If there is a person in a restaurant that gives me a service, I tip. I don't tip in fast food restaurants but if a person comes to my table to bring water or see if I need anything, I tip. If I go to a buffet it's self service but I'll leave a tip for the people who clear away and clean the tables. I haven't been out to anyplace like that for months, though--too expensive!

I forgot about adding in that I tip at buffets as well. It rewards the people who take care of those many empty plates.

6 dollar tip is pretty good I think. Like I said in my response I feel if you are at a sit down place than you should try to do at least 2 or 3 maybe 5 because those people do count on their tips. But be careful because there are times were a waiter or waitress will add a tip to the bill you have to look at it. Take care and happy mylotting to you.

I only tip when I have an actual waiter or waitress. If a person just brings me a pizza as I'm sitting at the table inside the restaurant, I don't tip. Of course if the pizza is delivered to my home, I certainly tip. My dad always told me if I couldn't afford to give a tip, then I shouldn't be eating in a restaurant. Wait staff work really hard, and it is a pretty thankless job I think.

Yes, topping at a restaurant wait... tipping for services industry is just like a MUST here especially at the restaurant, we are supposed to tip at least 10% of the bills, people usually do 20 %...I don'tliek it not because I don'tlike to tip is becaus e I like to tip how much according to the services and food in the restaurant, I don't like to tip when the services are awful, food is cold, place is not clean! But my husband told me we just need to do that... I could save 20 bucks tips for another lunch...

I leave a tip for the waitress in any place that i am waited on, it does not depend on if it is a fancy restaurant or not. Most waitresses earn below minimum wage, and they depend on their tips to live on.The only time i do not leave a good tip is when i feel that the service is really bad and the waitress is not doing her job.

Anywhere where someone comes to the table, takes my order, brings my food... I tip them. There are some buffets I will tip a dollar or two. The waitstaff doesn't make minimum wage, in order to keep the food prices down, so their only income is really their tip.

Here in the US, we have a different minimum wage for waitstaff than for everyone else. If they made the minimum wage for waitstaff the same - over $8/hour right now - no one would be able to afford to go out for dinner!

I always check the bill if there is any service charge included. If there is then I do not give a tip anymore. Unless I find the services very well and very nice. In most cases, when I am very much please with the service, I often left something on the table as a tip.

If I am sitting down at a table and I am being served then yes I will tip every time. It is a place where I order the foot at the counter and pick it up at the counter then no. If I order at a counter and they bring it to my table I may or may not if they just gave us the food and never came back again, if they were more attentive then I might give them something. At buffets I usually leave a dollar for their work collecting the dishes and stuff, if they are really good or we make a huge mess or someone spills something or something like that I will leave an extra dollar. At a buffet where they bring your drinks (which I hate, I would rather get my own), I will tip a couple of bucks maybe 3 if they they are really good.

I try to tip wherever I go, I think its a nice way of saying that you liked the service. Sometimes I'll even make a point to say "thank you" to the kitchen staff if they are visible. Even if its a dollar or two the extra cash above the bill is always a constant reminder that the business is doing a good job of serving the public and they will probably be prompted to step up their game.

i tip if someone waits on me. i figure they dont make much and deserve it. my aunt raised 3 boys that way by waitressing so i know how hard it is. if its fast food or buffet, i dont. but if its pizza delivery of course i do. hopefully everyone does.

I have to say that no, I do not tip every single person that waits on me. I am glad to hear your aunt was able to do something wonderful and bring up 3 kids on a waiting job, but I can only justify tipping someone if they have done a good job of waiting and serving me food.

I usually leave a tip when I eat out, but there has been a few times when I have decided not to leave a tip. Some time ago my husband, my mother-in-law and I had dinner at Moroccan restaurant. I was excited about going there, because I love to eat new kinds of food and I had never had food from Morocco before. Unfortunately the place did not live up to my expectations at all. The waiter was unfriendly and impolite right from the start, the food was a disappointment (not very good) and the worst part was that the waiter tried to scam us. We discovered what was going on, and of course we refused to pay $20 more than we were supposed to, and then he became even more obnoxious. He definately didn't deserve a tip, and we left without tipping. The same thing has happened to me a few other times, but in most cases I leave a tip.

Hi, UK_Shree.
In Malaysia, we do not need to give tips. Because the bill is already included the service charge. Many foreigners travel to my country like to pay tips but this is really unnecessary. As i said, the bill is already included the service charge, then if you give the tips again, then that would be double charge!! Normally this happen in the hotel...well..if you want to give, that's ok...but the person will never tell you about this.
Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

I expect good service. I go to places that have good service. Most of the time I do tip. But there have been times I have not. I remember once when i was the road traveling and didn't have much money. My girlfriend and I stopped at a truck stop for breakfast and got the worst service to date. My friend took a napkin, wrote: Sorry, I had no change, and wrapped it around a penny. That says it as far as I am concerned.

I try to give at least a dollar tip. But when a Pizza place charges a delivery fee than I do not give a tip. The reason for this is because that money is going to the driver. I know that might sound wrong but that is how I work. If I have a lot of money I will give 2 or 3 dollars but it all depends on what I have.
For a sit down resturant I always leave a tip and I try to leave at least 5 dollars if I can afford to. They say you should tip at least 10% but sometimes a waiter or waitress will add their tip on the bill so be careful about that.

When on the odd time we go to a nice restuarant we tip a few pounds, but never at mc donalds or fast food places we don't as it is thrown at you so quick.I like a bit of service before I tip, like I say not very often these days but we can live with that.As there are so many people a lot worse of than us,so we don't complain,it would not be right.

Most of the time I go to a restaurant to eat the person that is with me leaves the tip. I'm like everyone else, it depends on the service and how much I can afford to give at the time.

What people must realize, serving people depend on tips as part on their salery. Most resturants pay their servers very little. Tips are a huge part of the take home pay. My thought is if the service is good so should the tip. On th eother hand if the service is horrible , the tip should be as well. These situation are true in the usa.
