Discussions in Violation

I quite enjoy my time on myLot. There are a lot of good discussions. There are tons of great people. The past couple of days, though, it seems like many of the discussions are advertisements or recruiting or just in violation of the guidelines! I feel like I am spending half of my time on myLot reporting these discussions. Im getting quite frustrated with it! In fact, I just had someone leave the same spamming comment on one of my old discussions twice! I reported both of them, but it makes it even more frustrating that they did it twice on the same post! Have you seen an increase in violations? Do you take the time to report them when you find them?

Thank you for this post, derlila! And to mys and others who responded. I didn't really understand the importance until now. Honestly, I didn't think about it enough, because I didn't feel qualified, as a newbie, to make that kind of judgment call. I worry that I will report something based on an incorrect assumption. I also have noticed that some long time lotters post things that are in violation of the rules and then get upset because they were reported and deleted. I understand some of their reasons, but if they don't play by the rules, I don't know how newer ones are going to respect them. I think some of the rules should be clarified or not necessarily relaxed but if a special request is made to admininstration to post a special request, it might help. Or, special requests are made only after a myLotter has reached a certain status. And on the matter of rules. I notice that many skirt the rules about profanity. Putting two vowels in or a couple of ** where the letters would be. It may not be a direct violation, but I think it is toeing the line. See why I don't feel confident?

Oh, I agree with you, that no one who has been here a long time and knows the rules should be upset that they got an obvious violation reported. However,I have seen a lot of chat on the Lot lately, claiming that someone or a group of someones are trolls because their discussion or comments were deleted. Maybe the deletions happened because someone honestly felt they violated the rules. They saw bitter words flying and figured "flame war" and "violation" and reported it. From the sound of the discussions, the posters feel vicitimized and they feel someone who has had a disagreement with them is responsible. Picking on them deliberately. Maybe, though, it was simply a responsible myLotter, just cleaning house.

There is no reason for the long time members to get upset if they did something against the rules. The rules dont change just because you have been here for a long time! If you arent comfortable reporting something, because you arent sure, dont do it. But if you do see something that you know is a violation, please report it. It really does help everyone. Sometimes I see things that are questionable or I am not 100% certain, so I check back to the guidelines before I do anything. If you arent comfortable reporting something - like the profanity thing - but feel like it is offensive, leave a negative rating. That will also affect the person and their earnings. It isnt fair to have those who arent following the rules earn money that should be going to others! I have slowly built on my knowledge of the guidelines. I try to look at them frequently to learn something new. The more I learn, the better I can help keep myLot (and my own earnings!) going.

Ah, that makes more sense now. There is definitely a little bit of room for intrepretation because of the 'offensive' part of the guidelines. Different people see different things as offensive. You do make a very good point!

Yes, it is definitely an eye-sore seeing all these spammers trying to promote their referral links. I get especially fed up when trying to look for new discussions and most of them are just spams. I love to help new users get themselves acquainted to mylot and will try to answer the best I can. And it's not helping; sometimes I see the same type of discussions over and over again seemingly from the same user. Same or not, I still see it as spam. Not all newbies are like that though, some are very honest, sincere and can truly feel the spirit of mylot. Even though they are pointed out to the FAQs, some spammers just make it a point to keep asking the same questions that I feel they already know. Cheap tactic, I'd say. However, I welcome those mylot members whom are new and wanting to participate sincerely. Hope these phishing will stop. I know it's hard but we'll die trying..

I saw the same discussion with that suggestion and agree that it is a great idea and maybe it could help to avoid a huge part of the deletions here. It could simplify things for everyone, users and myLot staff, if osmething like that was implemented. I too Zed welcome those new users who really want to know how things work here and become a part of it. They bring a breath of fresh air

You are right, mysd. Actually come to think of it, it's not hard to follow the guidelines.... In any given situation, there will always be 1,000 interpretations of what an offensive discussion is. But I'm so clear on referral links. I see some links growing like cherubs and thinking those are like bees to flowers. Pardon me tonight I am a little sheepish..

I missed that discussion, but it would be a great idea. I like to see new users who want to be here for the right reasons, too. I havent actually been here that long (I just like it so I am constantly here! ). One of the reasons I decided to stick around was because there are so many people who are great to everyone, especially the new users.

I don't report, I just don't respond. If no one responds, they will stop posting. It is very simple and stress free... I rather pay attention on good discussions not the bad ones.... Take care...

