What is the fastest way to burn 500 calories or more?

I don't have access to fitness machines like treadmills or bikes, so I can't do any cardio, which is the best way to burn calories. I'm only able to do them once a week when I have acces to a gym. So I need to know if there are other ways to burn 500 calories and even more by doing other activities, besides sports or cardio exercises. Can strength exercises like crunches, squats and others burn up to 500 calories? Those are the only type of exercises I can do at home, and only for a limited period of time. I'm really desperate to find something, an activity that can be performed at home without cardio machines! I need to burn more than 500 calories daily but I have no idea how to do that when I can't exercise outside or go to the gym.

Great suggestions so far! My favorite way to burn calories with no equipment or outside time is to dance. Put some great tunes on your iPod or just turn on your radio, and DANCE! You have to really work hard to burn 500 calories no matter WHAT you do to burn it though. Just for reference, here is examples of how my Heart Rate Monitor tells me I've burned 500 calories - I'm a 5'5" 135 pound woman in her 30s: 55 minutes cycling/spinning class jogging 4-5 miles (about 45-60 minutes) walking 5 miles (about 75-90 minutes) dancing around the house for 60 minutes You can do it strength training, but you have to go from one exercise to the next, try jogging in place or jumping jacks to keep your heart rate up between sets. No resting! If you really want to know how many calories you're burning during activities, get a heart rate monitor. I have a Polar F4, they're $80-$100 but the BEST investment I've ever made! I'm convinced I wouldn't have lost 50# without it. If you can do a DVD, I highly recommend the Turbo Jam DVDs, The Firm DVDs, and any of Jillian Michaels' DVDs (30 Day Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, No More Trouble Zones) and the Biggest Loser DVDs. If you can work hard (lots of panting & sweating!) for an hour, that's probably 500 calories. Don't phone it in!

Wow if I just walk for 90 minutes I'll burn 500 calories? Do you keep a certain pace? How fast should I walk to burn 500 calories in 90 minutes? If I do decide to walk as part of my workout, I'll probably walk outside, through the park or somewhere, not on a treadmill so I can't really tell how fast I'm going. This has always been troublesome for me... I don't have that much space to do complex cardio workouts at home, so dvds aren't the best solution either. After listening to many other opinions I've decided to go with the easiest (and most accessible) advice I got - jumping rope. I read some articles about this and heard other's opinions, they were all stating kind of the same thing - you can burn many calories, up to 700 in a hour. Some said 500... ahm well it doesn't really matter, the thing is that most people seem very sure that jumping rope is a great way to burn calories. And since they're all so sure I got convinced to give it a try. Jumping rope is one of the easiest activities (I can't even call it an exercise! I used to do it when I was a kid!) and it's efficient (they say), so I hope it will help me burn my goal amount of calories. About that heart rate monitor... I'm trying to reach my goal weight without spending much money, that's why I don't even have a treadmill or other equipment at home... I'm trying to make things as simple as possible, to burn calories without spending that much money. I know it would be useful, I would love to have one, but it's hard to find anyway, and it's not actually worth it... My parents wouldn't let me spend that much... They're already annoyed by all the changes and complications my diet has produced, asking them to start buying different stuff will only start other fights... Thank you for your advice! But I'll have to lose the weight without any equipment after all.

An average person burns 100 calories per mile, so if it takes you 90 minutes to do 5 miles, you're probably pretty close. My mom is probably 50-60 pounds heavier than me, and her 3.5 mile loop takes her 60 minutes to walk, she burns 400 calories doing it. You should be working hard - sweating, and at a pace where you can say a few words or a sentence, but not carry on a conversation. If you can sing, you're not working hard enough. You should be only able to say your name & address, then need to breathe for a while before doing it again. If walking isn't getting you there, try doing intervals of jogging in there. Walk 90 seconds, run 60 seconds, repeat. I prefer to spend half the time working out and really bust my butt, so my %max of my heart rate usually goes up to 90%. Some people would rather work out at a lower intensity for longer. Give jumping rope a try. There's no way I could stay interested in it long enough to do it for more than 10 minutes, but maybe you can! Sorry your parents aren't more supportive of a healthy lifestyle. I wonder if they realize healthy eating can benefit them too? Yes, healthy food is a little more expensive (not if you know how to shop, though!) now, but it saves LOADS of money on expensive health care problems in the future. Best of luck to you!

I am not able to get to a gym anymore either. I have a 3 year old that always likes to play outside so I started running around my house. That works, if you don't want to run in the same spot.

well, the brochure I read at the doc's office on Monday said you could jog (I guess in place since you can't go out) for 5 miles, so figure running in place at least an hour or 2, biking (if you had a machine) would still eat up 50 minutes to an hour and so does swimming.

Running and walk up and down the stairs, I have heard theses two help you burn calories quick and not too miserable.
