I have had several brands of computers, and right now, I have a Dell laptop. I like it very much and think I will again buy a Dell when this one "wears out." How about you? Are you happy with your current computer? Will you buy the same brand again or try a different one? Karen

my HP laptop - This is my current computer. It's a HP laptop.
Before I bought my HP laptop, I was using a desktop which worked pretty well. But when I graduated, I found it very inconvenient to carry. So I decided to buy a laptop. There were so many brands there and I didn't know which brand to choose. Then I searched online for detailed information and finally bought a HP laptop. I've used it for a year and haven't encountered any problem with it. No blue screen, no crash or anything like that. I'm satisfied with it. If I'll buy another one, I'll still decided on a HP laptop.

Like you, I love the smaller size and the portability of a laptop as opposed to a desktop computer. I have my old HP laptop as a backup, and I love both that and the Dell I bought last. Thank you for sharing your preferences :) Karen

Hello PeacefulWmn9. I have a dell computer, I've had it for many many years. I'm not happy with my computer at all. The next time I get a computer I will personally build it myself or have my boyfriend build it for me. You can get good parts for cheap and you can personally make it fit your needs and desires. I will NOT buy a dell ever again.

I'm sorry you don't like your Dell. For those of us that use them often, a good computer is a true blessing. Twice, I've had a professional build one for me, but it crashed so often! I did not go that route again. I hope you have great luck when yours is built. :) I am happy with my Dell laptop :) Thank you for responding. Karen

Hello Mirage. I also have loved my Dell laptops! I think it's good, once we find a brand that works well for us, to stick with it. It's that we know they are reliable :) Thank you for sharing your preference. Karen

I have never tried a Mac either, but I've heard a lot of wonderful things about them. Too bad we couldn't try various brands for a month or so, just to see if they do what we need them to do :D

I have an HP and it has memory issues. It overheats and shuts down and that drives me nuts. I am looking for a computer that can operate in the desert!

My HP was purchased in 2005 so it isn't that old either. I was in an air conditioned room yesterday and it still shut off! It is driving me nuts!

Hello Canellita...they have small personal fans or desktop fans that are very reasonable in price. If you have one or get one and aim it at your computer, that might prevent it from over-heating and shutting down. How frustrating that must be!

I know that over-heating can be a big issue, and so can humidity! I had an HP before I got the Dell. I liked it, but I did have more trouble with it than with the Dell I have now. The HP isn't that old, but it needs to be taken to the shop for fixing! I hope your computer issues work out. Karen

I'm a bit of a techno weeny so, I don't usually buy factory built machines. However, I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite M305D-S4831, and I am in love. 4 gigs of ram, 2.0 Ghz AMD processor, and I dropped a 500 gig hard drive in here. such performance, such mobility, one hell of a small package. Roughly 800$ all together. I'll have to say, I might end up getting another Toshiba. Although, nothing quite compares to a machine that you put together to your specifications with your own hands, the smell of new parts, the feel of an empty case, the sight of all the bells and whistles put together can make a man feel like a child at Christmas.

not to mention the fact that when you build your own machine, you don't end up with a bunch of useless crap filling up your drive when you take it out of the box...

Ohhh, I wish I knew how to build my own. I can well imagine the excitement of that. So glad you love what you've done with the Toshiba, too :D Thank you for your input. Karen

I have Dell laptop and I still think it works very well. Although I bought it two years ago. Dell computer has a good quality. Besides, I am very satisfied with their service. Its price is also very reasonable compares to other brands. If I am going to buy a computer again, Dell will be my choice. I love China

I am on my second Dell laptop now, and like you, I have been very pleased with both of them. I no longer have a desktop pc. Now that I am used to them, I find the laptops so much more compact and portable! Thank you for your input. Karen

I have a Compaq presario laptop. I am so happy with it. I have never had any complaint with it untill recently. Now there is a problem in its screen. But since it has been more than 3 years since I bought it I think it is usual. I must replace my screen soon. If I have to buy a new computer, I would certainly go for Compaq as it is cheaper than most of it's rivals in the market.