I'm with you Pola. If no one responds they will leave. These people are cheats or attention seekers....report them by all means if you wish but DO NOT RESPOND. They will not get the attention and they will not get paid. Easy and stress free as Pola says.

However, there are other people who will respond. You simply not responding doesnt solve anything! I would rather pay attention to the good ones as well. That is why it is so important to get rid of the bad ones!

Compared to a year ago there are many many more but compared to a month ago they seem the same amount. I feel that those spammers are the same ones who come back time after time. I report anything I see and every few hours I go to the money intersts and report there too, sometimes whole pages of garbage It is time consuming but it is for the benefit of everyone. Sad that some don't understand this

You are definately not alone! I know of several (and you can see them for yourself on discussions like this one)who are reporting and then there are others that do but don't wish to say that they do and that's fine. We shall keep it clean if we all keep reporting them because myLot staff do get to them all eventually. Great avatar Tones in with blue too!

Indeed there are probably many, many more who are reporting than we can ever realise. The 15 or more that you know added to the 15 or more that I know just goes to show that many users do care about myLot and keeping it the way it was meant to be. Some are more open about it and others are not but as long as together things do get put right that's what matters!

I havent been here quite a month yet. Perhaps I have just gotten more familiar with the guidelines this past month so I am seeing more and more discussions that arent in compliance. I try to take the time to report everything I see as well. Sometimes I want to take the 'money earning' interests off my list because there are so many of them in those topics! I think if everyone reported the violations, then everyone would have to report less frequently! I am glad that I am not the only one that is doing this, though! Sometimes it seems like I am!

I am a new commer to mylot and I too like my time in here. I respond to good discussions only and you are right there aren't really any good discussions posted lately. There are a few people who do post interesting discussions but the majority are useless. They should know that such discussions are of no use as they wont get paid and can be removed from mylot. I didn't report anyone of them yet but I think the next time I see such a topic, I will.

There have been some good discussions lately, but most of them seem to be garbage! I do hope that more people figure out soon that they cant come here, leave garbage and expect to get paid for it. I am sure some of them will go onto other sites and say that myLot is a scam because they didnt get paid. But that is what they get for not following the rules! If you do notice discussions that are violations, reporting them really does help. MyLot does respond and get rid of those discussions and responses. They cant go through them all themselves because there are too many. So by reporting them, we are helping to keep myLot what it should be - and making sure that we can continue to earn from the good discussions! Welcome to MyLot!

Because there are so many on Mylot, it's hard to keep up with what has been said and what hasn't been asked. Let Mylot do their job, and have fun writing in.

It really is hard to keep up with what is being said on MyLot! That is why it is so important that we help them out! If everyone reports things as they see them happening, it will be much easier to keep myLot a fun community for everyone. The second and third points in the guidelines are: Help us out and report trolls, flame wars, and troublemakers by sending an abuse report to myLot. Help out when you can. The myLot staff tries to monitor the site constantly, but we also need your eyes and ears to catch problems when they arise and report abusive behavior. That is how important it is that we help out!

I agree completely that we have all been asked to help - after all, myLot admin took the time to write that down :) - and people should be willing to do it to whatever degree that they are comfortable. Something that I think is really important for people to remember is that, when a discussion is reported or escalated for myLot's attention, it makes no sense to then create NEW discussions that "call out" the member who has been escalated. Posting publicly to tell another member that they will be continuously reported or that a concerted effort will be made to get them removed from the site amounts to harassment or threatening and that TOO is a violation of myLot's guidelines and TOS. Bringing something to the forefront for attention is all that is needed... perpetuating the negativity has no value. There is a lot of good that comes from people taking responsibility for the quality of the discussions here... part of that good is behaving in the same manner that we expect from others. "Do as I say but not as I do" isn't a productive way to go :)

I guess I will have to print out the rules, so I can remember them. But, being a "newbie", I really haven't seen any discussion yet that I was offended by - in language or subject. I don't really read all of them, which is probably why I haven't see anything wrong yet. I usually look for the headline or topic of discussion, and respond to those I want. I don't look at how others respond...am I wrong in not doing that? Let me know. Again, as I said, I am a newbie. So any help is appreciated. What I don't like in any discussion room, is others responding with negativity against the original writer because of their opinion. We all have our own opinions, and we should respect them. That makes for a harmonious website.

