Anyone read "Kindred" by Octavia Butler?

I was wondering if anyone has read "Kindred" by Octavia Butler". It is about an African Americam woman from the 1970's that gets transported back in time to the days of slavery and meets her ancestors.
When I worked in the library in college, I found this book on the shelf and checked it out. I read it in about 2 days.
Octavia Butler is considered a science fiction writer but this book is usually found in the fiction section or in the African American literature section in any bookstore. I have read that even Ms. Butler does not consider this book science fiction despite the time travel aspect. She has descibed it as a "grim fantasy".

Must have been a good read to have gotten through it that quickly. I am always looking for a good read. And the time to read it. Don't have much of that with a 6 month old and a 6 year old , lol. Thanks for the suggestion. I will keep it in mind.
