Anybody here been to Japan before??? Tips and advice please...

Hi all... I and my hubby will be going to Japan in about 5 months time... We will be visiting 5 cities: Tokyo, Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima... We are just wondering whether any of you had been to Japan on a self-guided tour before and can offer us any tips and advices as it will be very helpful for us... I've never been there...I'm not real big on the whole world travel thing. There are some beautiful places to see though. You might check with the hotel your staying at for local points of interest. Also you might want to review their laws, what we consider alright might get you caned over there. Better safe then sorry.
