Okay, this might sound absurd, but my system was infected with a Trojan ranked 1st by McAfee. Lol!!
Now, the damage it caused made my PC unrepairable and ate up the whole OS!!
My Hard disk was destroyed and I couldn't format it again ever.
It damaged my Ethernet port.
God, that was miserable!!

I have been a computer PC technician for over 12 years. Dealing with viruses, spyware and malware is a pain. Going through the tough job in using various antivirus programs including antispyware to remove such harmful programs. What's even more complex is that since some programs that prevents or remove viruses not all the time can remove them since it is stuck and running in the memory of the system. Then in that case going through the steps in removing them manually where the virus installs itself. In 2003, working then back in the helpdesk technician call centers, I remember the world that went through the Blaster Worm virus that has shut down systems after 1 minute from the RPC shutdown causing a DoS attack through the network. Clever how these hackers can create programs just to cause severe issues in one's computer. What a bummer for one to even face those issues. Now if to say that while repairing computers for a living, I have to say one of the deadliest and severe symptoms of having a virus would be called the Vundo Trojan Horse virus. This also contains malware and spyware. What happens is that once this file is installed, it will take over (hijack) the desktop creating a fake security alert that your system is infected (which of course it is). Therefore, the fake security alert then installs a fake antivirus program making you think you do have protection, but only makes matters worse. It will then install different host files through your network to make them hidden. So once you go online, the infection becomes active causing internet connectivity issues and even multiple popups. This is one of the viruses that is very difficult to remove and can be a living hell. Even some of the toughest antivirus programs wouldn't be able to remove it. Now to say which antivirus/antispyware programs are good to use I would go with Webroot Spy Sweeper, HijackThis, SpyBot Search & Destroy or even Kaspersky Antivirus with internet security.

Haha, i remember this blaster virus. Im also a technician but didnt pursue that job anymore cause i went in other country. Anyways, i remember those days when i and my partner work together to service a customer who had a problem on her computer. At first i though its only wiring and cable problem but after figuring out it was a virus called "blaster" . I also give up trying to fix that for two weeks or more. The owner think us it wont get fix and rather give it to other technician. Lucky we fix it,. That is a memorable experience to me that i wont forget all my life.

Hi there Rad Han Air. I think the worse virus i came across was jeefo.exe. This is a nasty virus that infects random (but many) of your exe files, and even if removed, a file once infected will not work properly after it is cleaned - at least that's what happened back then when i came across it.
The thing is that i had a free bitdefender 8 version, that wasn't by far as good as the paid one - i mean it cleaned the infection but it let the virus get in in the first place, so i never installed it again.
Since i have been using F-secure i have never had problems with virus that he couldn't handle it - i mean some viruses had occasionaly tried to get in, but it kicked them off before they downloaded into my computer.

The nastiest virus that I have encountered is the W32/Virut Virus. I've heard its a newly discovered virus and most of the antivirus companies hasn't yet discovered the cure for it. Others even describe it as an incurable virus since it always come back after pc reformatting.
It took me weeks before I discovered on how to disinfect my pc from it.
Virut is a polymorphic file infector which spreads all around the drive and infects even files infected by another virus previously. It tries to connect you into an IRC network under the user name "Virtu" and zombify you.
Even reformatting your pc won't do any good. Because the virus would still come back. They are just hiding on the .exe files.
One of the symptoms that your pc is infected by Virut virus is that your .exe files are being destroyed. Which makes your computer useless or nonfunctional. It also slows down your internet connection.
When your pc is infected with this virus, it automatically downloads other kinds of viruses on the internet. A very big pain on the computer owner.
Fortunately, I have asked some help from symbianize.com members and they shared their knowledge about it.
I got rid of it by downloading the AVG's virut removal tool. Its a special anti virus tool from AVG which removes the Virut virus and other similar viruses. This anti virus works differently from other anti viruses. When you run this, it scans your pc automatically and then asks you to reboot your pc. After rebooting, the antivirus then starts disinfecting your computer. Why a reboot is needed for disinfection? So that the viruses won't interrupt the process of disinfecting... The disinfecting usually takes longer hours compared to normal scanning.. I even left my computer running while I went to school. When I came back, the disinfecting is still not finished.. But the long hours of waiting was worth it. I got rid of the nasty virus successfully. What I did with those remaining viruses is I scanned it with my antivirus (AVIRA ANTIVIR) and my anti-malware tool...
After doing those actions, my pc was finally Virus free.. My internet connection was back to normal...

I got viruses manier time, that too not a fault of my antivirus but I like to invite viruses to come. Mostly I disable antivirus and download viruses and check it's impact.. I was attacked by one trojan horse which get my yahoo password and I really like to challenge it alot. on the next day I traced it.. cleaned my system and attack with the same virus to the host system. I like to play with it :-)

Over the years, I've had some really bad viruses
on my computers. Viruses and trojan horses killed
my last three computers.
Since then I've upgraded my firewall and
use PC Tools Spyware Doctor every day.

Plus I keep my temporary files cleaned out
several times a day as that is usually the place
most viruses enter.
Once you reboot they install.
So clean out your temp files before shutting down
your computer.
I use Comodo System cleaner which is free and really works.

For me, virii tend to be more irritating than really dangerous.
I did have the Conficker virus which is a malware worm that contained a dialer to 800+ overseas numbers. Since I already have a block on toll calls and my ISP also screens phone numbers, it just became a hassle to get rid of it.
It didn't help that my FlashMemory was infected and continued to infect other computers, but I was going to reinstall my old computers in the end.
I'm already aware of how the virus entered my system, so I don't download software from a certain site. Now I just get it from the site that has programmed the software.
BTW, my old computers were in need of reinstalling new upgrades of Windows software.

I think it was named as Tantanos, Heurs, and Sallity..(I'm not quite sure if these are the correct spelling.=)) They try to infect all of your executable files even your system files such as rundll32.exe and explorer.exe. So every time those infected executable files were executed, at the very first process of the application, it executes first the viral then it loads up the real process for the application. So, the very best thing for this is to format your entire hard drive. I didn't find yet an easier solution for this. I tried to use AVG or Antivir but they delete the exe file rather than healing.

I don't know, how many viruses have strucked my computer before, but once there was kind of a mix of these viruses. They kept preventing me from reinstalling the windows, even in safe mode. I couldn't also format the drive or do anything else to clean up my PC. One of the viruses also set up a blue screen screensaver and lost my ability to change my desktop options.
Finally, it ended with buying myself a new hard drive, because old one is so ruined by viruses, I can't format it even now!

The most dangerous virus will be the ones that infects payment processors. Most of them are made by professional hackers all over the world... and I'm thankful that I never come across those. Whenever I get trojans from visiting sites or downloading file I see to it that reformat my PC to remove it from the system. If your computer is prone to virus it can damage its built-in memory.
