What? Have you ever hear sentence like this?
My younger dog is little chubby, but not overweight (per vet)
When I was giving her food, my house guest said: “Don’t give her more food, she is too heavy...”
Person who said this is overweight and she likes to eat (a lot)
[b]What would you say if you were me?

I'd tell the fat lady that she shouldn't eat either, she's too heavy

What a cool and understated comment, Pola. Good job. I like it. It is not really mean, just pointed. I wish it would make her think. I guess you could have asked her if she wanted to eat the dog's food instead.

oh my, she is able to eat two huge steaks at once...I mean huge...
I am vegetarian and her family wanted her to be on my diet and loose weight, but it didn't happen...(good thing that she can not read this(!), she doesn't use Internet)

well..irregardless of the speaker's weight,i'd tell her "thanks, but it's my dog".i used to catch hell over my 34.5 pound cat.the vet said he was perfectly healthy, matter of fact lived to 17.he was just a big boy.

no,actually he was a "traditional" russian blue.
the vet told me traditionals as opposed to the "modern" siamese like blues tend to get big sometimes too.
however,my vet called him an extreme example
he was quite active despite of it,nothing slowed him down :)

I would be tempted to say something I should not like "pot can't call kettle black" but maybe she sees herself in that too.

I might say (depending on how nasty I felt at the moment) "The vet doesn't think so. What does YOUR doctor tell YOU?"

Oh, Pola!
What a common rudeness that is! It's tempting to point out that you know what you're doing, but it doesn't help. People will say that about others' pets or even their children. Most of the time, your response really doesn't matter. Maybe you could just thank her for the observation and stop the discussion.
A woman at work who is easily 400 pounds comments if anyone gains or loses a pound or two at all -- just the way some people are.

I have heard it but not pertaining to a animal. I would tell the person that like humans a animal has to eat to survive. That until the vet says for you to change things that you will feed your dog as you do. And if I wanted to be rude which I am not really... I would ask if she wanted to exercise with the dog since she thought the dog was to big and they would shed a few pounds together..cruel it is..

Every animal, including humans, needs to eat something. We can't starve our pets. Give her what she NEEDS to eat, but don't spoil her, or let her gorge on food. I'm sure you're doing that already, because as you said, she's chubby but not overweight. Too much of any extreme is not a good thing.

Even if the thought crossed my mind, as I saw a friend feeding a pet that I considered a little heavy, there's no way I'd be rude enough to make a comment. From your description of your friend, I'd probably come back with something like, "people in glass houses ...," or "the pot calling the kettle ...." Have a great day.

Hi Pola!
I think the person who suggested you was thinking in her mind that as her Doctor advices her not to go for over eating and eat in moderation and she is being deprived of delicious dishes, same formula she should apply for your chubby dog. Perhaphs she forgot that there is a difference between your dog and 'her'. Hope you would have taken her advice lightly.
Hugs!

I didn't pay attention to her advice, because my dogs eat not much per day, compare to my guest...

Well, I will tell her what the vet told me and feed my dog anyways.
(I also would say it will matter to me what kind of friend she is to me-lol- is it important that she does not get mad with me, etc)
But overall I will listen, and then do whatever I want.

Your young dog just likes to eat and not exersize. If this dog is under 1 1/2 years old change the dog food or just reduce food a very small amount...
DO NOT REDUCE THE FOOD ALOT OR THE DOG WILL START STEALING FOOD FROM OTHER DOG OR FROM YOUR TABLE !!!!!!!! THIS DOES HAPPEN. Remember chage to a better food more exercise, the dog will luv u 4 it.... PURINA BENEFUL ETC. I AM NOT IN DOG FOOD SALES, JUST LUV AND CARE 4 PETS..
DON'T SAY ANYTHING IT'S YUOR DOG...
REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV YOUR PET/ DOG , THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

Hello; sometimes people feed their pets good dog food, but . I didn't realize 7.5 years, I thought by the way u where writing maybe 2 at most.. Any way feed just a little less , more exercise!!!

I would just tell her that the vet says it is okay, and that you and the little dog will work off some of it later. Or I might say, "She is very active and burns it off, and so I will give her some more." If I was feeling a little hateful I might ask her who she was talking about and if she would like me to take away her food as well while we put the little dog on a diet.

yes, maybe in her mind she is skinny....some people don't look at mirror...
In reality my younger dog likes to eat, she doesn't mind to finish after cat if she is hungry, but again, she is build strong with short legs and it makes her look heavy...
HUGS

Hi pola,
that is a bit of a cheek saying that about your dog, when she is overweight herself, well I would just say to her that the dog is just like her, hehehe.
