I just had my laptop maybe it's three days now since i purchased it. I always fully charge it but im wondering why the battery died so fast, it has only 1hr and few minutes life, what's going on? How long it takes for charging the battery, as it says in manual it takes 4hrs. Anyway i got Dell 1545,im disappointed with it. Any help please. All responses are appreciated. Cheers.

It is common to see laptop that have battery that has batteries which is good only for a little more than an hour. The fact is that the notebook is really using lots of power and with that tiny battery, an hour or so may already sounds very good. Especially if you have a large monitor, fast CPU and fast graphics subsystem. Mine is a Netbook with only 10" monitor and nearly the lowest possible power CPU you can find and it only lasts around 3 hours.

I am using the MSI U100 and it is quite a good machine at that time considering the build quality, the hardware specifications, the price, etc. Now, there are so many brands have so many models on the market that I am getting quite confused as how they compare against one another. But I do know that there will be a new batch of netbooks coming out later this year which use newer chipset that can provide better video experiences. So, you may want to wait a little longer if you don't really need it immediately.

Well, battery has a certain life. How it works is like this...You already know there is a chemical reaction that generates charge. So a product is formed from two reactants and the process gives out energy. In rechargable batties, passing an opposite charge results in the breaking up of the products to give the original reactants thus restoring the battery to its original form. The problem is all of the product is not converted. Some product remains unchnged each cycle and though initially the amount is small, as usage increases, the number of product molecules remaining unchanged increases, thus batter capacity decreases. A battery should thus require replacement every two years. you can't help it. The battery will lose capacity as it is used. So if its not giving enough battery life, change it...its the only way

yep i think you have to do what other people suggested here... Just remove the battery when you plug it in a directly to a socket so the battery life won't get that much damaged... =)

the battery life depends on the type of battery you have...there are many battery types like 6-cell 12- cell...if it is 6-cell then it would come for around 1 or 2 hours only...if it is 12-cell then the battery life would be increased...but the size of the laptop will be considerbly increased with 12-cell battery... so befroe buying your next lappy try to the the complete config...if you want to save your battery then lower the brightness and also have a additional battery for a back...that would be useful in case of emergency...all the best.. happy mylotting

Usually when i turn on the laptop i use just the battery only till i need to connect to the plug when it needs recharge. I hear that if you use your laptop and charge it even though the batteries full , sooner or later will damage the battery. The battery will not be able to hold the charges

I guess alot depends on your usage.. IF u were to be using it for the whole day, and charging it everyday, the battery's lifespan is gonna be shorten.. Or maybe due to prolong or over-charging the battery, it might cause them to overheat as a result.. Thus, whenever u used it for a short while, it will go off.. Another possibility is that, the battery they gave it to u is already spoiled or had some problem.. SO it's best that u go back to them and ask for a new battery since it's only 3 days old..

Hi Rainmark, All of these make the battery run out faster: - having any usb sticks or a mouse using a usb plugged in - brightness of your computer - making it go on standby/showing screen-saver only after a really long time of not using the computer (eg. make show screen-saver after 2 minutes when not plugged in rather than 10) - watching video or using high power things eg. games So perhaps doing none of these things when unplugged would make it run out less quickly. Have a nice time!

Unfortunately, you may have bought one that has an old battery. A lot of times, when we buy computers at the store, we are buying refurbished ones and don't even know it.

Basically laptop battery runs out faster when it is a year old or more. But if it hasn't been a week yet, you should go back and have it replaced because it should not be that way. Yes, you may just leave in plugged all the time but it is better to have it replaced so you get what you have paid for.

Certain applications do make the power run out in a short time. But of course, to extend the life span of your battery, you must unplug the charger when its full. As much as possible, you should drain your battery before charging it once a month. Charging the battery all the time when there is still power will eventually shorten its power. But in your case, I think this is not normal. Try to verify from your supplier as to what is the standard operating time of your battery. It is better to complain early considering that you have just bought it a few days ago.

Some lap tops do not hold up very long on their battery alone, my last lap top only lasted about an hour and a half. My new one lasts about 3 hours, but I almost always just keep it plugged in so that it does not run out of life while I am in the middle of something. If you think that it should have a longer battery life you should look in to exchanging it for another one right away. Look at the manual and see how long it should stay charged. I had bought a lap top a month ago, and had to return it after 2 weeks because it was not getting any power to it form the power cord. It was very frustrating. I am hoping this new one I have that I exchanged it for holds out better than that one.

rainmark, check if you are on power savings.. if you do, then it could be that you are running too many program at the same time, therefore the life span will be reduced. From my experience, a fully charged laptop will last me for max of 3 hours, with MSN, webpages on... Happy MyLotting :)
