Which Do You Prefer? A Dog Or A Cat?

Some people are either a dog person or a cat person. Some people are cat haters. I like both, myself. However, the more I think about it, I believe I like dogs better. Dogs are friendlier. Cats are sweet in their own way. I have had both. There were a few times when I had both at the same time. Dogs will let you know when somebody is at the door. I think they are better protectors. There was a time when I wanted a cat because I wanted something that would kill mice and rats. I have learned since then that some dogs are good at killing them, too.

It's too hard to pick between the two. I love both cats and dogs and would like to have two of each. Right now I only have a cat. I suppose, if I HAD to pick, I'd pick a cat because they take less work and you can have them in a smaller home. Dogs need to be walked and need room to run around. They're more needy as well. But I really do love them both. My dream is to have my mainecoon, another cat, a yellow lab, and a pembroke welsh corgi.:)

What is a mainecoon? I don't think I've ever heard of that. I'd like to see what one looks like. I get animal planet on my television. Reckon they would have them on there? It's fun seeing which mylotters prefer a cat, which ones prefer a dog, and which ones like both. Thank you for responding and happy mylotting. Kathy.

Well, I'm definitely a cat person. I love dogs as long as I can give them back, I'm very happy just visiting with them. I have 3 cats at this time and I've had at least one cat in my life since I was 12. Two of them are brother and sister Siamese. They are very friendly and love everybody! They also have TONS of personality and love to play with us. They love cuddles too. The boy, Tinkerbell, takes turns sleeping with myself and my husband every night. when he sleeps with my husband, he HAS to have an arm over him. Our girl, Felice sleeps with us, too. Our third fur kid, Bud is an outdoor boy. He comes and goes all day and well into the night. He is the only cat I've ever known that just won't use a litter box. he likes most people as well and LOVES his family. We NEVER have a mouse problem eith Bud on gaurd. He also likes to sleep with us, usually draped across my hubby's stomach. The cats seem convinced my husband is one of them! i think cats are better companions than dogs are. One never worries about cats being on the furniture or sleeping on the bed. Mine are quite well trained and have good manners-most of the time. They're not destructive at all and are wonderful members of our family. We especially appreciate them when one of is sick, because they will pay extra attention to the sick person, trying to make them fell better!

Both animals are great, but I am more used to cats and can handle them better. They need to be treated differently, for dogs, you have to be the leader of the flock. But cats are great friends when they have to do with friendly people. They are intelligent too and wonderful personalities. My favorites are Norwegian Forrest cats and maybe the ones with folded ears - but I have never met one so far.

Thank you for responding. I don't think I've ever seen a Norwegian Forrest Cat. What do they look like? I bet they are pretty. The name sounds pretty, anyway. I get animal planet on my television. I wonder if they ever have them on there? Kathy.-

I love both, I have both, I have many cats and two dogs, one male and one girl. Cats have the mind of their own, they are sometimes snob and sweet,I always play joke with them when they are snob, I used to hold on to their chins and make them smile with teeth exposed.I started laughing when I am doing that. I also make them talk, like I am opening a their mouth a little and I will talk on the background move their mouth that seems they are talking by themselves. My dogs are sweet and loyal. When I am going out or going to work, it seems they are lonely they even hide my shoes to not let me go out. When I'm back at home they give me a princess welcome. I love animals that appreciate your love and care they give it all back. I love them both.

You should try once, its fun. But warning, you can only do that to sweet cats only because they allow their master which is us to do everything we wanted to them. Snob cats can hurt you.

It's so good that you can make your cats smile with their teeth exposed, lolI also like the fact that you can make them talk. This is so funny! I never thought about doing anything like this with any of my animals. I think taking care of an animal is rewarding work. Kathy.

I prefer to have a dog rather than a cat. I am not a cat hater but when I was young I had asthma and having a cat around would trigger my asthma attack. Though at this point in time, I no longer suffer from asthma, but somehow, I still keep away from cats as much as possible. Due to this, I prefer to have dogs as a pet.

It's understandable if you're allergic to cats. I have a lot of allergies, myself, but I'm just glad I'm not allergic to animals of any kind. I love horses, for example, and I remembered thinking that I might be allergic to horses at one time. The reason why I thought this is because I would have a lot of sinus problems after I went riding. I asked my doctor if it would mean I would have to quit riding horses if it turned out I was allergic to them and he said they would just have to put more horse serum in my shot medicine. I was tested for horse dander and it turned out I wasn't allergic to them after all. I was so happy!!! Kathy.

Definitely,it's dog!I love dogs. When I was a kid ,I used to have a dog ,but my father thought it was too noisy,so he kill it with a stick when I'm away.I was so sad that I cryed for a whole night. In my experience, the dog is much more loyal and sentient than cat. Then are cute and like to be with humans, but cat is very high-headed,and it tend to be more disobliging and fickle.A dog will remember its master forever, but cat will forget you in a week. So,I prefer dogs!

