GETTING READY FOR FRESH VEGGIES TO COME IN. I always put quite abit of things in my freezae every year. last week i thought i'd be smart & go on & get my chest freezer defrosted. think about this, i am 5 foot tall & i have to pratically stand on my head to clean the bottom of the freezer out. oh yeah , forgot to mention i'm a 5 foot fat person. my son told me one time when i was getting him something out of the freezer, mom if u fell in we wouldn't find u for days, such great support there, lol. anyway i use a hair dryer to get the ice off the sides. it works great. of course this time i burnt my hair dryer up. thank goodness , i don't have to do this for another year. ain't life great??

Sorry about your hair dryer getting burnt up but the big job is done. You mentioned that you could have fallen into the freezer. And it reminded me of something that happend in supermarket about 20 years ago. I went to town for the day and my last stop was at a supermarket.
One minute I am on tippy toe reaching for greasprof paper that was on a shelf ABOVE the freezer and I slipped and ended up inside the big supermarket deep freezer. This was not good. Especially as I was wearing a straight skirt. The skirt was around my butt and I was eyeballing the rear end of a huge turkey, and had hit my head on a frozen ham.
I tried to get out modestly but could not manage it so then I had to give a huge yell and called out the name of a son. I forget which one was with me that day.. A crowd gathered and people were looking at me in amazement. hell, did they think that I climbed in on purpose? They just stood there and watched.
My son helped me out and as I was dripping puddles of water everywhere we decided to check out quickly and head back to the farm. I was so cold.
3 hours later we arrived at the farm and my husband was asking why I did not take advantage of being in town to do a big shop. I told him that I had fallen into a freezer and he gave ne an old fashioned look - trying to decide if it was true or I was kidding. I later heard him questioning the son and all he could keep saying was that he was glad that I wasn't there. Not even one question about whether I was hurt or not. Just glas that he was not there to haul me out of the freezer! Thaks for the memory!

All my life I walk unknowingly where angels fear to tread. I just attract things to happen. I don't do any thing - it just happens. From I was a child. Look at me a few days ago rushing into church and sitting beside the PM.? I laughed too so please read it again and laugh. And thanks the the BR. (also the memories) .

Bwahahahaa! I can empathise, AL ... I remember having to defrost our chest freezer, and I'm only 5'2", so there was always a bit of a worry about toppling in! The fridge we have now is a two-door jobbie, with the freezer on the left hand side - so I no longer have to rummage around in the bottom for those odd, loose peas. Life is so much easier!

THANKS , I told my friend if there had been a caroonist around when i was pratically standing on my head in that freezer he would have made the front page of the paper..Glad you have the kind u do now & don't have to chase the peas.

My mum always had several mops around the house ,one was to wash the floor, another to clean out cupboards, and one for the bath so she did not have to bend. You should get one for the chest freezer .I am also height challenged, with short arms,so the mop idea really saved my life, try it.

O.K. CUPID, I told u he was already spoken for. i'm not looking that's for sure. now when ms. af calls i may have to get it in high gear if my high gear still works, very doubtful. i forgot to put in my discussion that i had the plug in my pocket, dropped the @##$%%^ thing out of my pocket & had to go back & stand on my head again to hunt the %$$$#$% thing after taking things out of the freezer again. i have really got it all together.

You are funny, friend!!! How about using a mop? A freezer is NOT what I´d choose as a sarcophagus
I use the mop for the craziest things. That´s how I clean the ceiling too (specially kitchen´s)There are those paper towel like papers, very clean. You can recycle them for the floor later.
Big hug!!!

LOL! I definitely need to defrost my freezer as well. Thankfully it wont be as comical as your experience! I just have a little one. There is a top part and a drawer on the bottom. That way nothing can get lost at the bottom! Im only 5'2" otherwise I would be in the same situation as you!
I actually need to go buy a hairdryer, too. We always used to use the roommate's hair dryer. But now she is gone and I dont own one! Anyone want to lend me one? lol

I am glad you did not fall in. I am just like you. We looked at freezers and I talked my husband into an upright for the very reason of not being able to clean it out. Glad it is done!!

