A few days ago I set a goal to reach 30 articles posted to helium and this morning I sucessfully posted number 30! I am hoping that crossing this threshold will gain me an additional writing star to boost my monthly upfront payments.
My writing score is a little above 91% at the moment so I will be holding out hope this upcoming week that I will have the pleasure of logging in and seeing that lovely little blue shape next to the others.
Now I just have to spend every available moment of the next two days rating articles to qualify for the bonus!

Yeah! Go canellita! I am happy for you. Have been at my dad's and haven't been able to write any. I am lucky to be able to get a few moments to post for an hour. Most of that time is responding to AC emails. I hope I can devote some time to Helium once the kids are in school. Congrats to you and I hope you make lots of money from them!

haha Mommaj got bad memory oh. Are you born in the wolf cave or black bear cave? Maybe if you think hard, you will remember oh.
That's good idea for an article "how to remember where I was born?". Another article on "how to get the worms out of my brain?", rewrite the article as "how to improve your memory by getting the lazy worms out of your brain?"
These three titles will keep you busy for half a day oh

The first article for ac should be what to do on a staycation in La. or if you're close enough MS. Can't remember which one of those states you live in, SORRY. I get forgetful - I'ld say it's old age but I don't remember when I was born.
I am glad you are finding titles to write to on Helium. That should help your writing score and upfront payments for sure. I can't wait for next month to find out if I will have time to write to Helium.
Good luck with payout.

Hey MommaJ how goes the vacation with the kids? I will have my vacation from the job in a few weeks but it will have to be a staycation because I won't be seeing a paycheck in the interim :-( With any luck I will come up with some great articles to sell to AC for upfront payments!

Congra Canellita, that's great! By the next update tomorrow, you should have another shiny blue star to bring home to show your mummy.
I think you will be happier to see the additional upfront payment on the first day of the next month. Hopefully you can reach payout, and collect the first payment from Helium.

Thanks Scheng1! I noticed my score got better after I added articles to empty titles so I will have to make it a practice to do so every time it dips below 90%. This way I should be able to keep the writing stars in tact, yes?

Hi Canellita, I have no comment on adding article to empty title and writing score. Right now, I have more than a hundred articles, so any difference in writing score is not noticeable.
I did read somewhere that writing to empty title can increase writing score, but some writers in forum said not, so it is very confusing.

I read it somewhere in the earning pages in my helium and I noticed that my score did change so maybe there is something to it but only with a certain volume of articles. Perhaps is is the ratio of empty titles or the ranking of the articles. I just look forward to having that third star to help my earnings.

hi
thanx for the concern-but that is how it is-Helium considers India as one of non-english speaking country-yeah she has written abt 5 articles for hubpages-but i feel following ur advice she shud use hubpages as launch pad to launch offensive against Helium.

What??? How could India not be an English speaking country? The ENGLISH people were there long enough...
That is unfortunate that she had that experience. Are you certain her location in India was the only reason? Many websites are taking issue with where their writers are located it seems. Has she tried hubpages?

Launching an offensive against helium will not cause them to change their policies. She should just continue to write and look for other avenues. Has she tried Daily Article?

Congratulations Canellita! Good work! You seem to be getting Helium under control for yourself don't you?
I have to admit that I don't know anything about the site but as I said earlier today on one of your discussions I am going to your profile and read the discussions you have posted about it so I have some idea what I am doing before I join! I've already read one of your discussions on the subject and it was interesting!
Keep up the good work...I hope that maybe one day you will be able to work Online and not have to get up and go out to work!

WOW Canelitta thank you so very much for all of this very valuable information! I really appreciate it! It would have taken me forever to figure all of this out so I am sure that my first month will probably be better than yours was with all of this! I think it is great when someone knows information and are willing to share it!

I think so too and that is why I am grateful to Scheng1 for all of her useful information and encouragement. Were it not for her advice I might not have continued with helium.
The day I saw that first penny accrue to my earnings was the day my attitude began to change, lol. I think helium is a great means for developing passive income.

