I used to dream of becoming an airhostess when I was growing up, but somehow didnt pursue it full heartedly. Finally one day I got all serious and attended an interview. It was one of the worst I have been to - a long queue and a longer wait - over 4-5 hours just sitting in a queue outside the office, not even some drinking water arrangements. Finally it was my turn. I had started the day with some lipstick and light eyeliner, wasnt into heavy make up. By the evening I guess my lipstick had faded too, and I faced the first question of what I did for a living - I was an independent distributor of Oriflame cosmetics. To my astonishment, the focus was on my make up. "For someone who is in the beauty industry, why arent you wearing any?" I replied that I was, and got a smirky "Yeah, hours ago and an eye roll". A few more lines like that. I thought I was being tested for handling pressure and rudeness, it was actually that rude. I was as polite as possible, then that was it, end of interview! I was so upset - I thought decent looks, height and weight was the criteria, make up & perfect grooming could be easily learned! Maybe the fact that the opportunity to work at my dream job mattered so much or maybe I was so much younger and naive that made it hurt, but I was so offended at being dismissed that way. Still cringe at the thought and have so many retorts I could have come up with. Who has a similar or worse experience at a job interview?

I am sorry that you had to go through something like that. Be thankful that you didn't get that job. Imagine what kind of people you would be working for or with. I had a bad experience recently. I was in an interview at a doggie day care. I am a groomer, and they needed one for the weekends. The girl was being really nice to me. Then, she asked me if I was married. I replied no. I am engaged, but she didn't ask me that. Then, she asked me if I had any kids. I said that yes, I am a mother of 4. She asked me their ages. I replied 12, 8, 16 months, and 6 weeks. Then, and this is the part that I could not believe, she said "so, have you ever been married or do you just like having children by yourself?" The nerve of that b----!! I politely told her that it was none of her business, and the interview was over...to hire someone else. I was no longer interested in the position. For one thing, I am not sure, but I don't think interviewers are allowed to ask questions about family. It is none of their business. And two of my children were born in the middle of a very unhappy and abusive marriage, and the other two have been born into a happy relationship in which we are yet to be married. But, as I said, it was none of her business.

Well, good for you that you told her off and didn't have to put up with it for the job's sake, thats the benefit of being your own boss, huh! Yeah some people so take advantage of teh interview process to pry for unnecessary information, and I have been so innocent that I have actually answered cheeky questions like this.. Sorry that you have had unhappy relationships, I wish you true happiness!!
