I am on a business trip with my fiancee. Our agenda was to visit two different cities in New York as he was visiting universities for his post-doc. I'm tagging along to see how I like the communities incase we possibly move here.
We stayed in a hotel last night that was a Marriott and it was great! We're now in the second city and staying in a "classy" hotel downtown, but I don't like it so much. I just don't feel comfortable and at home here like I did in the other hotel. This place has a smell and it's just really starting to get to me! I don't know how I'm going to stay here for two nights!!
Do you consider yourself picky when it comes to hotels?
I would say I'm somewhat picky. If I feel like it's unclean or I just don't get a good vibe or even if I'm just not comfortable, I have a hard time relaxing on the trip. I like being able to come back to a hotel in the evening and feeling right at home.

yeah I can get very Picky about hotels. I think that hotels should have good beds, and I think that all hotels are trying to capture the idea that all guest should feel like there home. The worst thing I hate about some hotels is that they tend to make it very cold. Also the most important thing I look into a hotel is how good the food is and if they have a buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner. The second most important thing about a hotel is the beds because you always need a good nights rest.

I am picky about were i stay. I would rather the hotel have internet in the rooms and a bussiness center, Indoor pool at least. I mean these are things that are a must when staying away from home. a few years back my mother and sister and a few friends would all get one really nice room and just relax. the one thing we found was many of the five star and four star hotels are nice with resturants in side but some of the Hampton Inn and so on were almost just as nice for not even a third of the cost. So while I am a bit picky I don't need a bunch of stars to be happy. Now in your case... I would let the frount desk know hey there is and odd smell in my room place give us another room. A clean room is a must.

We actually ended up finding a leak in the room!!! The carpet was all wet near the kitchenette area. So we got switched to a new room and OMG - it's 150% better. This room is amazing. You'd never even know it was in the same hotel as the other room that we were in.

Yes, I am picky within my budget. Whenever I am traveling I have a price range in mind and I try and find out as many hotels in that price range as possible. Within them there are certain criteria that I like to chk out…esp. the bathroom and sheets. I also like the hotel to have a certain look about it…it should be inviting and appealing. So you might say I am choosy but I am not staying there forever, so while I am spending the money, I try and get the exact things I want.

Yes, I stayed at a Days Inn and the whole place was filled with cockroaches. I would never stay at a Days Inn again. Luckily I only paid for one night but even then I felt like asking for my money back.

I am definitely picky about my hotel rooms....granted we havent stayed at any in a long time since we havent traveled much in the last couple years but I know exactly what you mean about having to feel comfortable there in order to relax.
When we were dating we traveled alot and I would only stay at Best Westerns, as those where the ones that we got the best service, the nicest staff... versus say Red Roof Inns, and there were 2 others that we stayed at and I didnt care for them either... but the Best Westerns would always stand out to us.
I am not sure how they are now, it has probably been over 5 yrs for sure since we stayed at a hotel... but I would be very picky when it comes to traveling again and picking a hotel.
Sorry you dont like the second one, hopefully you will be out of there soon and then back to comfort!!!
take care and happy mylotting.

there are only things that i would look for in a hotel.first is the accommodation cost and the other one is the cleanliness. i wouldn't be comfortable staying in a hotel when it's not that neat and clean.im not particular with the amenities too.as long as there is a bathroom and restroom in it, then it would be just so fine.

I can be picky at times but also a lot of the times you get what you pay for. My mom is extremely picky and always stays at 5 star hotels but my boyfriend and I don't have that type of money when we go on vacation. Of course you expect the room to be clean but with the decor and whatnot it's not a HUGE deal to me...When I go on vacation I am rarely at the hotel to begin with, basically only to change and go to sleep.

I do travel quite often to countries abroad , and cities in those countries. Most of my travels were business travels. So, I have to meet business people and attend business meetings. So, that makes me a bit picky about hotels, not regarding the star-rating of the hotel, but for the convenience in going to those business meetings.

I don't travel for business, but I do travel for leisure...about twice a year. I am usually quite particular about the kind of hotel I stay in. Usually these should be at least a 4-star hotel. If it is in the city, then it should be close to shopping or a subway station, and not in some remote corner of the city. It should be pleasant, clean and comfortable. I like to choose well-appointed hotels which are stylishly furnished and which have a cosy ambience. They need not be very high class or expensive options. Many times, the hotels I stay in meet my requirements but they are only moderately priced.

