Do You Freecycle?

Personally I am wondering if everyone here even knows about this site or Yahoo groups as they are better known as? I know there are many who are still unaware and finding these sites every day. For me, it is the Best thing going, and we have been Lucky enough to get a lot of Cool things for Free as well as get rid of some of the stuff we no longer wear, etc. as well. We have gotten Free paint, a lamp, clothes, Butter, Peanut Butter, etc. I think the options of what is listed there, or can be listed there is really endless. You just need to make sure if you are accepted for something to go and get it within the time specified no matter what it takes. So this could mean traveling a little bit, but for something Free it is worth it for sure. But do you Freecycle? What is the Best thing you have ever gotten there? Have you given things away there? For those of you not familiar with these, go to Yahoo groups, and in the Search engine put in Freecycle and your area you are from, and see if there is one in your area as well. You never know what you might find for sure. Wishing you all the Best. ~~TINA~~

I have been a member of several freecycle sites in my area for years, but I only just recently gotten something from it. I got a set of dishes and other kitchen utensils for my new apartment. I think freecycle is great. It was created so people who have clutter to get rid of can give it to people in need instead of sending it to a landfill somewhere. It gives useful items a second chance, while saving the environment. My only problem is there are many bigger items that I would love to pick up, but can't because I don't have the transportation to do so. Oh well. I will still stay a member.

We have a Freecycle in our area. I belong to 2 groups. Our local one is small and there aren't as many free things as there are people requesting free things. In the second group there are many things that people are giving away. I was close to obtaining a 50 gallon fish tank, but wasn't fast enough! Another good one was an inflatable swimming pool with pump. It was larger than the one we have and would have been great. Again, too late. Half the fun is looking at what is offered. If you can get to it first even better!

wow! sounds like you have had good success using freecycle. I have not looked on it for a couple of years now. We live in such a small community amidst other small areas that are spread far and wide.... it just didn't seem much for us.

I think FreeCycle is great Tina. My friend called me this weekend, and she had just discovered it. I was surprised, but you are right. There are some people who are just discovering it from day to day. I haven't had time to find anything I need. But a lot of my friends have. One friend got a few patio blocks which was all she needed to finish up a project. And just last night I was at a baseball game, and one of the mother's said about her daughter's pants, "Yep, gottem' from FreeCycle". We love that over here in our neck of the woods. Even the really small towns are participating, and I think that's great!

Freecycle is awesome- great way to recycle things and know that somebody is getting a use out of what you don't need. Much better than throwing stuff out, imo. I have looked around on the site but I haven't actually done any trading myself, since right now, I don't need anything yet.

My husband and I freecycle all the time. We also "exchange" things with our neighbours. When someone has something to get rid of that is of no use to them but still useful to someone else, they put it out back, and someone takes it. My husband and I got a nice new coffee maker that way, and when we get a new couch (actually a futon) in the next few months, we're going to put the old one out for someone who can use it.

Oh, yes, I love freecycle. We got a 26" tv with stand and also lots of stuff like books, pots and plants, one big box of coconut oil, a printer, a steamer, a set of dining table for a friend, paint, shoes, boots and a computer table. In return, we also gave away our smaller tv, scanner, bicycle, DVD player and cassettes, play station, rhubarb seeds and Jerusalem artichokes.

My mother told me about freecycle a couple of months ago. I have yet to have something that someone is looking for. I went yesterday and picked up a few cactus plants. I am signed up at two cities close to me. I really hope to have something that someone wants when I can. It is a wonderful place for people to go to. Instead of others throwing things out someone can use the items.

I love freecycle! I have gotten a pingpong table for my kids~ I cleaned it up and gave it to them for Christmas. When I was decorating my living room, I got a free lamp from freecycle. I painted the lamp shade and it looks awesome in my new living room. I also love it because I can get rid of things that I don't use anymore. Every once in a while I go threw my kids clothes, post them and they are gone in minutes. Whoever thought of freecycle was a genious!

This is a very good idea and as their site says, its good for the environment in that it reduces landfill by freecycling goods that you dont need or want anymore. I didn't even realise such thing existed. The closest thing I got to this is the curbside collection days where people just put stuff in their curb and if anyone wants to collect it then they can.

Hi there Tina. I have searched and found a group for my city, Bucharest. I never knew such a thing existed bu i thing it is a good thing for improving the relationships between people and helps create a kind of community. Sadly, i figure there are people out there that are greed and want to take things that they don't really need, but overall i think it's a excellent idea.

Freecycle now has it's own domain and no longer is a yahoo group in my area. Look at freecycle.org. I have been using freecycle for awhile. I have given away a good number of things and have gotten a few things. I think it is better than putting things in the trash.I got a free wheelchair for my Mom and it was brand new!I love freecycle.

Yeah, I love freecycle. Just the other day I got a 19" TV with a VCR and DVD built in. It's only four years old, whereas my old TV, which broke down, was more than 17 years old. Also from Freecycle in the last 3 years I've gotten: a smaller TV, a computer monitor (and keyboard and mouse), a coffeemaker, loveseat and ottoman, futon with mattress, and more. All in good shape, and all free.

I've just recently discovered two free cycle groups that are around the areas that I currently reside between. I haven't gotten anything from free cycle nor have I put anything up on free cycle but I definitely am exploring the sites for future references. I definitely am glad knowing that it is possible to get free things from people out there.

We have a freecycle in our area and I get the emails from them. For now we just look, and there have been some interesting things. It's definitely a good way to give back to the community. I wouldn't mind donating these things to churches though either, they could sale them for money.