Thanks for that wonderful wish for my not having to leave home in the future to work! I had been working on something a while back and then came hurricane Katrina and messed everything up! Fortunately teaching part-time tides me over enough to continue my creative endeavors.
You may find helium a bit frustrating at first; if you do sign up you will receive an email encouraging you to post your firat article within 7 days to get a $5 bonus. To start earning right away you will want to contribute three articles to competitive titles in order to earn your first WRITING star and you will want to rate as many articles a day as you have time for in order to earn your first RATING star.
One rating star means you get paid. One or more WRITING stars indicate how much you get paid. Every time you write an article to an "empty" title with no articles you qualify for an upfront payment of at least $1. (More writings stars equals more of an upfront payment.) This upfront payment will appear on the earnings page in the my helium section on the first of every month.
The reason you have to submit articles that are considered competitive is that helium has a peer rating system which it uses to calculate your writing score and if there are no other articles but yours in particular titles people can't vote yours to be better.
Only 10% have to be competitive though so the more empty titles you compose articles for, the more upfronts you get and the better (and more stable) your writing score.
One thing I just learned this past week is that helium has a fiscal month that ends on the 25th of the month. This is the cutoff date for posting new articles for upfront payments so post as much as you can as early as you can in the month. You can still try and qualify for the $3 rating bonus though if you rate 500 articles in a month.
If I had known all of these things when I started out it would have been a completely different experience for me! I have learned a lot from the helium writers here at myLot, particularly from Scheng1. She also encouraged me to stick with helium after my first month was so frustrating.

That's an amazing achievement. I only have one star and I am happy to have that because for awhile I was on the cusp. Now things seem a little more stable. I am working my way to 300 articles in the hopes of getting my second star. I think that I wrote for the site for a long time before I truly understood how things worked. Even now, I feel like I learn new things every day.
For example, last week, I just finished my first contest. Still, I guess by continuing to learn and improve, it makes the whole process more interesting. I only wish I had been more clued in when I first began. I didn't make any real money for the longest time. It would take me months and months to reach payout. I've improved that aspect, but I need to work on bringing up by writing score.
I had no clue either that you could get a $3 bonus for rating. I have 4 stars (not 5) of course. LOL

I got the 5 rating stars because I really pushed to make it to 500 rates in order to get the bonus. I haven't rated nearly as much this time around but the stars have remained intact (so far).
I can not believe you have so many articles and only 1 writing star! That seems incredible to me. Are you submitting a lot to creative writing titles?

I didn't know about all that when I started so I wrote to three empty titles and then figured out I needed to go back and do three more to competitive titles. Grrrrr...
Suddenly I had two writing stars though they would fluctuate the first month and that drove me nuts because I didn't understand why. It was disheartening but Scheng1 encouraged me to keep going so I did. I decided to focus on helium exclusively for a bit and now I am trying to get that third star.
I have heard there havee been some recent changes in the rules regarding rating and writing stars and payments but I don't quite follow all of that. Someone else could explain it much better than I could ever hope to do.

You did very good job. I had a look at helium.com before, and I thought it's a little difficult for me to write so long articles. However i did practice my English recently so I wish maybe in a couple of months I can join the website and write some articles.
I need more ways to make money online.Who knows.maybe one day i can make descent money on line to survive.
happy mylotting.

I don't think anyone has the time to post 30 articles in a day! The most I can usually manage is 3! Sometimes I can push it to 4 or 5 if I have the entire day free.

Congratulations that is a very good accomplishment. I have not written for Helium in a long time. I don't have hours to read and rate articles I don't really care about the content of. I also don't like their rating system because I am sure most people only read the first paragraph or first sentence and then vote.
I also don't like that you have to have $25.00 to cash out. It takes forever to get to that amount. I was really active on there for about 6 months then I realized that I could get paid faster putting articles on Associated Content.
I should go there and log in and check my balance there. Last time I looked I was at $17.00 and that is with 2 referals too. That is after 2 years and 6 months of it being really active.
But it sounds like you are dong really well on there with the reading stars so you are probably making more than I was. I had one writing star but I lost it when became in active. I should probably go and do some Leap Frogs and write a couple more articles. Maybe I will go take a look.
You have accomplished a lot there though you should be very proud.

I have just posted article number 102 (finally). My computer was out of commission for a while and my posting was significantly affected and I lost a writing and a rating star. I still managed to get to payout though so that was a lucky break. I would have had at least an additional $15 if I had kept those two stars.
Do you know about the rating bonus?

I write about any and everything I can. I try to have a diverse collection in order to earn the most. The ones that are paying best for me are craft and education. I wish I knew something about finance though because it is one of the better paying channels.