Yes, I am very picky when it comes to hotels.. I don't like dirty and noisy hotels, hotels that have rude staff and crew, etc... you know, we should get what we truly deserve.. and since the hotel rates are surprisingly expensive, we have the right to be picky/choosy..

I am not that picky about hotels and in the past I have stayed at many different kinds of hotels. Some of them have been luxurious and some them have been very cheap. Sometimes there wasn't much to choose to between and I have had to take what I could get. There a few things that I don't want to experience again and that includes bedbugs, closets that fall apart when you try to open them and rooms without a proper lock Aside from that I am not very picky. I don't need a private bathroom or anything like that, if there is a bed that that is good enough to me.
Some years ago I had made a reservation throught the internet, and when I arrived at the hotel the staff was extremely rude. I was alone, it was late at night and I didn't know the city so I chose to stay at the hotel, but if we had been a group of people, I am pretty sure that we would left the place. It was definately not a pleasant experience, and was very angry when I finally got the key to my room.

I'm picky about picking hotels too, I would rather to pay more expensive hotels to have better room and services. I remeber we went to travel last year, we picked a 4 star rating hotel(4 is above good), the price was reasonable so we picked it. But the totel's floor was gross, we were so disappointed so we requested to change room and it was better.

To a degree. If it has a foul odor in the room or looks old and unclean, I will not stay there. One time, my family and I were on vacation and reserved a room. The hotel looked nothing like it did on the website. We asked for our money back and had to call the police to intervene because my hubby was about to kicked the man's butt cause he was refusing to give us our money back.

I am an independent traveler. I used to be a backpacker on a very limited budget when I was younger. In those dsys I stayed in backpacker hostels, camped and in cheap accommodatiuion. One guest house I stayed in Paris was horrible. My backpack kept getting stuck on the narrow stair case. There wasn't a curtain at the window and the shower wasn't safe. When I was in Sumatra in Indonesia I sat on the bed in my room and noticed a note on the wall. It said "Do not sleep here. These beds have bed bugs and fleas so check out now". It was late so I told the manager and he placed me in a different room. That I think had mice or rats running across my luggage in the night. The next day I found somewhere better to stay. In Jordan it was so hot I was glad to sleep a few nights on a flat roof. The most enjoyable time I had was staying in a tree house in Belize. I like adventure more than comfort. A five star hotel is far from daily local life and a locally owned guest house offers better insights to a country I feel. In the USA there are some lovely youth hostels that are clean and friendly.

Hi, I am chosey aobut hotels myself. I book my hotels via the internte travel sites. I like to go by there star rating. I usualy go for 3 stars. but I will stay in one that is rated wit 2 stars. I have stayed in some good ones and bad ones. one of he best hotels I have stayed in was the Quility INN, one of which was in Chararette NC and one in Crossville TN. they were both newer hotels so everthing was in good order. I have spent time in other hotels as part of convention, but I stayed in a hotel across the road or nearby. The Marriot is a good hotel so is the Hamption INN. I have stayed in a few bad ones, but I realy do not want to rember those.

Yes, I am picky, especially in terms of the bed. It will not be nice if you sleep on something dirty or with spots on it..yuckss. But sometimes, I tend to pick a new ordinary hotel to 5 star hotel. Somehow, I think a new hotel must have new furniture and nice smell.

Of course you'll feel uncomfortable in a hotel that isn't too clean. But the good thing is, you can demand what you want from the housekeepers. Hotels are part of the hospitality industry, so you can easily ask them to do things the way you want it.
I don't think I'm too choosy with hotels, but I definitely enjoy staying in upper class hotels. They're great. I travel a lot, so I'm used to sleeping in standard hotels. I'm used to it.

Personally i think that it depends on the occasions and purposes for which you will be choosing the hotel. For example if you need a honeymoon suit or just a bedroom for living.
Secondly it depends on the cost and the amount of money that we have to pay for our stay. If We have enough money, we'll sure like to stay in a five star hotel otherwise any hotel will be ok.
Also the services that we have got in a hotel will also be helpful. If we have received good services in a hotel, we'll surely return to that hotel another time. Also there are some hotels that do promotions to attract customers.
