OMG Good discussion!!!!! I love Jack Nicholson, he is an amazing actor. He has a range that few others come anywhere close to, however, I think that Heath Ledger blew him away as the Joker. I don't know if it was simple the way the new Joker was written, or if its just the whole tone of the movie, but Heath did an amazing, spectacular job as the Joker. We will never see a better written or acted Joker and it makes me so so sad!

Heath by far. this is some of the best acting that ive ever seen, he just immerses himself into scary madness in a way thats not over the top, his verbalization of the character stays EXACTLY the same throughout the entire movie except of course when he gets angry but still the vocalization of the anger is the same, and the anger was what really made me step back and say "whoa this guy is in a whole different class above Jack" because it was so intimidating and scary,,,,,, Heath portrayed a deranged criminal who almost took dowm gotham and played extremley cunning psychological games, where as Jack played a former mobster turned clown madman.....I love Jack but in this role there is no comparison in my opinion

Heath for me too, I've never found Batman films scary until this last one. Heath was brilliant and I had to think twice about letting my kids watch it.

I think it would be unfair to compare the two because the tones of the two movies are very very different. The first batman movie was geared to children and was to have the comic book feeling. It was supposed to almost be cartoonist with the super hero being well super. On the other hand the newer batman movies are geared to more of an adult crowd with the feeling that this could actually be true people in real times. So I think that both actors are very good and played the roles they were asked to very well. The type of Joker they played fit the type of movie they were in.

Definitely Heath. But, we're almost comparing apples and oranges here because one movie is far more dark and gritty than the other. The Dark Knight is way darker in both story and appearance than the one with Jack. It's for that reason that Heath's Joker is and has to be far more intense than that of Nicholson's and also why it's almost an unequal comparison. And, we expect that type of character from Jack Nicholson because he's played it so many times. I have no doubt that Jack could have played The Dark Knight's Joker as well if not better than Heath did. But, we didn't really know if Heath could pull it off because he's not known for those types of roles. So, that's why I think his Joker is better.

I definitely go for Heath Ledger. Jack Nicholson's Joker is good but comes of weak when trying to portray a criminal psychopath with a penchant for funny lines. The character seems to come off as a clown with poor corny jokes. Heath's joker is more sinister and definitely more evil. He may not be funnier that the Riddler in Batman and Robin but he is definitely rich in dark humor.
