I was browsing the net, and found this painting that really broke my heart... I just thought of sharing this to you my fellow Mylotters. Although the painitng was done by a Filipino, and it's concept is about Christianity, I still invite Mylotters from different races and beliefs to check this out. This is the painitng by Joey Velasco called, "Hapag ng Pag-asa", And in it is Jesus Christ, having his last supper, with street children, instead of the 12 apostles. I surfed more about the painitng, and saw a youtube video... with the painter, telling the story of each child in the painting. There, I realized that each child was not a mere painting... but are real street children that the painter encountered. If you have time... try checking this video in Youtube. And let me know about what you think... and for those who are not Filipinos nor Christians, please check this out without minding the differences we have. Although, the audio is in Tagalog (filipino language), there is a translation on the screen. This video made me cry... and I wish, by sharing this to fellow Mylotters, I can help in the realization of this painitng. Kuddos to Joey Velasco...truely an artist with a big heart :-)

Yes Carrine, better check this video out. I am not into exploring national stuff myself but this one caught my eye. Aside for the painter's version of the Last Supper, it also showed so much reality... that we often neglect everyday.

"hapag ng Pas Asa" means table of hope To start with, it is not really a table. It is a big delivery box, knocked apart and nailed together again as a table. Joey Velasco himself has said; "This painting reveals a story of greater hunger than a plate of rice could satisfy. What these children are starved for is love." The most fascinating was the story of the child, in the painting, who is under the table eating the crumbs that have fallen to the floor. Joey says; "the child under the tale is ME!" such a great picture.

You're so right. Looking at each child's eyes is really heart breaking. The painter was right when he mentioned, that each of them, seems to be looking back at him. That child under the table, has the most heart breaking story among all the kids in the painting. It made me feel, how selfish I have been, not to think of them, when they suffer more than I can imagine...in theyr everyday life.
