parents ideals

how much are we influenced by our parents politics or do we vote according to our own lives and views !!

As a kid I everything was Republican because my parents were. Then I went to college and my views changed. However, I think that makes one more rounded I feel I can listen to all sides and try to make an intelligent decision.
Although, I did feel stupid when I became an independent years ago and didn't realize I couldn't vote for who I wanted to in the primaries. I just thought as an independent I can vote for whomever I wanted.. at least that was my thinking. I don't like voting party lines. Regards

Thats an interesting question, i think that it depends on the parents and the views, people with parents who have strong political views I think are more likely to share their parents views, but I think people with parents that have lax political views are more likely to develop their own views

I think to start with children/teenagers usually react to their parents' views. If the parents have strong political views the children probably will too but often not the same as their parents. However I think as you get older what your parents think becomes less important and your opinions are based on a much wider range of factors.
