As y'all all know i am the typical grandmother & maybe too much but i haven't written about my grandson in awhile so just bear w/me. Yesterday my phone rang & this voice said hi bobo. Well that automatically made my day. He said, bobo, i'm bored. i ask where he was & he was at his mom's work. i said where is dad. answered he's here to. i said do u want me to come get u? oh yeah, he was all for that. . i told him to ask his parents if i could & he wouldn't do it. I got tickled at him of course. My son got on the phone & teasingly i told him he was going to have to quit taking my grandson to boring places. my son said i hate it for him & laughed. DO u remember being bored at four years old? I don't think i knew the word bored till i was grown.

Hi usually give them a pencil and a piece of paper and they stop being bored immediately. I think you are lucky that he wants to keep doing things as you hear of so many children now that dont want to do a thing! One other thing please dont stop writing about your Grandson as I for one will love reading them all.

He is such a cute and lovable boy and the first person he thought when he is bored is his grandmother, brings a lot of delight to any grandmothers. I have not experienced such a beautiful moment conversing with my grandchildren. I am dreaming to be a grandmother but it is unlikely to happen in the next couple of years from now. Children at that age who knows the meaning of boredom is a smart boy. Everything else doesn't seems to appeal to him and prefers to be in the company of people much older then him. He is a child that doesn't fancy doing things for his age. You can discover a lot of surprises from him at this tender age if you keep talking to him. It happen to my son when he was at that age. No amount of toys will pacify him and he needs something more challenging to spend his time. I gave him a lot of encouragement to do what he wanted which lead him to be a successful man now in his adult life. When he was small he always complained of boredom as his thinking is more advanced than his age.

Thanks Zandi, he is the apple of my eye. U will love being a grandmother when it comes about. Grandchildren are wonderful. When he is here we have a big time. I TRY TO FIND SOMETHING TO DO THAT HE WILL ENJOY. He loves being outside so that's where we usually are. He rules the roost when he is here.

e had few toys and made our own fun. When I was at home alone with my mother I remmber feeling confused as she was deaf and I di not understand why she would not talk to me or answer when I spoke. I remmber that clearly. But I had a whole host of imaginary friends and we would get up to all sorts of adventures whilst my sisters were at school. During the summer we were sent out with sandwiches, water, and an old blanket to go and play. We were not expected home until the evening. My mother was really very careless with me as there were so many war bombed buildings that were dangerous. We lived in a Naval Town that was bombed regularly by the Germans and we would play in these bombed buildings or go to the beach all day. Bored? No. We made our own fun. Gave concerts to the neighbours and sand and danced our hearts out too.

WE MADE OUR own fun to. Bless your heart & your mom's. i bet that was confusing to u as a child. MY aunt was also deaf but she always wore a hearing aid & we knew that we had to give her special attention to make her hear us. we never ever thought we had to be entertained by the grownups. I'm sure if they had tried we wouldn't have liked it but kids don't know what it is to get out & play nowadays. when my grandson comes to see me i always try to get hin outside. He helped me wash my car the other day. Guess who was the westest woman in town.. we had a good time tho if he nearly did drown me. I'm glad u didn't get hurt in those buildings. bet u did have fun but bet they were dangerous.

Yes it was dangerous. I have always thought that my mother should have worn a hearing aid but in those days they were very big and she wa so pretty and very vain. Sad eally, that she preferred not to hear the voices of her children because she was deaf. She did have successful surgery when I was about 12 and then she used to complain that we shouted at her! yes it was dangerous but we survived and we only got presents at Christmas and on our birthday too. My twins loive to wash the car too. Kids just love water and 'helping'. Their mother comes in a bout a week. Excellent post dear friend.

I'M sorry your mother was that vain to miss your voice as a child. People do odd things, don't they. i'm glad at least she had the surgery & was able to hear, My aunt had surgery to but it was not succesful. too bad, she was such a nice lady. I thought it was about time for your daughter to be coming. didn't want to mention it & upset u. I know u will be soooo glad to see her even if she got a dirty deal w/her job. That's really a shame but have always heard everything happens for a reason altho we don't often understand why. KIDS want to help when they are not big enough & then when they are that usually stops.. right now ryan wants to help do everything & i always let him. he's sooooo sweet.

Funny, I don't remember being bored at four either. And like you, I don't remember being bored until I was an adult and even that rarely happens...carting kids here and there, I couldn't be bored if my life depended on it. Anyways, my two younger kids (11 and 13) woke up this morning and claimed how bored they were. I can't wait for summer to be over. I would be happy just sitting reading a book, but oh no, these kids have to be consistantly entertained 24/7. I love my kids, but they are driving me nuts this summer!!!!

that's odd u should say that, i had just answered shar's response & told her that kids did have to be entertained. we nver did we just got out & played every day all day long till we were made to come in the house. i guess we all have felt like u do at times. my sons always played baseball in the summer & that kept u running. kids do need to lear how to entertain themselves. hope things get better for u. thanks for your response.

