Do you buy music from itunes or just use the player?

I never buy music from itunes. I either download it elsewhere or use my CD's and then use the itunes player. Do you all buy music from Itunes? If so do you think are the prices reasonable? I was just wondering because I don't see the point in buying music from there that I can get elsewhere cheaper. What are you thoughts on this? I have used Itunes for years and I did used to buy music from it. When I bought a new computer and couldn't remember my user id and password, I couldn't get it back and lost all of the music because I never put it on a disc. Am I wrong to use the player when I don't buy music from them?

Nope, just because you have their player doesn't mean you have to buy the music from them! I don't know if they still have free music, but a few weeks ago I read that every Tuesday (today!) they offer free downloads of selected songs. Probably not the most popular, but they're free! Also, go here: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&rs=334897011&ref_=sr_pg_1&bbn=324586011&qid=1233176989&rh=n%3A324382011%2Cn%3A334897011&page=1 Amazon has around 800 songs for free! Looks like there's something there for just about everyone. I don't have an iPod but I've looked through the Amazon list and will probably download a few to put on cd and play in my car and on my computer.

I have iTune player and store. I do purche music from the iTunes site but only if I am interted in the song. Most of the time I am downloading podcast from the site. The podcast are free and I listen to them on the computer. I have never downloaded any music from anywhere easle. for me iTunes store is fine and the prices are resable. I do not think that there is anything wrong with you useing the iTunes player even if you are not buying from the store.

Thank you for the reply, it is much appreciated. It appears that everyone has a different take on how to get their music but that everyone is in agreement that it is okay to use the player without a purchase. I can't feel bad about it anyway. I have spent a lot of money with Apple and the Ipods that I have owned. Three so far and I am sure that I will get another before it's all over with and they aren't cheap!! haha

I don't do either one. i never pay for music. I go to project playlist. Almost anything I want to hear is on there. There's even music on youtube and another music site lastfm. between those sites, I can hear anything I want. Again, for free.

Thanks for the response. Can you put those on an Ipod. I use my Ipod endlessly so I have to have a lot of music on it all the time. I take it in my car, out in the yard and everywhere with me. I don't leave home without my Ipod.

I don't think so. I just looked at the site and there was nothing that showed that you can download the songs. And I think you have to be able to download songs to put it on an ipod, right? I wouldn't know. The way I take that music around is I take a cord from the headphone jack on my laptop, run it to my stereo which has a cassette deck and record them. Then, I'll put the tapes in my car. I'm not quite up to date when it comes to some electronics. I have a combo DVD/VCR player as opposed to a dvr. (Hey, at least I have a DVD.) Anyway, I do love music alot and it must be cool to be able to put a hundred of your favorite songs and take it anywhere you want.

My goal for the ipod is to fill it completely with music, it has a lot of memory though. Not sure I will ever reach that goal haha...

i think that paying $1.30 for a popular song is outrageous, even though they are DRM-free. I was perfectly fine with there prices until they switched to that plan.

I've bought probably about a dozen songs from iTunes so far. The biggest problem I have with iTunes is that I can't listen to their songs on WMP (Windows Media Player), and that really bugs me! so I HAVE to listen to them on iTunes - and I hate listening to music on iTunes! I'm not sure if it's just my computer..But it always runs REALLY slow and takes forever to boot up. Maybe it's time for me to get a MAC. . I personally don't think .99 cents is bad. I like the fact that it is a LEGAL way to get music - and a lot of the songs I've downloaded off of iTunes are songs that I couldn't find anywhere else. I do wish iTunes would have a broader selection of songs, though, including local bands. The player is totally free, so I don't think you're "wrong" for using it. I just hope that you're acquiring your music legally - otherwise, keep in mind that you're pirating music, which is definitely illegal!

No worries, I am legal, no intentions of staying in jail for even one night haha.... Can't you change the itunes music to a wma file. I am sure there are some free programs that you can get to do that. Itunes does take a long time to boot up.. but they do have a lot of songs. I don't really mess with it too much though. Have you ever gotten videos off of them? I know you can rent or buy them but I'm not sure if those are worth it or not. I think I can get much cheaper rentals elsewhere.

i really hate iTunes on windows (the only reason why i use it is that i have an iPod) because it is slow slow, even though i have a fast, modern-day computer. Personally, i would switch to Zune if I had a choice because they give you 10 free songs a month plus unlimited cd-quality streaming for only $14.99/month.

I don't use itunes and I would delete it alltogether but I do have some free music from a couple of those cards they hand out at festivals. I usually download singles and play them on the windows media player.

This is exactly why I refuse to have an ipod. The music I download already works with my current user friendly devices.

I have found that I can't put the windows media player music on my Ipod and not doing that is not an option. I have to have my Ipod with me all the time. I love music and that is the best way to hear the songs that I like. Is it possible to put those songs on an Ipod?

You can put any songs onto your iPod. If you purchase songs from other websites all you have to do is burn those songs onto a CD and then rip them into iTunes. Then you can upload them to your iPod.

There's nothing wrong with using the iTunes player and not buying music from them. There's also nothing wrong with buying the music from iTunes, but not using the player to play them. I haven't bought any music from them yet and I don't plan to, but I'm not saying I never will. I just might, someday. I'm glad they finally removed the copy protection, but I wish the quality was slightly higher.

Thanks, I tried everything and I can't get the password back. I think it may have been set up on an old email that I no longer use, but I am not sure of that. I just gave up on that a long time ago. One of those things I guess with computers haha...

I never buy music from itunes. I agree with you that buying there is expensive. Better to look for somewhere cheaper. You are not wrong in using their player because you are not alone, there are many people who do the same.

Thanks for adding. I think I will stick with the way I get my music and just use the player. If they didn't want people to use it, they wouldn't give it away.

I occasionally buy music from iTunes. I think the prices are fairly reasonable especially when you only want one or two songs from a cd. But I prefer to have a physical cd in my collection, so I generally rip music from cds to my iTunes. It's not wrong to use the player when you don't buy music from them, I know lots of people who use the player and never pay for any music, from iTunes or otherwise!

Thank you for your response. I agree that it is okay to use the player in any case. There is a reason that you can download it for free right? Thank you!

I usually buy music from Itunes because of a few things: 1) The prices are reasonable 79p or 99p there are both fine... 2) I always no the songs will go on correctly on my Ipod.. 3) I like how you get not only store but a free music player aswell... I sometimes use CD's but then you find they are some file that Ipod cannot recognise.. I dont think your wrong to use player without buying if so they shouldn't have provided the player in the 1st place... hope this helps..

Very good thoughts. Thank you for them and yes, why would they offer it for free if they didn't want people to use it. Probably a good business move for them since they make a lot of money through selling music to others as well who wouldn't have bought from them if there wasn't this convenience.

Why buy music from Itunes when you can download it for free in some websites. I am not supporting music piracy but that is just the wisest thing to do. I don't have a credit card so I cannot buy from both Itunes or Amazon.

I understand what you are saying, however, you can't say those sentences in the same breath. It just doesn't make sense. You can't say that you aren't promoting piracy and then promote it. It may seem like the wisest thing to do when you download from free sites, but is it worth the penalty if you get caught doing it? That's why people download from Itunes and other such sites. Because it's the legal way to do it.
