I have long been a fan of newspapers. In earlier years it was the best form of communication across the globe. Nowadays with the invention of the Internet, the newspapers are suffering. Not as many read them. I love them, especially the old, old newspapers, as historical documents. They carry a wealth of information about earlier times that can never be replaced. I wish all the old newspapers could be converted to the Internet so that they can be preserved for future generations. I hope that newspapers continue to thrive as they are a valuable resource for all of us.

It has long be talked that newspaper will disappear when Internet is becoming more and popular but in reality, the newspaper industry is still doing well. I think that while there are so much "news" that we can read from online media so easily, it is still preferable to actually holding a newspaper at the cafe or before breakfast to learn what is happening around the world. The fact the story usually goes deeper in the newspaper makes them still my favorite.

I definitely agree with you and hope that newspapers will continue to thrive. Lots of people who commute to work, like on the train, still do read the newspaper while they are traveling. You are also right in saying that the story goes deeper in the newspaper. It is a tradition that a lot of us hold dear to our hearts and I sure hope it will never go away.

Yes, just like me, I always read the newspaper in the morning while I am traveling to work. And looking around me, there are many people doing the same thing like me. Using a device to go online to hunt for news in this situation is simply much more troublesome.

No, don't want to put your brother out of business! Even if they do convert to being on line, I hope there are still print copies available as another poster has indicated, not everyone has access to the Internet.

I'll try once more... keep getting this message: unable to post content. please modify your text to only include letters, numbers, and standard punctuation. When I had to pull up some of the floor to address a plumbing problem in my last house, I found some newspapers from the 1800s. They were in great shape. I gave them to the local historical society. When I had part of the kitchen floor pulled up in this house, I found newspapers from the 50s between the different layers of linoleum. They weren't in as good condition, but I kept a couple pages.

Oh, what a nice find! That was very nice of you to donate the newspapers! When my mom was young they found newspapers in an old house that went back to the Civil War. My mom said she carted those around with her as she moved around the Country. She finally got rid of them, so unfortunate. I don't think she thought to donate them. A tragic waste. I am glad that you did the best for those valuable documents.

Sadly newspapers are slowly disapearing. I dont suscribe to any newspaper. I get my news online or tv. My parents still suscribe to our hometown newspaper. I think the local newspapers are doing better than the national ones. At least in my area.

It definitely is a sad result of the evolution of our society. A lot of good things have come about over the last 50 years or so but the decline of the newspaper is something I don't want to see. They are such valuable resources for future generations.

Newspapers will not go out of fashion come what may. It is here to stay till the end of the world. Internet is not accessible to each and every one on the globe. We at home have the computer but still reading newspaper in the morning is like a bedtea.

I hope you are right meapas. You are correct that the Internet is not accessible to everyone. Hopefully this fact will be enough for the newspapers to be able to stay alive. However, I fear that at least some may follow the way a lot of businesses have gone in that they have become unsustainable and have needed to close. This would be very unfortunate as the newspapers are valuable resources, especially for historical reasons.

Hi, momie. Newspapers are not valued the same as before ever since the Internet was invented. Compared with the Internet, newspapers have many disadvantages. First, to print newspapers, the newspaper offices have to use a lot of paper which has to be made from woods. It has been long worried by many people that we're cutting woods to the point of excess. From the sense of enviromental protection, newspapers do more harm to the enviroment than the Internet. Second, the Internet often provides a more quick update of news than newspaper. Well, I do not mean that newspapers have nothing good. They are more convenient to carry. We see many people in buses or subway reading newspapers. Yet, to scan news on the Internet, we'll first have to make sure our computers are hooked to the Internet, which might be impossible for those living in remote places. So newspapers help those who haven't enough time or Internet access to keep up with the latest news. Overall, both newspapers and Internet have their respective advantages. We should make use of them according to our own preference.

hi momiecat, Newspaper have been threatened since internet has become popular and i know many houses where they dont subscribe to any newspaper or magazine. In our house we always get two newspaper and 3 magazines. Times of India and Hindustan Times are two papers we subscribe to . I never read paper online and i dont feel like reading a paper if it is online and yes despite the popularity of internet over newspaper, the paper is here to stay and still most people enjoy their morning tea with newspaper.

Yes, newspapers nowadays is already replaced with news organization who provides news services via websites. It's actually pretty alarming because sooner or later, newspapers will already become a thing of the past! I only read newspapers just for reading opinions and the entertainment sections. Headline news can actually be found on websites and television and even on radios. Maybe people got bored with newspapers because they provide late news, unlike from television or in the internet wherein they provide news as it happens.

Internet is no substitue for newspapers. Despite growing use of internet, millions of people still read newspaers. Surely, newspapers are on decline.

it is true that the old newspapers are a wealth of knowledge, but in this day and age, I believe that trees should be let alone. The use of paper should die out, and the world should use computers are the main way of sharing information.
