I just got a new puppy Tuesday. She will be moving with me to Texas at the first of July. She is mix Beagle/Shepard, 8 weeks old and weighs in at a whopping 6.27 pounds. Her name is Maggie. I forgot that having a new puppy is a lot like having a new baby lol. Since I am getting her used to traveling, she goes everywhere with me. And of course I have to take her bowl, water, food, and her toys with us. She is really smart, she is already house trained. She sleeps with me, so she wakes me up in the morning when she wakes up and needs to go outside. The first night, she woke me up at 2:30am, but the past two nights she has been sleeping longer, this morning she slept til 7:00am. The first place she went was to PetSmart, to get her new halter, leash, toys and bowl. Didn't have anything for a puppy lol. My daughter also has a new puppy, it's Maggie's sister! lol Hannah weighs in at over 10lbs. They play great together, and after Maggie moves to Texas, she'll still get to see her sister when she comes to Texas for holidays and visits.
Have you ever gotten a new puppy and felt like you had a new baby on your hands?

Oh yes! I have felt that way. I really do consider my pets my babies..lol..My female chihuahua is going to have puppies in a couple of weeks and I can't wait. I know it will tear my heart out to not keep them. I'm going to be very picky as to their new owners..lol...Take care and enjoy the new addition.

Thanks Jen, you'll have to share pics of the new babies when they arrive. My fiance and I were laughing today, since Maggie is only 2 months old. I told him I could really get someone's attention if they asked how old my kids are........I have two daughters, 26 and 20, he has a daughter and a son 14 and 12, and then we have our two 4 legged babies, his 3 year old cat and the 2 month old. lol But if I only answered 26,20,14,12,3 and 2 months, people would give us a funny look I'm sure LOL

LOL...I'd do it just to see what they would do..hehe..I'll definately share pics. I have teacups so they will be tiny. The vet said they will weigh the same as 10 pennies stacked together..and be just as long..LOL...teeny. Mom only weighs 3 and 1/2 pounds and dad weighs around 4.

this is why I never wanted a puppy...
now the bottle baby kittens, those were a handful for those few weeks (they felt like a YEAR) before they were off the bottle and litter trained...
I'll take older dogs and kittens that don't need mom any day of the year!

I don't mind having a puppy, and training them is part of the fun for me. I have trained all the dogs I've had and most were puppies when I got them. I had one kitten, years ago that I had to bottle feed, I can't imagine having more than one at a time! lol Maggie will also have a big 'brother', when my fiance and I are together, he has a big orange tabby, 3 year old.

Yes, actually they are just like babies (without the diapers)! And without spanking. I've never laid a hand to my pets, no tapping the nose or anything, and have never had a problem. And they listen very well.
Sometimes I'll cook for them as a treat. Love to bring a toy home when I've been shopping, and they know cuz they snoop in the bags worse than the kids. I have one that will actually sit at the table to eat. She Gets up on her chair every time I cook. Have to dress them warm in winter, keep up on shots/doctor visits, take care when their sick, play time, watch their diet, send to school(or train yourself),clean up after them, potty train, and love them forever. And they will love you back. Thats my favorite part.

Oh yes, she is my baby, lol I'll be training her myself, as I have done with all my past dogs. She is already potty trained, which is great. She is already spoiled as well, the first place she went when I got her was to PetSmart lol

hahaha yeah my friend I have 6 new puppies and I guess you already know from my other discussion that I had a hard time choosing 1. I really envy you my friend since you have 1 already and could take care of her just as I like to take care of mine. Want her or him to sleep with me and I could play with him or her but still confused which one to choose before I give away the other 5 puppies.

That would be a hard choice for me as well, I would want to keep all of them lol. Maggie does sleep with me, she's doing really well, and loves going in the car, which is good since she'll be moving with me to Texas, 1600 miles/two day trip lol.

This is so great. I can really relate to your joy.
I once had a puppy, and I treated her like a new little baby, the kind of excitment was there.
It was already many years back when she was a puppy. My dog is now more than 10 years old. Though she is now a senior dog, I find that I still treat her like a little baby, or may be a small kid rather. She is sticking very closely to me. And sometimes I do feel that she behaves like a kid.
Your puppy is so fortunate that she can travel with you.

My dogs have always been like one of the kids lol. She will be just as spoiled lol. I love being able to take her with me, pretty much everywhere I go. Of course she stays home if I'm going to be out of the vehicle, when it's hot out. But she will be my travel companion for my move to Texas. I have always taken my dogs with me, not sure what I'd do if I ever had a dog that got carsick lol.

I love pets. I have cats myself but I treat them just like little kids. When they are kittens I carry them around the house.
I talk to them and love on them. They are like little people, of course the down side is that they think that they are people and just like people they start making demands and thinking they have a say so.

She is like a little baby, I carry her around a lot, since my daughter has a long flight of stairs in her house, and they are hardwood, Maggie doesn't do to well yet with the steps. lol She is already spoiled, and as soon as me and my fiance are together she will have a big 'brother', he has a tabby cat that is 3 years old. Maggie was around cats at the home I got her from, however, he's never been around a dog, so there will be some adjusting to do lol

That's wonderful! Sounds like your new puppy is adorable. I have been wanting to get a puppy; a beagle believe it or not. The kids have been crying for one too. They have never had a dog yet. My husband doesn't want one though. I'm hoping to change his mind in a couple years though. I rememember when I was younger we always had a dog. Yes, puppies are a lot like babies except they aren't awake every two hours to be fed or have their diaper changed.

Beagles are good dogs. The mom was only around 25 - 30 lbs, I'm hoping Maggie stays somewhat small. She was the smallest of the pups. She has been sleeping through the night with the exception of the first night, and I was up at 2:30 and 5:30. But the past two nights she has slept all the way through. My family has always had a dog since I can remember. I just took her for her first walk, and she did pretty good, will just take a little time to get used to the leash.

Hey palonghorn! Oh! That is so great! I love having a new
baby! I haven't had a puppy in a very long time! I have kittys
now, but I do remember when they were babies and it was so
much fun! The two that I have now are 5 years old, but they
still act like babies and that's how I treat them! I know
that you are having so much fun with Maggie! That's a great
mix too! I love both those breeds so she must be really sweet!
I'm sure she is going to give you many years of love and
great times! Enjoy your new baby!

Thanks, and I will give her a kiss from her Auntie Opal. She'll soon be taking her first long roadtrip with me, when she moves to Texas.

I thought you really have your own baby. I don't have a dog that's why I don't have a puppy. Take care of your puppy.

Your new baby is such a cutie! It's really nice to train her up especially now she's still a puppy.
When we got a new puppy, it was really tough since he wasn't used to the surroundings. But soon enough, he got he's way around. He was like a lil baby because he always want milk and kisses (not kiss like smooching, kisses from hershey's). I miss those times. He was gone now. Due to old age.
