their temperature rise, moreover, to wrap them with a bag will make them hot. I don't think they will feel comfortable in there, my personally view.
29 May 09
Totally agree, I think that you should be able to dress your dog up for special occasions for the comedy and fashion values but not as a permanent thing! The dog's owner makes an effort going to events so the dog should to!

I think it is awful when people treat their dog like a little doll. It seem pretty cruel and degrading to play dress up with your dog. Dogs already have their own natural clothing....fur. It is absolutely ridiculous, mean, and wrong to dress your dog up as a fashion statement. The poor things look so restricted and uncomfortable. My dog doesn't have to worry about that...lol The carrier bags are another story. Sometimes they are neccessary for a small breed dog. I don't think it's right for them to be cooped up at all times but when travelling and such....they are useful.
29 May 09
thanks for replying, i understand where you're coming from.. but do you not think that dogs could do with at least a jacket or something to protect their belly when it's really cold outside?

I often think these dogs have a better life then some people in the world... Dogs don't belong in bags and stuff.. I think it's ridiculous.

I agree with you, have you seen Paris Hiltons dogs? She has a whole house for them, which is like 10 times bigger than the house i live in at the moment! ha..

They look cute but they're being objectified...used only as accessories. I just hoe they're really being taken cared of by their owners and not just props for the paparazzis!
29 May 09
it's a shame but some people actually do just get a dog and dress it up for paparazzis!! thanks for replying.

I think that celebrities go a little too far with all the clothes. Bags are fine, but spending more on a dog's wardrode than you would on your own clothes is ridiculous. Celebrities sometimes consider dogs as fashion items like a necklace or a pair of shoes rather than an actual companion.
29 May 09
Yeah they certainly do go too far and miss the concept of even having a dog.. carry them round as if they was a bag.. not in the bag.

I think its sooo rediculous when i see small animals in purses and bags or dressed up in a little outfit. i own siberian huskies and although they are big i would never put clothes on them (and they do make them for large dogs too) it just looks stupid.
29 May 09
aw yes i agree with you, i have a siberian huskie too, and i couldn't ever imagine her in clothes.. maybe a little crystal pink necklace but nothing like paris' dog... versace suit and all sorts.. haha, never! i don't think she'd even let me put it on her nevermind wear it.

I personally think both things are wrong. Dogs shouldn't be carried around in bags. Maybe if their tired and all. But not everytime their out of the house. That just makes them lazy. Now the clothes bit is way way way too much. Maybe once a year for Halloween I might look away from it. But I see those tiny dogs in purses AND wearing clothes. It's animal cruelty. It's gotta be. Well thats just my opinion and all.
29 May 09
thanks for taking the time to reply, your opinion is good.. i think it's cruelty too, although i'd put my dog in a bag if it was little enough and was tired.. not all the time though, i enjoy exercising my dog it gives me exercise too!

I think that both ways are okay. I have done both with our dog, well the older one anyway (the younger one is only weeks old). We put sweaters and shirts on our chihuahua in the colder months because some breeds, especially the breed of our dog get cold very easily. In fact our dog lays on the vents that are on the floor when the heat comes on. And as far as carrying a dog in a bag, I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I think its the funniest thing ever. A little dog in a dress does look really cute but its just not ethical. A dog carrier is fine. I like how the poke there little heads out of them :]

Dogs on the bag is a good idea but dogs with those clothes is a no no. Dog is sensitive on there hair and sneeze a lot when they smell something not good. Maybe a eye glasses would be nicer than clothing in terms of exposing your dogs in public.

It's definitely weird that's for sure. I don't really know what to think about it exactly. It's weird that we can take an animal like a dog and domesticate it or make it do whatever we want for our own pleasure. Have you ever though about how dogs or pets survived before they became pets? What they were like in the wild? It's all kind of strange how pets came to be. We just kind of force them into what we want them to do.

Hi simon...I think what you're describing is that dogs have become just another accessory - not a pet or man's best friend. So as an accessory it just seems fitting to have them in bags or clothes, right? I don't think the dogs like it either - they'd rather be out and about but that's not for you or I to say since we're not their owners.

I don't see anything wrong for dogs wearing clothes as long as they're dressed approriately. Meaning, coat in winter and t shirt during summer time. Small dogs can be placed in bags howvere, I don't think bigger dogs are advisable to be placed inside the dog bag.
29 May 09
yeah, i get your drift but i just don't see why a dog needs a tshirt on in summer !! it would be hot enough with all that skin and fur on so an extra layer of clothing is just gonna make it hotter.
