Do you support strangers who knock on your door for charity?

As some of you know, I'm involved with a 3-Day walk to raise money for Susan B Komen for the Cure. I need to raise at least $2,400 before the end of October. I'm about half way there. I have a pretty big fundraiser that I'm working on now. I'm selling raffle tickets for cash prizes. Today is really the only day I've had to walk around my neighborhood and try to sell the raffle tickets to all my neighbors, and I hope I do well. Some of them already know about it, but some will have no clue, and some of these people don't even know me.
Do you support strangers that show up on your doorstep? Usually I don't if it's not a cause I'm familiar with - there are so many scams out there. And if I don't know the person I'm pretty hesitant also. My in-laws said they NEVER do anything when people come to the door - sign petitions or donate money.

It depends on what it is for reiny. I have done this several times. I've bought books, I've signed petitions, bought raffle tickets, cookies, candy bars. What are you raffling off and when? How much are your tickets?

I'm raffling off $50/night for the entire month of July. Each ticket costs $5 and has a unique 3-digit number. If your ticket matches the Maryland Lottery Evening Pick 3 exactly for any night in July, you win $50. And if you number comes out more than once, you win each time. Last year I did fairly well with it, but this year people aren't buying the tickets as much.

I've got a few other things going on too - a $50 Home depot gift card and an I-pod Shuffle with a $25 I-tunes gift card. Those are things I got for free from the survey sites that I do and from Mypoints. I haven't been pushing those because I'm not doing the drawing for them until July 14th. The lottery ones I will stop selling on Tuesday.
It's funny that you say wouldn't win the lottery-type raffle, but you get 31 chances to win that one, not just one...
I've been doing more things each year, and have gotten some ideas for next year already too!

I wish you lots of luck with that. That is really good prizes for people that have luck with that kind of thing.
I never have that kind of luck to get get numbers in a row the way I pick them.
May I suggest that you get companies to donate items next year for your raffle. You will have to ask for many if not all of them this year. You won't have to pay for them and you can raffle off all that you get.
If that was what you were doing raffling off items then I was going to buy some tickets from you. Sorry. I will not do the lottery type thing, I have never won those. I don't even buy them in my state.

door to door is actually not the best way to raise money anymore. Like you said there are too many scams going on and people get sketched...who can blame them? I think your best bet when trying to do these things is to go to people you know and either enlist their help or go to local business's that at least recognize your face. I, truthfully, don't care for anyone knocking on my door looking to sell or asking me to donate or even just listen to their religious point of view. To me it is intrusive. Whenever my kids have done fundraisers...I've never let them just go door to door to strangers. I've helped them by taking the pamphlets into my work and we ask family and friends. We tell our kids not to talk to strangers and yet we expect them to go knocking on doors? or we do so ourselves..way to set an example. I wish you the best of luck....but sorry..I can't tell you that it is a good idea to knock on strangers doors.

I would only do this in my own neighborhood. I don't know everyone, but most people do recognize me from my walking around the neighborhood and also because I am in charge of the clubhouse. I would not just go to someplace I didn't know the people. I also had enlisted the help of other people in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I was not able to go out yesterday for health reasons.

I want to wish you a lot of luck, as you are braver than I am, or more confident, whatever. I used to collect for all kinds of charities and my neighbors said that was the only time they ever saw me. I pretty much do not open the door, but I also do not see many people, other than out of town newspapers, going door to door for anything. They want to sell subscriptions.

We do get a lot of petition signer people, but I don't usually sign those because when they're at the door I don't have the time to really read what they want me to sign. If they have literature I take that, but I won't sign without knowing what it is all about.
When the kids come by selling stuff for school, if it's something I want I'll buy it.

I can't even recall the last time I had someone come to my door asking for donation for a certain cause. I have had school kids from the neighborhood come around selling things or your typical door to door salesmen/women trying to sell magazines so they can go here or there and people trying to sell cement or concrete cleaners.
If someone I knew in the neighborhood come to my door trying to raise money for a project like yours I would donate but if a total stranger come to my door doing the same thing I would have to turn them away. I would give at a store like you were doing though even if it was a stranger.
Good luck with your goal again this year.

I know how you feel! Fortunately, a lot of people in the neighborhood see me walking every morning so they at least know I do live here with them. I'm also in our newsletter quite a bit about this too so that helps out. Some of the neighbors might help me so that would help too. But right now it looks like rain today so I might not even be able to walk around :-(

Of course! Though there may be few frauds, some may really be suffering. So, if I refuse, I may hurt the needy. So, I always support them. If he's really needy, then it's good. If not, then God will take care of him!

I will not suport stranger who knock on my door for charity, especially money donation, cause as you said there is so many scams out there. What I will do is I will take down the address and the contact number centre or person they're helping to raise fund, then make a visit to there myself. If they really need help then only I will donate money to them.

I do the same thing. I was counting on my credibility as their neighbor, it's not like I was going to be a total stranger. I wasn't able to go though because my back was bothering me too much.

First of all best of luck for u. 2nd i want to give u the information that inspire ur creativity with knowledge.
first of all remove the word of donation or donate from ur dictionary. Cuz we are human not a God. The body in which u r living is also denoted to u by God, u cant creat such body by ur own.
whatever u got from ur childhood without work is God gifted thru ur parents.
everybody can have only what amount of good work and thoughts he has done in present and previous birth. And punishments are also given by body due to sins.
so whatever u donate to others is added as debt to that person accounts and in next births or future they will have to help u or give u that thing back with interest. So the charity we do is a kind of Bussines cuz the power to give without and demand is under God. Those who dont have many basic things are due to their bad activities in last births. But those who have everything and if they do bad things in their present birth then they will have to take next birth in beggar or labours house.
So while doing charity or watching needed people we also understand that i have to be fair good and wise person.
see if the numbers of doctors are increasing then the number of diesese are also increasing like bird flu and swine flue. So God has many ways to punish for sins and dieses are the symbol for punishments.
actualy global warning or shortage of foods water etc are not because of large water, thats because of large bad and non veg population. If God can creat jupitar like planet beside earth then God could also make this earth more big. But the sins then would be out of control.
hope u can take useful conclusion after reading such secrets. Those who dont believe in God will automatically starts believe in God in next few years when natural calamities goes increasing so dont waste ur time for those and try to do good and only good work now to make ur future bright.
The best good and difficult work is always keep positive thoughts every one in every situation. Anger lust hate etc are bad thoughts avoid them.
