Imagine yourself running. Now imagine yourself running with a heavy back pack. Now imagine yourself running with a heavy back pack while carrying a child. You're going to get hot as hell, and you'll need to cool down or you'll make yourself pass out. This is probably the problem with you computer - it's over-burdened. Higher graphics means more processing, and if you have a graphics card that isn't up to the job, it makes your computer work that much harder.
Set your graphics level in the game as low as you can get it. Disable all the special effects. Go into your task manager and delete all your unnecessary processes that you have working in the background before you play the game. Make sure the inside of your laptop is free of dust (use a vacuum or an aerosol can used for cleaning your keyboard to suck or blow the dust out), and always make sure it's in an area with good ventilation. It helps also to get a lap pad with a fan in it, so that it can blow cool air onto your computer during game play.
The less your computer has to do while you're playing the game, the better it will perform.

Overheating in laptops are caused when there is no good ventilation available.
This happens when laptop is kept on for a very long time.
Proper cleaning will surely help as dust is one of the main reason behind it.
There are other solutions too eg. there is a laptop cooling device designed by a company called belkin, do check it out and let me know.
Thanks and take care.

My laptop also has the overheating problem. Consequently, the heat caused my motherboard some failure which result in hard disk bad sector. I did use a software to monitor my hard disk health and temperature. I noticed my hard disk health is getting worse if the overheating problem persists. So, i bought a cooling pad for my laptop to assist in dissipating the heat. I noticed that the hard disk temperature is lower than before. Perhaps, you can try to use a cooling pad to see what is the outcome.

First of all when you use your lap top be sure it is sitting on a hard surface. Most of them pull the cooling air in from the bottom and if they are sitting in your lap, on the carpet or bed they can't pull the air in. If you want to use it while you are sitting in the recliner then get you something flat you can lay in your lap and then sit the lap top on top of it. A small piece of thin plywood a little larger than the computer works real good.

You can raise your laptop off the desk to allow more air circulation - there are cradles for this, but yiu can easily improvise. Just be sure not to block the air intake vents. Most accessory stores have cheap fans designed for cooling laptops: often they do not need to be installed: they are just a cradle the computer sits in, with fans installed to keep the temperature down.

How old is your laptop? I had one that was turning itself out and my problem was the battery the fan was not working all the time and finally on day didn't turn on at all which really frustrated me. So I'm lucky that a friend of mine that is and I.T has a laptop to give me.

Use the vacuum cleaner to take out the dust that is inside, better solution would be cleaning it with the compressor, but don't use to strong compressor or you might damage the hardware inside the laptop. If you don't want to do the things I've mentioned you can put the laptop on something higher than the surface your laptop is. For example, put it on the book, but it has to be angled and air holes shouldn't be covered. You can also buy USB laptop cooler. Happy mylotting and I hope I will be able to help you!

Hey rohit96, I have the same problem with my laptop too. It's irritating isn't it? I'm glad that you came up with this discussion cause I need help in this as well. I get easily fed up when it happens. Especially when I've typed a long discussion and my laptop suddenly turns off. Such a big frustration! I hope we both will find a solution to this case. I absolutely can't stand it anymore. LOL. Happy mylotting ;D

WEll, I have had that problem only once, because after it did that, I got really worried so I did this:
First, I went to a store to buy a dust cleaner, and a laptop fan.
I used the dust cleaner tblow out all the dust in the laptop, and then I just installed the laptop fan onto the laptop, and it never again heat up again and turned off.