I like both also. I had my dog, Petey, for 10 years before he passed away and he was, and still is, my best friend. We now have our cat, Morgana, and she is my babygirl. I've always had a huge soft spot for animals anyways but some I don't see me living with...snakes, mice, things like that. Also Morgana is a good protector too...she will run to the door any time anyone comes to it and when someone comes in, she'll follow them around till they leave. That's the way I feel about my dog. She is like my baby. Well, my horse is, too. However, I'm going to have to get rid of him. He's a stud and he's a little too unpredictable. My nephew gave him to me but he's going to swap him out for an older horse for me when he can find one. He got in too big a hurry giving me this horse so he's taking his time more about it now. I like both dogs and cats, myself. Like you, I like dogs better. My favorite animal is the horse, though. I do a lot of horseback riding and I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center here in town where I'm on the drill team. Pets are great stress relievers, aren't they?

I like both as well, I grew up a total cat person. When I had children I put a stop to cat loving temporarily because I was afraid for my children's health. I like dogs for much the same reasons you mentions. I hate pet hair though! I would love a pet that didn't shed. AT ALL! And one that doesn't eat much. But, no fish, I have a bad habit of killing fish.

I know what you mean about pets shedding. My little dog is a short-haired breed and she sheds! It's all over my leather furniture in the kitchen. I have a hard time getting rid of it, too. I polish the furniture with Pledge and I go over them with fabric softener sheets. I still have a problem with it, though. I used to have an Alaskan Malamute and she shedded a lot worse, only she stayed outside. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

I used to be strictly a dog person. I never HATED cats, I just always preferred dogs. That was until I got my husband a black and white female maine coone cat (who is now 12 lbs, BTW!) for his birthday one year (it is on Halloween). We have two dogs and this cat. I must say, although I still prefer dogs, our cat is as cool as a cat could be. She is super sweet, playful, affectionate, smart, very funny, and pretty much acts more like a dog than a cat. Maybe that's why I like her so much! She really is a great cat, and I'd get another cat again if I could have one like her. She fits into our family perfectly.

Hi cobra1368! I just asked the mylotter below you what a maine coone is. I don't think I've ever heard of that. From the way you describe her, she must be a beautiful cat. Thank you for responding and happy mylotting. Kathy.

She's correct! My cat is not too terribly long-haired though. Definitely not as bad as a Persian. It is groomed easily. But she is 12lbs (we call her Fat Cat), and she has the personality of a dog. She comes when you whistle, and runs full speed when food is involved! She is black and white with yellow eyes. Not a very interesting looking cat, but her personality beats all! I wasn't sure what she was and was calling her a domestic shorthair for a while. However, I have a lady that comes to take care of our animals when we go out of town, and she has seven cats. She told me that she thought my cat was a maine coone. I simply agreed with her after we talked about it (I wasn't aware of what a maine coone was then either!).

I bet the cat makes you feel better when you are hurting. I haven't worked in several years but I remember how nice it would be to come home to a dog who was glad to see you after being chewed out at work some days! I like both species, myself. Thank you for responding. Have a nice day. Kathy.

I am a dog person. I prefer dogs to cats. No special reason, perhaps its because I play with dogs when I was young. Further more, dogs have proven to be man's best friends.

You were just brought up with dogs more or less. Did you ever own a dog? You just said you played with them when you were younger. That's why I was asking. I agree that they are man's best friend. My dog has been a lot of company to me since I live alone. She likes to go with me whenever I feed my horse. She also likes to go for a ride with me in the car. She's a mess! Thank you for responding and happy mylotting. Kathy.

i'm definitely a cat person, as you can see from my avatar. i've always thought i'm a dog person until i got my first cat. i found her lying in the middle of the road motionless. we moved her to the side of the road and went to get some milk for her. when we return twenty minutes later, she was in the exact same position! i brought her home and she has given me immense joy and laughter in the past ten years. i plan to spend the next fifteen to twenty years with her as well. personally, i find cats more loyal in a way than dogs. dogs are affectionate and enjoys petting by anyone 'sanctioned' by their owner. cats are less so and therefore my cats only enjoy being petted by me. anyone else try to pet them and they'll run away.

My cats and dogs couldn't kill a mouse if you put them in a cage together and tranquilized the mouse. Cats are my passion as you probably guessed from my name and avatar. I couldn't live without a cat. I could do without 15, but I need 1 or 2 to survive. Without them I would be empty and depressed. I have one dog. I love her and cherish her. I need a dog as long as I live in a house. She is my warning system that someone is approaching. She is also a wonderful companion.

Up until recently I only liked dogs and hated cats. Dogs are so much friendlier and loveable and all the cats I've came in contact with even ones my parents owned were evil lol. But I was watching a court show and saw this cat called a Pixie bobcat and it looks just like a bobcat and it's HUGE lol and the lady said they were more like dogs than cats in the sense that they can be trained. I don't know if that's true or not but the cat is beautiful and it made me want one.

I saw a bobcat a time or two a long time ago at our local fair. I was surprised at how big they could get, almost the size of a German Shepard, yet they look like a regular cat in a sense. I never have heard of a Pixie bobcat. This is a new one one me. I get animal planet on my television. I wonder if they might ever have them on there sometimes? Thank you for responding and happy mylotting. Kathy.