Yay! I'm glad you found a brand you love. And yes, it is likely after three years that something will need a bit of repair or replacement. It is nice to know that there is an inexpensive brand out there that performs well. Thank you for sharing that. Karen

I think many of us would love the highest end computers, but yes, we do have to work within our budget. I have Mac is particularly good for graphics, but am not that familiar with Acer. As long as it does what you need and is within your cost range, that is good. Karen

I also have a Dell laptop, and it's the first computer at home I've ever had. It's doing fine, so I guess I'd get a Dell again. But I know there are many good varieties of laptops out there...so who knows? Maybe I'd try another brand. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!! Take care Karen!

Hello Marcy :) I am glad you're enjoying the Dell. The first computer we get for home use is always an exciting thing to own, yes? I've had several kinds by now, and they all worked well enough, but I do love my Dell! Karen

This is my first laptop and its a Toshiba. I love it dearly since this is my first one but so far its doing great. If I were to buy another computer I would buy a mac laptop. I will definitely keep this and just buy a new one because this is valuable to me. Mac computers are the best but since this laptop was given to me and I did not have to buy it this is working great.

That is great! Nothing can beat the price of "free." LOL. I'm glad you enjoy your Toshiba. I love my Dell laptop and also the HP I have as a backup. I like to keep the last computer when I buy a new one, just in case. I feel it is important, since I work online, though in a pinch, I could use a pc at the public library. Thank you for your response. Karen

I think many companies use Dell or Apple. I know how pleased I am with my Dell. I am happy to hear that you also like the brand. Computers are such a big part of what we do now, that it is a blessing to have one that is reliable. Thank you for your input :) Karen

Hello PeacefulWmn9,I have a dell desktop that is about six years old and a HP laptop I like them both the dell is getting old and starting to have problems though, the poor old thing HA! HA! I think that the next desktop that I get will be an HP though because I like the looks of the touch screen model that I have been drooling over.

Ah, so you are drooling over the touch-screen computer? LOL, that is cute actually. When I had my last desktop pc, it was an HP, and I loved it. It worked very well and last for many years with no repairs but one needed. I have a small apartment now and use a Dell laptop...very much a space saver for me, and I like it, too. Have a beautiful day and thank you for responding. Karen

I know people have a love/hate relationship with computers lol. Some love one, some another, but I haven't tried an Apple yet, except when I took a computer class, but that was a long time ago. I've heard Apple is great with graphics.

I have used only two brands. Compaq and LG. One laptop and another desktop. In office I have used HCL though but for a brief time period. I could hardly make out any major difference for I have the same processor and same OS on the both. Having said that, I have a fancy for Dell and Toshiba. May be will opt for any one of the two next time I go for a change.

I'll probably look for another "brand" computer because I've got good service when my current one has broken down. It's in the shop now, and although I could fix the Hard Drive problem myself, I thought it better to send it back. That way I'll get a new HD. I'll probably try out a different brand of computer next time rather than building one.

I agree that a "ready-made" computer is better covered with warranties than a home-made one. I wouldn't know how to build one anyway! Thank you for your input. Karen

There are a wide range of brands and products available in the market nowadays. Its easy to find the good ones out of the lot, but its a lot harder to find the most suitable one for yourself out of the lot. If budget is not a factor while buying a PC or laptop, I would prefer buying HCL, Alienware or HP. Dell's maintenance costs are comparatively higher than most brands hence I wouldn't recommend Dell for beginners.

I've had an HP, and liked it, but have not heard of HCL. I have loved the two Dell laptops I've had, and in my particular area, found the few repairs needed on the first one, which I bought used, very reasonable. Thank you for adding your own preferences :) Karen

I am using old version of IBM Thinkpad. It already 6 years and only changed battery last year. Every thing looks normal. Even I have changed to Ubuntu-linux, It is working still fast and stable (no.. beep.. beep). If it is going fail that I will thinking to buy Dell laptop Latitude. Because new Lenovo Thinkpad design is not good looking and weak.