I will also report spammers. I've done this several times. If they just bother me one time I may not but if it is twice or more then I certainly will report them. As for others that break the guidelines I don't report them. This is a site for socializing as much as anything else. Sometimes emotions run high and we just need someone to talk to. Many of us and I'm one of them are alone 90 percent or more of the time and the friends we have here are the only ones we have to talk to. I excuse times when it is a case as this. I'm human and have feelings after all... I know how I would feel if I needed to really talk and get out what was on my mind and if someone reported my discussion and got it out then I would be upset. When emotions are running high we don't always remember to add that question to make it a discussion, others reply anyway and it makes it a discussion reguardless of how it came about. There are a few lately that have been deleted that was really not necessary to have them deleted as they turned out to be highly talked about threaded discussions and that is what we are about here. So I pick and choose my battles.

I definitely agree! For the most part, I report the spammers. The only other one that really gets under my skin (and Im not sure why) is the 'how much did you earn on myLot' discussions. I agree that there are times that discussions have been deleted but shouldnt have been. You are absolutely right, just because there isnt a question at the end doesnt mean that it cant be discussed!

I've been here for three years and in that time have seen my share of those mylotters, usually newbies chock full of violations especially with referral links to some money making scheme and yes I do report them..also the plagiarizers and seen my share of them as well so yes, report them as well. I also report those who only leave a one word response to no matter what the discussion is about, like "cool" "good" and will notice the member does that in all his/her responses--but no, the violators of the guidelines are no more or less over the years

I guess I shouldnt just write 'I agree'! Good thing I wasnt going to! I appreciate your observations. At least I know what I can continue to expect in the future! Good thing there are so many amazing people around here to still make it worth it!

I just relax and enjoy! Never let another discussion bother your day. So what if they are in violation, Who cares? Even myLot is easy with it. I'm not about to let something as small as someone elses discussion bother my Day! I'd not even dream about reporting a violation. I can see the humor in it. Why let it bother you?

I definitely agree with mysd. Mylot is not easy with the violations! They definitely make an effort to delete those discussions and comments. But there are so many that are posted everyday that it is impossible for them to monitor every single discussion and response! For the most part, the discussions in violation dont bother me. It just gets frustrating when there are so many. If everyone took the time to report them, maybe there would be less so it would be easier to find the discussions that we are all here for!

Wow barehugs I'm surprised at you and have to agree with mysdianait also---the most offensive thing I see here at MyLot is outright plagiarism where certain members either start discussions or reply to them without ONE word being their own but plagiarized from other sites which everywhere across the board is illegal. I once even had one of my discussions lifted and plagiarized word for word and it was a very serious topic about a very sensitive issue I was going through at the time--someone pointed it out to me and the copycat plagiarizer was reported and that copy was deleted. No I see no humor in people who do such violations---why do you think people sue someone if their copyrighted work is plagiarized?

As far as the guide lines go on here it seems a lot of people break those or dont even read them and usually the only people who moan about the guide lines are the ones who have broke the rules and got reported or the ones who want to break the rule and dont.I am on mylot to have fun like most other people so as long as im having fun and not breaking rules i do not care what anyone else is up to.I mean no one has got to come on here if they dont want to and mylot are thje ones who at the end of the day read ALL the discussions placed on here.So at the end of the day mylot will delete their posts,so why worry.Life is too short to be worrying what everyone else is doing.

Im not complaining about what the guidelines are. I think they are there for a good reason. It just bothers me how many people are constantly breaking them! There are people who have never read them. Many times new members dont know what the guidelines are or that they are breaking them. A gentle reminder definitely helps the situation! Pointing them in the right direction definitely helps prevent them from doing it in the future. But the guidelines still need to be followed. There is a reason they exist! Do you really think it is possible for myLot to read every single discussion and every single response each day? I cant even begin to imagine how many that is! MyLot even asks us to help them by reporting any abuse or violations. It is the second and third points of the guidelines. That is how important it really is. In order to keep myLot going, we need to help them. It is for our own benefit that we report the abuse!

I want to comment regarding posting the same message twice in the same discussion. I have done that before in on of the previous post..it's merely unintentional because sometimes internet really not working fine. And it will not also say or ask for the tag so I assume that it's not posted yet then I posted it again then it turns out that there! are my post

I agree - I have done the same thing before. And then I put a note on the second one mentioning it. The instance that I am referring to, the person posted a 'response' trying to get me to go to a great online store for cheap stuff. about 2 hours later, they did it again. It was obvious that wasnt what happened. Great point, though. Thanks!
