Do you think it is better for schools in the Philippines to start school in June or September? In June we get many typhoons, hence classes get suspended a lot. September would be the month that schools in other countries begin classes. but if we start in September here that might mean extending the school year to until April and May, which is summer and very very hot - difficult for students to focus on studies.
In Canada they have summer break from around May until August (that's around four months!) can't we have vacation April till July maybe? Then start school August?

I think the best time to start school is around winter. It would have been a lot easier for me to get into the groove of going back to school if the first month was two weeks long. I like to pace myself. Teachers can't wait to give assignments after the first two days are over with. They don't get paid enough to start teaching so soon in my opinion. lol.

It's been tradition that classes start on June to give way for summer. We can never compare our education abroad because they have different seasons. We only have 2 seasons: summer and rainy season. Whether we move the beginning of classes or not, surely we'll find problems along the way. Climate change is inevitable. How can we be so sure that our summer season will not turn into rainy season? It is not a question of when to open our classes. The question here is what kind of education do we offer? Because even if we have many canceled classes, if we deliver quality education to students surely it will not be a problem to us.

For me, its still June because the end of the school year falls on March which is the start of summer and its very hard for the kids to stay in school if its very hot. we can always survive in the rain so its still tolerable.

I would rather stick to the June school opening and i dont want it to be moved or change. It is because we are already used with the school calendar and everyone will be appalled if it will be changed because vacation time during summer will be over for all and i dont prefer to go to classes in hotter days then the others are enjoying the sand and beaches while i am not.

I would think that September should be the best time to start the school year and end it up on mid june. Simply cause that time really do change enormously specially the climate, weather and other forms of global situations.
the education dept and the government should corroborate on this matter and talks this thru.
Site and example not just because typhoons and heavy rains do disrupts the start of the school year but the students itself are having hard time to cope for the weather conditions. flu are common on this times.
i am not sure if my comment is strong but i am hoping this can be heard to other. i am in favor for the movement of school year. from june to september.

The reason why they start their school year in September is because their summer season starts in late May and ends in late August. In our place we start our school year based on the seasons too. Our summer season starts in Early March and ends in Late May that is why we chose June to start our classes. So we basically are following the school year pattern of US they follow the seasons of the year in their place and so are we. That is why we call it Summer vacation. If we start to have vacation June to August it would not be called summer vacation anymore but rainy season vacation?
Changing the school year might just be confusing for the many students. It may be beneficial at first because many will have a longer vacation at the start of transition but in the following years it will just be the same again since you will have 9 months of school and 3 months vacation.

September is still typhoon month. I know because it's always raining on my husband and my daughter's birthdays (8 and 22). I think the current schedule is the most practical. I won't be under it though because I'll be homeschooling. :)

I guess June would be fine. Because if we tend to delay the start of school year, we won't have any summer vacation anymore.

There seems to be nothing wrong if classes were to start in September instead of June. I agree with you about typhoons in June and classes get suspended most of the time. It may be the right thing to do right now especially with the increasing number of cases of A(H1N1). I'm sure we're all aware of how classes are affected because of the virus. A lot of schools have been affected. It would be a big change, that's for sure -- but change is good.

i dont know about philipines, but yes for India, April is best time for the starting of school. As in march exams over and Children's have holidays for a couple of weeks. so after that they have fresh mind to start new class and study. After two monthe in June again they have time to take rest in summer vacation. so in Indian April is best time for starting a new session in School.
