I love the black licorice. I found in some research I was doing one time that black licorice helps a woman with hormonal balance. Oh, I enjoy the strawberry and cherry but the licorice is so good. It is the annis in it I suppose. Any thoughts? Anyone else as crazy as i am?

Yes, indeed. My grand daughter always picks out the black jellie beans and gives them to me. Luck, huh?

You're not alone! I love black licorice. I don't have it very often though, because the good kinds tend to be pricey and my husband doesn't care for it much. I do love the anise flavor, and you're right that anise has some medicinal purposes as well. If you like the flavor, you can also try anise tea as a digestive aid or to sooth a cough.

Oh, yes. The anise tea is great. It is actually one of the ingredients in an diuretic I use. Thanks.

I don't really care for any kind of licorice at all, and I really don't like the taste of black licorice.

CE- I use black licorace when sick, but I don't care for it just for pleasure eating. I tend to go with strawberry myself. Though, I no longer eat string licorice because of accident that occured when I was 12. I was eating a piece of the spaghetti string licorice when I choked. Upon my mother getting it out, I had scraped both the windpipe and esophagus causing minor swelling. So, I have avoided it since then and stuck with bite size licorice. Our problem is we can't keep is stocked. Whenever I buy a package our son comes in asking for "strawberries please" and ends up eating them up lol. Namaste-Anora

Yes, the flavoring is very much like anise, but I believe licorice root is totally different from anise or other similarly flavored herbs. I like it okay, but do not crave it. There are some interactions with various medications, but I think that is only if you use licorice as an herbal supplement or take an excessive amount of the candy. It has been shown to help protect the stomach when using aspirin. Some websites say it soothes sore throats. On the other hand if you take ACE inhibitors, blood pressure meds, digoxin or insulin you should be conservative in your intake of licorice. If you are on hormones or birth control pills you need to monitor your blood pressure if you eat lots of licorice.

Yes, there is the actual licorice root that I am able to find in the co-op. But I think alot of the cheaper stuff I eat is made with anise. Good info, thank you.
