Is President Obama in touch with reality?

Trying to be the peacemaker is only going to work if you fully understand what the issues are. Pretending there are no differences between two parties in a dispute doesn't help solve the problem. Obama doesn't seem to understand.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Thursday the United States was "deeply hated" in the Middle East and that Israel is a "cancerous tumor in the heart" of the Muslim world.
Meanwhile, Obama is making pretty speeches telling us all that there isn't any huge obstacle that separates the US from Muslim countries and we have more to unite us than divide us.
Is Obama in touch with reality? Is he pretending to not notice that deep hatred of the US? Is he willing to sacrifice Israel to make friends with Iran?

All anyone can do is make speeches with the general public in mind. You cannot change the mind of power-mad extremists like Khamenei, but through peace and understanding you can undermine their position of authority in their own countries. In a world of increasing communication it is harder and harder to dominate the will of a whole country the way Hitler was able to 70 years ago. We no longer have to speak in terms of absolutes: us versus them. It is past time for a dialogue that allows for good people everywhere to find just enough common ground to coexist. This is the new reality. The old fears that divide the world are the true enemy.

You can't have a one-sided peace. The basic problem in the world is that people are not basically good. I know that's a viewpoint that most people would reel back in shock from, but truly, if you review the history of mankind you will see it is true. Secondly, you never make a bully your friend by acceding to his demands. Bullies don't give up bullying you because you are too weak to defend yourself. They bully more.

The part about peace not being one-sided is profound, perhaps inarguable. The assumption that people are evil at heart would be hotly debated, of course, but that doesn't really matter if the theory about peace is true. All we need is for both sides to realize conflict is not in either side's self-interest. Whether the balance point is mutual assured destruction during the cold war or just staying out of each other's politics, there needs to be a balance. America has become a bit of a bully because they can (which seems to validate your "evil humanity" argument), but the fact that noone can stand against the US military should not let America think dominating another sovereign country is the best solution. Open dialogue and financial support can do far more to create a country that we can share the world with, than military threats, strategic strikes and invasions. It doesn't always work; A strong military is always needed, but have we forgotten the "speak softly" part while flailing around our "big stick".
-"Speak softly, but carry a big stick" -Theodore Roosevelt
-"Find something to hit with your stick and keep swinging" -Ronald Reagan paraphrased

I don't know. Sometimes I worry about him. I know that he thinks he's doing the right thing right now in the Middle East, but he said things in his speech that made me cringe. Seriously. I feel embarassed by some of the things he said.

I agree about that sense of embarrassment. Especially when he makes it seem like the only thing standing in the way of peace in the world has been America. We know that's not true, it's wrong to make our country seem to be some force for evil in the world just to try to appeal to a less friendly audience. I want the president to be proud of American values, not apologize for them.

I certainly hope he's not as out of touch with reality as he seems to appear lately. Sure, it would be nice to go down in history as the Great Peacemaker of the world...but the world is not going to change just because the President of the United States says it should. You can't be on everyone's side simultaneously...you can't MAKE people suddenly like you and your country when they've hated the U.S. for decades.

The differences go much deeper than their desire to have us be friendly. I don't think they are a bit interested in whether or not we are very friendly. I agree that he wants to be the Great Peacemaker, but he thinks he can buy peace at the price of our freedom. I hope we don't let him.

in my opinion, barack hussein obama is way out of touch with the common person. it's one thing to be a politician , but it's another thing to be a radical liberal, calling america, a "muslim nation"
america is not supposed to be a socialist country, of course he is a out of touch.

I don't think Obama cares about reality, considering that he has just as much hatred toward America as the Iranians do. All he's doing is going on another apology tour, telling everyone in the Mideast how sorry he is for America's existence.
Mr. Obama is an embittered, angry man who has schmoozed with other embittered, angry people (Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, et al), and he's bound and determined to cut America down to size, no matter what it takes. That's the scary part.

They won't respect him for it, that's for sure. He doesn't understand that your enemy may never come to like you, but he can be made to respect you. They will never respect us if we, as you say, keep apologizing for being America and all it represents.

Obama are gonna sacrifice Israel or USA. He was sacrificing him self to make a better world to live without war. You know what Rollo1?.. Moeslims & Christians are just like Kain & Habel... Kain already tried to make GOD happy for the things that he have done, but GOD seems to be does not buy Kain attentions. You can also see the image of Israel & Palestine. Israel claiming for the land that GOD promises to them. But i believe that the people of Palestine also Pray to GOD "Where do we should live if the land that we have been stayed for a thousand years was not our land?".