My mom kicked us out of the house in the morning. We came home to eat lunch and then went right back outside until dinner time. Matter of fact, if I can remember correctly, we usually didn't even want to come in to eat we were happy just playing outside. And it didn't make a difference if the neighbors could play or not or if I played with my sister or not....I made my own fun all by myself if I had to. These kids have no imagination anymore. Oh well! I guess they will be back in school soon.

That gets on my last nerve when kids say that. Alot of them have more and get to do more than what we ever did as children but they say they are still bored. I was not bored at 4 years old. I found something to do or something to play with and made it fun, whatever it was.

That's too bad, i'm still having to entertain myself.. another thing i hear young people say alot is that they are tired. my little grandson even says that but his mom & dad say it all the time. I didn't know what tired was till i got alot older than they are.. MAYBE THERE'S HOPE FOR THEM.

my roomie's neice and nephews used to come visit when they were younger Now, there are PLENTY of things to do here, so the one word I forbade was "bored." I told them that if they were bored, they weren't trying hard enough and they didn't have to come back.

They make you laugh the little ones these days,my grandaughter is in a permanent state of boredom she is now six and so sophisticated,my teenage son tells me he is bored all the time.I say you are bored now you wait till you get to my age.The thing is these days they come on so quick in my day you were given a colouring book and you got on with it.I suppose we must have been the same only we cannot remember.I had to laugh the other days my grandson who is about the same age as your grandson started up he was bored as well.I told him not to start that up,he just picked up his toys and started playing."Ok Nanny" he said. Sometimes it is just something to say I often wonder if they now the true meaning, funny little things, love them.

Maybe i know the feeling of being bored when I was four but I don't know the term for it. Because I grew up with my grandparents and I was the only child in the house. So I don't have playmates. Well, sometime there are kids who was with their moms who drop by for casual talk and that's the only time I play with them. Your grandson is so smart. Kids now are smarter!!!

I don't think I knew what the word "bored" meant when I was four years old, either. I'm sure I got bored sometimes, though. I started kindergarten that year and I remember having to stay home a lot because I was sick so much. I had colds quite a bit. Or, at least my mother and the doctors thought they were colds. Nobody knew what allergies were back then. I just bet that's what they were because it was discovered that's what I had later in life. I still have allergies but not near as bad as I did. You can imagine how "bored" I must have gotten staying home so much. Kathy.

At four, I do not think I knew the word bored. My much older sister would do things to entertain me, tell me stories. My kids were told: If you are bored it means you have not furnished your minds properly. They were never bored as long as they could lay hands on a book, paper, pencil, etc. I ran a daycare, though, and that was all you would hear. I got bored of them, because they were not like my kids. I watched one family, though, in later years, that was a lot of fun. We would take walks and I remember finding huge sycamore leaves. We put them on like Peter Pan hats. Their mom, a teacher, said "Thanks a lot. I never could identify trees very well, and now Steven wants to make a book about leaves!" I imagine she did it, too, though. She was just teasing me. She had begged me to watch her kids while she worked that summer because she knew it would be a lot more than watching TV. That same year in her classroom at the Christian School, she made a raft out of recycled milk jugs.

WHen I was four we were living on a farm......80 acres of fun! We did have some guidelines though as we couldn't go down near the cattle tank or in weeds that were too tall as they were afraid that we would get lost....but I don't think I knew bored either until much later....if I had mentioned "bored" my mom would have shooed us outside!

lol That's cute!! Did you go get him? He sounds like a real cutie! I can't remember anything beyond 5 years old and barely remember bits and pieces after that. My past has put a memory block up so I can't remember much however, I do have a triggered memory where say my brothers would say something about something that happened and I'll either remember or I won't. I knew a gal in Texas that had a memory block and it could not be triggered no matter how hard her siblings tried. Thank goodness mine can be triggered for the most part anyways.

I don't remember when i was that young either really. I GUESS 5 YEARS OLD I HAVE A RECOLECTION OF A ROMAN CANDLE GOING OFF IN MY HAND. Never have liked fireworks since then.I think sometimes it can be a blessing not to remember some things. Have a great night. Hopr your folks have had a good day. jo

Like you, AL, I don't remember having a bored day in my life. Okay ... one or two, when our parents went bush to hunt for gemstones and it was hot and exhausting. I'm never bored now, either - in fact, there's not enough time to fit in all the books I want to read, telly I want to catch up on, and net-surfing activities! I don't understand boredom - but I think maybe today's children aren't encouraged to use their imagination as much as we probably were. Toys seem to be of limited play value and are often just hideously expensive fads. How many hours can be enjoyed watching a robotic dinosaur shuffle across the room? I remember spending hours making cut-out paper dolls and clothes to dress them in - not to mention writing little books and comics. There were also building blocks, hundreds of farm and zoo animals, little cars, etc. All cheap and endlessly amusing. Not to mention chucking a blanket over a couple of chairs to make a cubby!
