How do you deal with slugs , ive read that a few spots of white vinigar dropped on them , but not to get any on the plants ... Any more humane suggestions welcome !!!

I didn't know much methods to control slugs till now. The only methods I knew until now and have tested is:
Vermiculite- It's a compost addition and a product that swells up during rain, I think adding a bit of water will work.
Gravel- Large and sharp edged ones. I actually have may non-gardening region full of them. My house is built on a rocky region. We get a lot of gravel after every rain.
