Do you still have a diary?

I used to have a diary when I was in elementary because our GMRC (good manners and right conduct) teacher required us to have one. On that diary usually I write only the best things that happened in my life because I don't like the fact that my teacher checks our diary each week and I don't want him to know the highly personal accounts in my life. Since then I kept a diary for myself and I always bury it under my closet so that my little brother won't read it . Sometimes I will allow my closest friends to read it hehe.. But usually I get tired of writing manually and when blogs became the hype I created my own personal blog (which is under my Friendster account) and I love posting things on my blog (usually about my summer vacations and friends/family bondings) despite that my friends/family can read it. So the question is, do you still have a diary? Or do you prefer to have a personal blog?

Hi, I've never really kept a diary and I use blogs as promotional tools for my website but have discovered I actually quite enjoy writing about different things. I am considering keeping a blog for my thoughts, feelings and views but feel a little uncomfortable being exposed for everyone to read. I do love helping people out and although feeling uncomfortable, my thoughts & experiences may be of benefit to others so I may start one. Have fun Mrsl x x

It's funny you say that because when I was younger and I started my first blog I was afraid that other people would see it. I was so uncomfortable with writing my thoughts. Eventually I started writing in it though and I got addicted to reading and commenting on other people's entries. Now it doesn't bother me so much but I think it might if I found out someone I didn't like that I knew found it. It's one thing when strangers are reading it because they don't know you but sometimes if you get a little too personal people you know might make judgments. For now I don't worry about that though lol. I think it's a good thing to write about issues because it can help other people. Sometimes we struggle through things alone thinking that no one else would understand what we are going through. We feel alone but with blogs people realize that they aren't as alone as they think. I think it can be therapeutic in a way because you get to connect with people who've gone through similar experiences and can help each other through it.

Having a diary is a good thing. We tend to forget things that happened to us in the past but through a diary, we can read it again and again and in the future, we may be shocked and say, "oh.. have I really done this??". I do keep a diary for me to put down significant events on my life so I can remember things in the future. I advice you to have one also!

yea, it's really cool because you can go back, read, and see how much you've changed over the years. I usually write about negative things (which is bad) because I don't want to ever forget the mistakes that I've made, I want to learn from them and make the right decisions for myself.

yeah ,i almost keep a dairy all the time ,and it's really interesting to read diary of the past ,but i used to "write " than "type " but now it seemed having a blog is more popular and easy ,but they give different feelings, reading a hand-writing diary just like watch a vivid movie ,and your former experience all comes flooding back to you. have a try ,just keep a hand-writng diary and have a try !

I do not have a diary at all. I would very much like to have one though. I feel I have not sufficient time and the instinct to maintain a diary.

I actually have both. Sometimes I write in my paper diary is I don't feel like putting the computer on. I like writing on the computer though because it's faster and I can type up everything as soon as it comes to my head so it flows nicely. I usually write a lot so my hands start hurting if I write it out. I also have a word file on my computer where I write all of my personal stuff that I don't want to put on my blog or diary. I actually don't write about happy things much even though I should. My diary is used to get things off of my chest or to organize my thoughts if I have things going on in my life that I need to make sense of. It helps me to gain perspective on my situation. I write in it usually when I'm sad or angry. I think that I should write in it when I'm happy as well though because I should be able to remember all my good as well as bad memories. I can't say I prefer one over the other. I think both are good in their own ways. Which one I use depends on the mood that I'm in and which one is more convenient at the time. I don't think anyone is too old to have a diary.

Well Cecille, I never had a personal diary. I was always afraid if someone would read them. I think in my life there is only 3 or 4 days that I wrote something in diary. But then I would feel lazy and I wouldn't write anything at all. Now your posts made me wonder, if I had written my daily life in the diary, I would be very happy reading them now. Now, I have to go totally with my memories to remember my past life. I hope you feel happy reading your past isn't it. I wonder why your teacher required compulsory for you to have the diary. He can be right till the extent that you make the daily diary, but I think it is definitely wrong when he requires to check the writings of diary as well. So I don't really have a diary as well as my personal blog. Though I write articles sometimes, that reflects the feelings of my actual life... And why do you look so deserted in that profile picture. You look some sort of introvert person. happy mylotting...

I prefer keeping a diary i had one which got lost in that i had many of my personal things, but now i am making a diary again in that i have also written the best things that happend in my life and what i think and dream of i will also definetly show that to someone very close to me but if i feel like to do so, otherwise most of your time many of your personal things are not worth to be told to anyone so i will keep it with me till i die.I dont like blog because if i am not with internet then i will suffer to read it when i have my diary i can open it and read anytime and it makes us feel special sometimes.Thats why i still keep a diary and will always keep it.

I don't have a diary or a personal blog. I feel that it is dangerous to write personal stuff about yourself because the wrong people might read it.

I used to have a regular diary they I kept. I use livejournal.com now. That way if I don't want someone to read it they can't unless they have my password. I can also choose whether or not friends can read it.

Yes, my mother and my grandmother both taught me to journal when I was pretty young. Not as a requirement but more like a healthy way to explore emotions, thoughts, daydreams, expression, etc. Through middle school and high school I often vented about things that made me angry or sad, since the hormones were absolutely raging... and I also wrote about my dreams, nightmares, daydreams and everyday things. Once I got to college, I found a new form of journaling; rather than writing in strict prose about what happened each day, I didn't restrict myself to daily writing. I wrote when I felt like it, and I didn't reserve my entries for just prose. Sometimes they are prose, but often they are poems, heavy with multiple meanings and imagery and sensory perceptions. It became a meditative, soul-connecting way for me to express myself. And if I choose to, I can share my favorite entries without having to explain what they mean to anyone else.

I had a diary when I was in college and I wrote in it everyday, telling my diary how I feel, what I did and what I think, it was my friend, a confident which was always having patience with me. But then I found good friends and I started sharing my thoughts with them so gradually I stopped writing in the diary. I think when we get someone we can talk to, share our secrets and a friend then we feel more attached to them than the diary. I have a blog in which I write so much on many subjects and I ask people how they feel and what they think about it, You can also check it out, it is http://medsopinions.blogspot.com/

Oh yes!!! I have always maintained my personal diaries and have always kept them in highly secluded places where no one else but me could read them. Previously I used to write anythin and everything in my diaries. Now I just write anything that makes me happy or inspires me... so wheneveri feel low or depressed I just go back to my diary and flip through those precious pages filled with positive thoughts. Needless to say, it revives my mood like nothing else can!!

oh! i have never maintained a diary till date because of two reasons - 1. i feel tooooooo lazy to enter my daily posts 2. my parents take the liberty to ppep into any of my writings - so i avoid penning things down. I have started blogging lately and i love that because my parents dont enjoy reading things on the net LOL :)

Hi,i used to write diary when i was in middle school ,the first reason is my teacher ordered us to do so, and this diary i called public diary ,i just written something insignificance.the second reason is i don't want to tell my feeling so i kept a private diary for myself.I told my diary what i don't quite agreed with, what made me depressed and even the guy i liked. When i went to college ,i found many good friends,so i just share my taste with them. And now ,i still have a diary ,it's used for keeping my trivial expenses,it's useful then.
