My Cat's a TV Junkie

I awoke to a house full of strange sounds this morning. I identified the rain coming in spasms, the drip drip drip of the little leak in my furnace vent pipe, and finally that irritating hummmmm. That was the aerator in my grand daughter's fish aquarium. They are out of town for the weekend and I'm fish sitting. Ok I got settled in, made coffee and started making breakfast when another sound joined all the rest of the unaccustomed cacophony. I turned slowly, listening to find where it came from. I followed the sound to the living room to find that my TV was on. I have a converter box which is on a timer and it wasn't on so the TV was just static. I looked around in bewilderment and there on the end table sat my cat. I had picked up her toys and put them on the end table while I vacuumed and didn't put them back on the floor. She was sitting on the TV remote playing with her toys! Does you cat have any unusual abilities or habits?

I have one of those pull string lights in one room and the cats would jump up and pull it on and off:)! I have made it higher now so they can't reach it, but they still sometimes try to play with it. One also likes to sit on the top of the computer screen and chase the cursor with his paw:) They also have that special ability that all cats seem to have... the feed me / pet me cutie eyes that make you feel as if they are communicating to you telepathically:)!

LOL Cats are so cute!. . .and irritating. Gracie gave up on the cutie eyes a long time ago and got much more vocal and demonstrative. Very loud meowing any time I go through the kitchen and if I'm sitting still she pushes her head under my hand. If I don't pet her she bites! Fortunately she's old and all but one of her fangs are gone.

Our cats h ave been known to change the channel but what they are best known for is sending rude IM's and sometimes blank emails.

So far Gracie stays away from the computer (keeping my fingers crossed) but she has been known to reset the TV remote and converter box remote to default settings on several occasions. Talk about one confused Mama! I'm not too technically savvy and getting everything reset is a booger.

well, so far the worst they have done is move files on the roommate, but she's been able to find most of them so far

Dogs are adorable in a different kind of way than cats. I've had both but I think cats are easier to care for, even if they are "bossy".

Sounds to me, like you should be a writer. Very descriptive and interesting story you have there. Why don't you expand on it? And write a full length?

Hey, why not give http://articlewritingincome.com a try with your writing. After traffic picks up, the site is suppose to start paying out.

Thanks Shirley. I use myLot to practice. I thought and thought and thought and that's all my pea brain could come up with. I'm used to writing serious facts, not telling true stories about silly cats. Maybe in time I'll get better. Welcome to mylot.

My cat Jake has unusual abilities, he amazes me sometimes with the things he does. Every morning when my husband gets up, Jake will meow and meow and meow, until my husband feeds the fish. After the fish are fed, Jake gets a little of it too. Jake will scoop his dry cat food into his water bowl too, he will drag the food bowl close enough so that he can dunk.

Yeah! Feed those fish and fatten them up. Yumm! As for dunking, are you sure Jake's a cat? Sounds like a raccoon.

You know, my cat gets up every morning, climbs up on the counter and pushes the button on the coffee maker. I set every thing up the night before so, when she pushes the button, viola! Coffee is ready for hubby when I get up! OH! Wait a minute! I don't have a cat! heehee!

{giggles} Does hubby know you're likening him to a cat? He is the one that pushes the button in the morning, yes?

Being the owner of several cats there are a few weird ones. Fluff-n-Stuff will sit and stare at the water bowl until I fill it. I think she thinks it's magic. Captain Jax flushes the toilet, which often scares me cause I think someone else is in the house. Mrs.Meow Meow climbs on our pool latter when we are swimming and won't stop crying til we put her in.She loves it. We started her swimming with us when she was a little kitten. Batman jumps up onto the dresser, then to the top ledge of the door then flies to the bed. Usually he does this 5 or more times in a row.(Like a kid on a sliding board) I wonder if your cat jumped when she turned the t.v. on? So cute.

LOL I love cat stories. I don't know if she jumped or not, she doesn't seem too affected by noises unless they're very loud.

my tuxedo cat butt dials the tv all the time. to be fair though,he usually picks some pretty cool stuff while he's doing it. i used to have a russian blue that answered the phone..sort of. he'd knock it off the reciever and meow in it.i'm not sure why he did that,i think the ringing made him mad.

Wow wow wow! your kitty is a mini genius. How wonderful! You should catch this on film and send in to "Funniest Home Videos" or at least some other thing that features most talented animals! Thanks for sharing that awesome summary of your TV lover! :o)

LMAO!! Hi Bead: Oh that is funny! My cat Screamer does this all the time, she can't turn on the TV with the VCR/remote I have a very old TV and you have to TURN IT ON with a knob, its 32 years old...(G)! Anyway my tv stations are programmed through my DVD/VCR player and that way I do have a remote she can change the channel with her big old butt when it hits that remote just right no matter where I sit it, at some point in the day time she is gonna be laying on it, and or change the channel right during a good part of the show you know? And if I go to look for my remote sure enough she is laying on it while taking her nap, you'd think it would be a tad bit uncomfortable with her laying on the darn thing, she doesn't care when its time to nap she is a nappin!! Have fun fish sitting..LOL!

I wonder what it about the remote controls that attracts them. Gracie seems to seek out the remote to lay on no matter where I put it. Fish sitting, oh yeah, I haven't fed him this morning. Guess I'd better go do that.

I don't have cats. I don't love pets in my house cause for me they cause harm. Good for you, you love cats.

I love cats, our cat has done same kind of tricks too, except it was when i left the remote control on sofa and my cat went to sleep to the sofa and accidentally stepped on it and put it on, i wondered where the sound came when i arrived at home and realized that the tv was on and my cat was sleeping on the sofa. These things are always fun, but sometimes scare the hell out of you lol. I like cats and all kinds of animals and especially when they do something amazing like "watch" tv on their own permission! :)

All cats seem to have "lay on the remote" syndrome.
