I have a habit of reading the discussion entirely before posting my reply.......

I have this strange habit of reading each and every post made to the discussion before making my reply. So, most of my time on Mylot is spent on reading rather than on posting. This also affects the payments I get from Mylot. Anybody sharing the same situation like me here? I guess, that's the reason why I have not yet crossed the 500 mark even after being active for an year while members who have joined much later having a clear lead over me on the number of posts count. How do you manage between reading and posting here on Mylot?

I think you have to improve your reading speed. Some people suffers like this because of the inability to read quickly and conceive the points discussed.Otherwise, reading every post and responses before leaving your own response or comment is the right thing to do here.Cheers!

That's what I do too and when I'm reading the responses if I see a friend I usually stop off and say something - like right now

I don't think it is my reading speed which is affecting me here. It is that I try and read every response as I have developed this habit of getting the points out of each and every post.

my habit of reading the discussion entirely like the author, because my english is not well,i must understand what it mean,so i can post my reply.when i reply my response, i often use all i learn to post my reply, so it spend my half of hour to finish one post,it is very so ''quickly '' to finish it.i kmow that it is not easy to use english to read the discussion and to post my reply for me. so i adhere to do this thing.i believe that i can learn it well and improve my reading and posting my reply.

Hey, it is good for you as you're learning English and seem to be slow in reading posts. But for me it's different and quite frustrating too. Anyway, all the best and happy mylotting.

Hi, rajeshfgh. I have the same habit as you do. Before I respond to a discussion, I first read all the other responses, which takes a lot of time. So I can just respond to at most 10 discussions a day and earn less than others. These days, I manage to respond first. When I finished, I persuade myself not to read carefully the other responses, I just scan some of them and then shift to other discussions. Perhaps you can try to do the same as I do. Good luck and happy mylotting!

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I will try and do the same thing as I have realized that reading all the responses just doesn't do any good for me. I will also try to scan through the posts rather than reading the whole thing. I hope I am able to change my habit...

I think it might affect that your earnings increases slower and your postings is still below 500 but I think there is nothing wrong with reading all the discussions entirely, that way you can write the ideas as much as you want and you could get better rate with quality posting possibly. I read and type quick so I try to post as much as I can everyday! Good luck on mylot :-)

Yeah, it's very low. I have managed 500 in over a year, while I have seen members achieve the same here in a month. Of course it also depends on the activity level, but I consider myself to be very active here. Alas, only in reading and not posting.

I also read all responses to the post before responding and that is why i am also unable to post many responses.Earlier i used to respond to 20-25 discussions everyday but now i am more interested in reading the responses, that is why i post less in mylot.

Same problem here and I intend to break the habit but choosing discussion which have fewer responses so that even if I am tempted to read all the post I will still be saving time.

Try to strike a happy medium. If there are less than 10 posts, skim through them to get the gist of the reply. If there are more, just read a few responses, so you don't duplicate the post. You don't need to read everything, just skim over the main points. But you are right in reading responses before you pitch in to post. Obviously, a lot of people don't bother.

You are right, a lot of people don't bother and maybe I will be following in their footsteps too. Otherwise I am wasting my precious time for nothing in return. Quite a bad bargain, isn't it?

i always read the entire content of the post before i reply... but not all the responses as i won't have enough time to do that... i will be responding to very few discussions if i have to read each and every responses there especially if there are many of them... but i do read a few of the responses everytime before i reply... take care and have a nice day...

same with me I read the discussion and then I comment on what it is all about. In the past months I just answer and or comments on topics given. I was not able to enter my wn discussions.

I am in the same situation as you. I try to stick with discussion that have less than 10 replies so that I don't spend forever reading. I find it is easier to just read than post too. If I can respond with a quality response, I will do that too. I can't always come up with quality (long) response, but I still try.

I think I should also follow your style and prefer discussion having less responses s o that I don't end up wasting more of my time.

I just read the first few responses if there are too many responses, for example several pages. If there's only a few responses, then I tend to read them all before post my own response. I think communicating is the purpose for posting on Mylot, if you only read the starter's discussion while ignoring the responses from others, then you are communicating to the starter only, why not learn something from others?

That's how it should be and I follow the same thing. Its not just about earning here, as earnings also depend largely on the quality and length of your responses or comments, so one should read the content completely, this helps gaining an insight about the topic and gives us more ideas to write. With this, one can easily write 5-6 lines. Well, I've been here for about a month now, and we have comparative number of posts.

I agree friend, but at the end of the day it is the number of posts which count for your payments and people take only a month to achieve what I have achieved in over a year. But, I will try and overcome my habit and as the previous member has advised; to just reply to posts having fewer responses.

It depends on the topic content^_^. The topic with most interesting point is what I read the whole discussion, from the topic title down to the posts from various respondents and comments with in it! Yes, I read these not once but more than twice. Oftentimes my clock rings and remind me to shift to next activity 'coz I did no other thing than to read!@_@ Happy mylotting^_^

lol i do that too, but i am new here so i want to try not to do anything wrong. But some of them are so interesting i just read and forget to post a reply! lol I am trying to think of more interesting responses tho. Hopefully i get better.
26 Jun 09
I think you're doing the right thing! I usually read all the posts before I reply because otherwise, it's not really a discussion, is it, if its just people posting random stuff. If I'm not interested in the discussion then I don't bother to reply at all. But I guess it depends what you are on Mylot for - to have discussions or just to try and make money.

Well that's what the rules say to do, so your not doing anything wrong there, lol. Though I'm assuming you were being sarcastic when you started this discussion, am I right? I have to admit that I don't read the responses, but do read the discussion itself. Although I have read a few of the responses here on this discussion.

Actually you are doing the right job. There is nothing wrong in looking the responses prior to posting.dont worry because i think you are earning a lot more than just money.even i do the same thing cause that enables me to post something different than others(no repeated content). That tells us that we are different.
