If you found that your paycheck was less than you expected, you would most likely talk to someone in authority to find out why. If it was found that shorting paychecks happened often, there would be an investigation.
No one questions whether or not an employer that doesn't pay employees a full paycheck is theft.
On the other hand, when employees short their employers, few people (other than the employer) cry foul. In fact, this kind of theft is not only common, it's laughed off.
Playing games, MyLotting, Blogging, or doing other things that aren't part of a person's job description is stealing. It is absolutely no different than the employer shorting a paycheck.
So are you a thief? Do you care if you are one?

i play on Yahoo canasta, I'm retired so I am hurting no one. But so many that play are at work and when we play them we have to wait till they answer the phone or wait on a customer. I have never had a job where they allow you to play cards while you working. My brother works as a graphic designer for a company and he says their software blocks out any site but theirs, maybe other companies should look into that. Some I have heard say well I have left them standing long enough guess I will go see what they want. To me I think they are stealing the employers time that he is spending them to wait on customers or do their job. Wonder how many employers know that this is going on.

Yeah, I get that "wait" a lot too. It bugs me when they come back and say, "sorry for the wait, my boss came in the room".

According to a University of Melbourne study, people who use Facebook, Youtube, and other sites like that while at work are actually more productive. It works by giving people a few minutes to step away from their work, check their e-mail or watch a funny video, then refocus on their work.
That doesn't mean you won't have the few useless workers that do nothing but slack off the entire time on the job -- but those people are going to slack off whether you allow them access to sites like Facebook and Youtube or not.

Exactly, thieves are thieves no matter what setting they are in.
Yes, it is good to take your mind off work for short periods throughout the day, however, that is up to the ones paying the wages, not the ones getting paid.

I stole once, but it was on accident. It was a New X-Men comic book and what happened was I bought one and had another with me, but the man at the counter did not scan the other, so I got the other for free basically. I did not say anything to him.

I know what you mean. At work I was asked to go to a job at 5 oclock in the evening (I finish at 4). It took me 3 hours to do the job and despite repeated efforts I've never been paid for those extra hours, which really angered me.
Yet I think nothing of taking an extra half hour on top of my lunch break every now and again :D
I admit it, i am a thief! :(