I remember having to defrost the freezer too. That was a real chore and a mess, at that. I now have a self defrosting freezer, thank God. No more using the hair dryer or boiling water in a pan to sit inside of it either. I hope the next year goes slow for you in that aspect.

That's why I don't have a chest freezer.....I am 5'2" tall! LOL.....you silly girl! Be careful with what you are doing! We would all come looking for you in a couple of days but that would be too late! Just make sure you notify your son that you will be "going in"!

I haven't had to thaw out my freezer in a long long time but when hubby and I were renting, we had to do it every summer. Maybe it's because of the type of refrigerator/freezer we bought? I don't know but I love it! lol Gotta love them kids, don't we? I call my mom ole mother hubbard all the time and she acts like she's about to pick up something and throw it at me but never does. lol

Oh back in my younger days I couldn't say boo to my mother or I'd get my head knocked off of my shoulders!! That's no lie either. Dad and I got into a few altercations and he nearly broke my arm one time and gave me two black eyes another time. Things weren't always like good like now. Even still, my parents and I didn't get along from the time I was 13 years old until I was 21, the night before I got married the first time. Then we got along really well for a good while then all of the sudden she changed and became mean towards me again and I didn't know what I had done to deserve such treatment and it went on for years! One moment she'd treat me decent and the next it was like she couldn't care less if I was alive or not. The last time she was nasty towards me she made a huge stink in my house and cause a hell of an argument and another one after that and she threw my past in hubby's face KNOWING full well that it was not my fault because I was acting out because of what had happened to me when I was 13. I had had enough and talked to my dad the next day and told him that I've had enough of her sh!t and her throwing my past in my face through hubby and that if she does it again, I'm finished and she'll be on her f'ing own. From then on, which was about 2 or 3 years ago, she's been treating me like I'm something really special. Dad must've had a good talk with her for she really changed her stripes then. Then she had the stroke and boy! I must be made of angel dust or something. I love my mom very much and will do anything for her but I don't trust her with my feelings because she's hurt me so badly so many times before that I can't trust her like I'd like to.

HI CATS, you are to be admired even more than i already do for being the kind person u are & looking after your parents like u do after the way u were treated as a child & on up. I can certainly relate to what u are saying. MY PARENTS & i never got along. My mother was very much like yours. She never thought I had a bit of sense. She was a very controlling person but she couldn't control me especially after i got grown. it's sad, i had friends that had such good mothers & i envied them of that. U did the righr thing by giving her an ultamatum. Don't u wonder sometimes what she thinks about the way she treated u as good as u are to her now. NO matter how bad mine acted she would never say she was sorry. She would go buy u something but somehow that didn't get it w/me. U ARE A VERY GOOD PERSON TO DO WHAT U DO FOR THEM.

So you are using a hair dryer to get ice off on the sides. Ohhh, you've given a good tip here. And yes, it will really burn up the hair dryer if you did not control the use. You can't use it through and through. You have to give some rest to dryer. I also did burn my hairdryer when I used it to dry my wet documents. I did not give it a rest and it was too late for me to realize that I've abused it and it smelled not good anymore. I did burn it!

it doesn't take anytime to defrost it using the hair dryer. just go around the edges & slip a knife behind the ice & it pops right off. i know a little about hair dryers i was a beautician for 47 years.. don't guess i learned what i needed to about them. thanks for your response.

Bless your heart. Yes, life is great! I've done things like this, myself. I never would have thought to use a blow dryer to defrost my freezer, though. I don't want to burn mine up, though, lol. I love fresh vegetables, myself, and I bet you're going to have some good ones. Kathy.

u laugh all u want to, kathy. it wasn't funny at the time but i have this picture in my mind of how i would have looked to anyone if they had come up & saw me & i get hysterical. my sons tease me all the time about being so short & i love it. when they were young they couldn't wait till they got as tall as i was. i told them when they did they hadn't done too much, lol. back to the freezer that is the quickest easiest way to defrost one. i'm sorry i burnt my dryer up but i didn't hardly ever use it anyway. i took it to the rehab place to work on my friend's hair & tried to turn it on & it wouldn't work. it will be all right, they still sell them. i'm glad i made u smile, hope i did alot of people. laughter is good medicine for all of us. jo
